http://www.today.com/news/witness-texas-plant-blast-lifted-my-truck-ground-1C9503042 The father said the kid's hearing is back. Lifted the truck off the ground. Also, apparently there were a dozen or so people standing outside their vehicles videoing that fire as well, but the father said they were nowhere to be seen after the explosion. Find it kinda funny his last name is "Hurtt."
Re: Texas Fertlizer Plant Explosion Does "while growing up" cover college? Because, we used to put HTH and Pine Sol into screw top plastic bottles and throw them in the fountains all the time. This keeps coming up. I can't believe that you people have never either 1) heard of towns that are named after settlers, founders, mayors, etc. last names; and/or 2) people with the last name West. Like Thomas West, the guy this town was named for (or Adam West or Matthew West or Mae West or Kanye West or . . .)
Re: 4/12/2013 WDT I have a Master's Degree in Counter-Terrorism. In theory, I could be one of those talking heads churning out regurgitated spin on the news for people to get panic attacks over, since I'm the "expert" and all. However, I haven't written any pseudoscientific books about "inside the mind of a Terrorist", and since I'm not old and haggard-looking, I lack the required gravitas. That being said, when we had to design a terrorist scenario in class for our students to attempt to respond to and contain, the first idea that came into my head was considered "uncounterable". Re: Texas Fertlizer Plant Explosion Chlorine. I always preferred Drano and aluminum foil, but to each his own.
Re: Texas Fertlizer Plant Explosion Sorry, I grew up with a swimming pool. It's granulated chlorine - HTH is now the label on a number of pool chemicals, but I think it originally stood for High Test Hypochlorite. (calcium hypochlorite, I think?) If the custodial closet on your dorm hall just happens to be left unlocked, and you happen to borrow a commercial-sized bottle of Pine Sol. And, you happen to return from Thanksgiving break with a small bucket of HTH. And you happen to pour a little Pine Sol into a 16 oz Coke bottle, spoon in some HTH and twist the cap back on . . . it may or may not go POW! a minute later. Edit: Ahh, Danger Boy beat me to it.
Re: Texas Fertlizer Plant Explosion It's actually a great little town. It's worth a trip just to get a kolache from the Czech Stop. My family's been going to Westfest for years. Really sad week.
HTH also spontaneously combusts when exposed to reactive skin decontamination lotion (RSDL), the stuff you use when cleaning up after a CBRN attack. The more you know...
What kind of penalties -- criminal or otherwise -- do you think they'd be facing? I mean, I imagine this would be similar to the BP oil spill, no?
