Waaaay too much ball washing of the Vikings; the hype machine is at full throttle right now. They've gone from "team on the rise" to "trendy playoff pick", and now to "Superbowl sleeper" (according to K.C. Joyner). So much hinges on Bridgewater making a leap - which isn't an impossible thing to happen - and all of the other problems being fixed (O-line, linebackers, receiving corp, secondary) that it's verging on hyperbole; for all the things that will have to go right to make the Vikings a Superbowl contender would make pretty much any team in the league a Superbowl contender. Personally I think a 9-7 season is a reasonable, achievable goal: It assumes that Bridgewater makes steady improvement, the O-line settles in, Zimmer figures out the linebacker issues, and there are no killer injuries.
Aldon Smith was released today. When do we start calling them the LOLyniners? Seriously though, Aldon Smith needs help. I hope he decides he wants to get it.
I do not mind eating crow, but seriously am I going to have to start eating before preseason? When does the NBA tip off?
I guess this is one way to rank the teams: http://bleacherreport.com/articles/...om&utm_medium=referral&utm_campaign=editorial
Geno Smith got sucker punched in the locker room. His jaw is broken in 2 places and they say he'll be out 6-10 weeks. Cam Newton was picked off by the cornerback, there was smack talk and then a scuffle. Football is back, the good, the bad and the ugly.
Can you imagine the stupidity of the guy who did that? From what I know he was a practice squad guy. So you work all your life to get to a place where like a hundredth of a percent of all football players manage to get, and you're on the fringe - a step away from a career playing football. I can understand tempers flaring, getting into a shoving/shouting match, whatever. But this genius thinks he should haul off and punch the starting QB in the face. Hope you've got a fallback career, buddy.
I wonder what odds you could've gotten for Jay Cutler vs. the field for the first QB who "Got sucker punched in the locker room. His jaw is broken."
Jets just got better today. I'm not surprised that Geno Smith was not able to run away from that hit.
I'd love to right a very Parker-esqe post here in regards to the "Free Tom Brady" movement, but this shit is getting to another level. This article is fucking great. " As Brady-NFL settlement talks begin, unsettling picture continues to emerge on league's conduct. Basically every piece of news you've heard/read about 11-of-12 footballs being under-inflated, everything about what Tom said in his appeal or even the whole cellphone destruction thing...it's exactly that, bullshit. This shit is going to go somewhere very fucking interesting.
Here's what gets me about the Geno Smith thing, so IK comes to him asking he make an appearance for this charity, $600 for the flight and limo paid. Now lets just stop right there for a second, I'd think Smith would then say something along the lines of, "Nah man I'll pay my way, it's for charity." It's six hundred fucking bucks. To me that is the bigger I'M A FUCKING DOUCHEBAG issue than anything else. I'm not saying he deserved to get popped but I'm also not saying he didn't if my read is right based on what's been said so far. I'm not sure where I am with the whole Brady thing. I do think someone is going to take the fall. Goodell? The team and/or staff? Brady? Belichick? I hope it's Goodell. There's been a lot of shit that's gone down yet somehow he's remained not only the Commissioner but relatively unscathed. He needs to go either way. Let Trump run the show!
This sucker punch story gets better. Apparently when Smith jammed his finger in this guy's face, he apparently added, "Well you're not going to do anything about it." Are you fucking serious? LOOK AT THE SIZE OF THE ARMS ON THIS MOTHERFUCKER! Geno Smith is straight retarded. End of story. I don't give a fuck who you are. You don't stick your finger in the face of a guy that big and basically tell him he's a bitch.
Dude is lucky he only got fired. If this had happened between two regular people the puncher would have been arrested.
They're both retarded. There's no scenario where decking the starting QB in the face is not going to result in terrible things for you. Geno should have avoided it out of self-preservation, but IK had to know he was going to get crucified for it.
If that story is true Geno deserved it. IK is an idiot for giving into that impulse, but I completely understand why he did it.
Preseason or not, I'm leaving the office early to watch the game. Now I'm like a real football fan and actually have the NFL Network and the Sunday Ticket I am so fucking ready.
