Being prudent with your actions while in country > being careless and packing heat. Simple.

EDIT: Why hasn't Dcc001 been raped yet during her extensive travels? It must be a fucking miracle.

I love how I haven't once mentioned anything about carrying a gun in this thread, yet everyone assumes that I'm insisting you need to pack heat in a third world country (and that packing heat automatically makes you careless).

My point is that if you're going to be in a dangerous area, it is wise to not move about alone and to have a means of protection. A means of protection could be anything from a fast pair of legs to a fucking black belt.

Or you could just stay the fuck out of dangerous places.

Man, this thread just took a dark turn.

Can't we all just be friends?

How about from now on, we just keep our thoughts about DCC in compromising sexual positions to our own nighttime activities? And we keep those activities to ourselves?

This happened to my sister while she was at work today. I thought this was something that happened in real cities, Not crappy Green Bay malls. Still pretty neat.

Doesn't matter. As long as those cans in his avatar keep bouncing, I couldn't care less about the posts' actual content.

I can. Why do people find that chick attractive? Nice body aside (and the fact she dated murderous piece-of-shit mobster Chris Paciello) She has the face of a male bodybuilder. Maybe that's just me.

Ugh. Back to the grind. 5 more days of slave labour till a week off...

This is purely speculation, but just maybe the world is not the big, bad, dangerous place you think it is? Maybe people are actually good and all that's required to be safe is some common sense and a non-threatening appearance? I can't believe I'm about to agree with ghettoastronaut, but he's right...getting into a sticky situation as a lone westerner and then pulling a gun is about the dumbest thing you could possibly do. Perhaps I'm not complacent - perhaps you're paranoid.

I really like the puppy theme we were having. More puppies!

Whoops. I spent a LOT of money at a strip club last night. Thank God for credit cards & not appearing on my balance until NEXT month's statement. I'd actually be a little embarrassed if anyone else I know had witnessed it. Fortunately I ignored my phone, so my ride left after the 5th hour or so.

Well, 8 hours till I get on my flight back to the good ol' US of A.

If you like Gris' drawings, you may like this webcomic.

I'll have something to say about this 3rd world thing once I finish packing and read the thread.

Bringing a weapon with you, no matter where you are, is only going to bring you more trouble than you'll save yourself from. Anything weapon that you have on your person can be used against you; let me tell you, if you're getting robbed or attacked, they're more scared and have less too lose than you do - therefore, they're willing to do whatever it takes.

How many people here take some sort of personal defense training? I'm willing to bet only a few. How many people here can defend themselves effectively without having to resort to weapons like knives or guns? Even less.

Using common sense is the best defense you'll have - don't put yourself in situations that could lead to needing self-defense and you'll be doing pretty damn well.

A weapon can be used against you if a) they know you have it, and b) it is taken from you. Preventing a) or b) from being fulfilled means that the weapon won't be physically used against you (legal stuff's a different matter, depending on which country's laws apply).

This part's correct. When you can choose to not get into shitty situations, then you're doing pretty well, security-wise.

This Christmas I'm hoping Santa'll get me the ability to see the future.

    Or maybe a puppy.

    How about these puppies?

    Unrelated:
Somebody gave me a $50 gift card to Cabela's. I thought I would blow it on things I wouldn't normally justify buying for myself. So, I bought a Wii game (Legendary Adventures hunting game - since virtual hunting is about all I get to do these days . . .) and I was reading the customer reviews. I don't know if this is real or not, but it's pretty awesome:

Dang! How many people get to throw a bachelor party for their dad?!

How was the wedding, Bubba? Awesome! When we walked out of the trailer, we got to play a huntin' video game.
