WOW. Been waiting for that one. Dude has been cheating death for a long time. Billboard is not confirming, but TMZ says he died on the tour bus: http://www.tmz.com/2015/12/03/scott-weiland-dead/ CORE is a sick album. One of the best debuts ever.
And it's their BEST album period. Everyone always told me Purple was their best, NO WAY DUDE. Core the perfect 90's grunge sound, dark, moody and heavy.
Core is one of the best albums ever. Cobain, Staley, and now Weiland. At least Vedder and Cornell got their shit together.
Did you know who the original singer of Velvet Revolver actually was before Weiland? Travis Meeks. Another incredible 90's talent who shit it away for drugs.
I don't know why the press shitted on them so much at the time for being knock offs. Weiland had much better vocal range than Cobain ever had and style that doesn't get as tired as Vedder's voice. Staley had a one of a kind voice but less range that was masked by their great use of harmonies. Cornell is the best of the lot.
I love STP. Saw them live at Lehigh University with Cheap Trick opening. It was the 'Tiny Music' tour. Core is a fantastic debut, but I think Tiny Music might be my favorite. Frankly, I'm surprised he lived this long. It's a shame, the guy had a good voice and wrote some great songs and had the opportunity to play with amazing folks.
I think its because they broke out 3-4 years later than the big 4 grunge bands and there were a bunch of little "me-too" pop up bands that were trying to ride the grunge wave. STP got lumped into it until people realized that they really stood out on their own.
Yep. DOTN is one of my favorites. Meeks will punch his own ticket soon too. Shame because he truly is a musical genius. Most people have talent, but Meeks is a Mozart type mind. Anyone looking for something different should give the Red and Green albums a listen. Another article about Weiland: http://www.blabbermouth.net/news/ex-stone-temple-pilots-singer-scott-weiland-found-dead/ He did an interview a couple days ago where he was completely gacked out. Audio on the page at the bottom.
Cornell has a once-in-a-generation voice, but when it comes to Soundgarden there is no fun to be had while performing--- stiff as a board, manniquins with guitars. A shame, Cornell like Vedder used to be a life-risking nutbag on stage. At Lallapalooza in '93 I watched Bedder climb the stage side light tower, monkey-bar the entire rack 10 stories above the audience, climb down the tower on the opposite side and stage-dive into the mosh pit during the solo for Alive. These guys used to do that shit all time, what an amazing decade to be a concert-goer like myself.
I dont know about 300 feet but Ive seen footage, in the big doc on the band, of him dangling a good 100+ feet over the stage at those events. Nuts he never fell and hurt himself bad.
