That is so awesome it's literally scary. The end of privacy. How far away is that camera from Half Dome in the image? It's 5000 ft tall and you can zoom in that close?

    Actually, found the site it came from: <a class="postlink" href="http://yosemite-17-gigapixels.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://yosemite-17-gigapixels.com/</a>

    It's not one pic.

    Still cool as hell, though.

Man, having a girlfriend really gets in the way of posting retarded drunkenness in the drunk threads, I feel like I've been missing out. I won't be seeing her tonight though and Phish is doing a webcast of the first night of their NYE run, so even though I have to work tomorrow, I think I am going to get drunk and watch that.

Anyone know anything about good Champagne? The Girlfriend and I decided that we are doing NYE at home, just the two of us. Eat Chinese take out, watch movies and get drunk. I figured I would buy a couple bottles of champagne and it would be nice to have something a little better than that shit Andre that we've always had on past NYE's. Of course I'll probably just get a bottle of single malt for myself, but we'll still get some champagne so I want to get something decent at least.

Have a look through the recommended bottles in these articles

    <a class="postlink" href="http://www.slate.com/id/2279394/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.slate.com/id/2279394/</a>

    <a class="postlink" href="http://www.slate.com/id/2180844/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.slate.com/id/2180844/</a>

    <a class="postlink" href="http://www.slate.com/id/2207426/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.slate.com/id/2207426/</a>

Also, head on over to <a class="postlink" href="http://www.winelibrarytv.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.winelibrarytv.com</a> and search for champagne or sparkling wine.

I recently had the Louis Roederer Premier Brut (recommended in the second article) and although the champagne lovers around really enjoyed it, I suppose champagne isn't quite my thing - I would have preferred spending the same amount of cash on a nice bottle of red instead. But then again, my opinion of white wine is that one should only drink it when the red wine is all gone.

I'm not a big fan of champagne... I enjoy it by the glass every now and then, but have never really sat down and drank a bottle of it (like I do with wine... don't judge me.)

What I usually do for things like anniversaries and New Year's Eve and stuff is purchase by the budget... I'll get a bottle that's a medium price, like $60 or so, and then get one or two cheap bottles.

My thinking is that the first bottle is the one you'll really taste anyway, so the 2nd and 3rd bottles can be somewhat shittier and you'll never notice.

Same goes for most of my drinking, actually... beer, wine, etc.

For the most part you get what you pay for until it goes over $50-60. If you don't drink it regularly, you probably won't taste the difference between Pierre-Jouet ($40) or Piper ($30) and Dom ($120). Also, Andre is really sweet like a Spumante (Brut means the wine is sweeter, but Spumante is like fruit juice); most champagnes are carbonated white wines, earthy, lemon tastes, not fruit juice. Asti makes a killer Spumante, not too sweet. If you have a Total Wine around you, just hang out in the sparkling wine aisle. They've got about 100 different brands.

I'd honestly recommend a good Spanish Cava. They're $8-15 and just as enjoyable. I can't remember the goddamn brand I usually get, but it's $7.99.

NPR had a great champagne cocktail article worth a read:
    http://www.npr.org/2010/12/30/132399963/sparkling-ways-to-celebrate-the-holidays?sc=fb&cc=fp

I've posted the merits of the French 75 before, and I can't recommend it enough. Drink is tits.

I leave 50-degree Denver for Boston, which greets me with a blizzard. Just as Boston warms up into the 40s, I'm heading back home to Denver, which is currently getting six inches of snow and expects a low tomorrow night of around 0 degrees. Add in the wind chill, and my New Year's Eve is forecast to be about -20. Touche, winter. Touche.

Looks like I better bring a flask of whisky for my four-block walk to the bar tomorrow night. If this meager bit of snow in Denver strands me at my parents' house for New Year's, I'm going to be beyond pissed. I can't stand another day surrounded by douchey New England sports fans.

The guy that sits in the cubicle next to me in my office just informed me that Jenna Haze is going to be at one of the strip clubs here in town tonight. I'm a bit skeptical since he heard it through a friend of a friend, but still...Jenna Haze.

Speaking of Champagne, the turkey I basted in a cheap bottle of the stuff turned out fantastic. The pan drippings resulted in one of the best gravies I have ever made.

I'm a fucking klutz. I was walking out the front door, a thing I do every single day, and somehow I managed to bash my fucking knee on the door frame. Then I had to drive my car, which has a manual transmission, on a 3 hour round trip. Fuck the clutch in my car, now my knee hurts like a bitch and the only thing that will cure it is some alcohol. Thankfully I'm home for the night so I'm safe to medicate.

I stuck in an old rap cd that I had made when I was in high school, so expect lots of random youtube videos from me as the day wears on.

    An oldie but a goodie:

You've got to love the misinterpretation of lyrics in this video. Makes me laugh.

The only thing that can come out of this combo is you waking up tomorrow morning from a blacked out haze with pissed pants, a pee soaked phone and the RROD. And your friends will probably have shaved a giant cock and balls into your head.

Not like I know that from personal experience. Totally has never happened to me. Nope.

Well, due to the fact that I have some Christmas money burning a hole in my pocket combined with me being the absolute worst about impulse buys...I shall be picking up an iPad on the way home from work.

    Is it 5 yet?
