When it comes to welding tube, mill scale is my bane. I always end up looking like Al Jolson in The Jazz Singer when I work with it, it gets EVERYTHING filthy.
Remember those 2 Ryobi cordless grinders I bought that everyone was wondering "wtf would you need 2 cordless grinders for"? They are AWESOME for cleaning weld sites with a flap disc and small grinding wheel. Princess Auto just had a huge sale on flap discs, 10 for $18, so I picked up 30 flap discs. They're pretty solid quality from what I've seen so far. Between those, a bunch of 8" DeWalt grinding wheels on sale at Canadian Tire, and half-off a DeWalt die grinder on Amazon that shows up tomorrow, there have been some serious savings on the metal prep front this past week. Now I just have to figure out whether I'm going to step up to a better, multi-process hobby machine, or just get a CO2 setup for my current POS welder.
Yeah... but we're talking $150 vs $2k... I'll probably do the $150 for the short term, and then work on the better solution sometime next year.
