    Re:Tanqueray
I walked into my local liquor store today and there were five guys in suits set up around a Tanqueray tasting table. I go to pay for my bottle of Jonnie Walker Green and ask the cashier what's going on? He says the International Ambassador for Tanquaray is here. I think he's joking, then I hear the guys British accent and am slightly convinced. When I got home I googled him and sure enough I see a picture of the guy. I feel special.

I didn't really like gin, but I drank about 400-500 martinis just to be sure.

Brillitant, thank you. The one I had was the Vergina Premium, it was delicious, not all that dry but not too sweet either. I don't know my beers all that well, but all you can really get in this part of Greece is Mythos, Alpha Beer and God-forbid - Amstell. That Vergina stuff was such a nice change, but still very different to the lagers I'd had back home, even most of the imported ones.

Picked this baby up at the duty-free shop on a cruise for 60$ less than it is at home. I've never tried it, but have tried all the other colors of JW and I can't wait to open it.

I had a few bottles of that awhile ago and didn't think much of it. Kinda dry and just cheap tasting. It's obviously much more expensive when it's imported over here too...

Picked up a case of Alexander Keith's taster pack because it came with a free ceramic stein.. used to like Keith's, but now I just find it really poor quality. Their "Premium White" wannabe-witbier tastes like regular keiths, which is fine - if you want Keith's, but if you are hoping for a witbier, you'll be disappointed. Also I noticed it seems watered down now that production for Western Canada has been moved to BC. So much for "pride of Nova Scotia"

That stein seems pretty money, but I agree that Keith's beer is disappointing. I used to like it well enough to order it at a bar (at most bars it's one of the better offerings on tap). But I went several months without having it, and in comparison with some of the really good beers I'd been having, going back to it really does highlight how watered-down it is. Tastes like they use rice instead of grain while brewing.

In good beer news, if any of you are in the market for it (i.e. Ontario) try and find Duggan's 9 IPA. Seriously good.

According to Keith's website, the stein retails for $13 or so, so it was worth the money.

I used to really enjoy Keiths as well, but everything seemed to go down hill as soon as they started making Keith's White. I LOVE a good witbier/wheat ale, but a half assed one shouldn't exist at any cost (even Rickard's isn't bad for it being domestic).

When I do go to the local pubs now days, if I really want a beer and they don't have local beer (or Big Rock) on tap/bottle, I'll get a Rickards White, or Keiths if I want something lighter - but it's just not the same as when Keiths was only brewed in Halifax. The pubs that serve beer by Half Pints Brewing Co (a brewery from Winnipeg) gets my money all the time, their Lil Scrapper India Pale Ale (it's available in a few bars in Ontario) is one of my favourite IPAs, nothing like Keith's, it makes Keith's taste like a Molson Canadian 67 in comparison.

It's been suggested that I should explain why I chose the bottles I did. So here goes:

    Vodka: Russian Standard
Just as smooth as any name-brand top shelf bottle, for half the price.

    Scotch: Cutty Sark
I tried this on the recommendation of Haruki Murakami, one of my favorite authors (by "recommendation " I mean the protagonist in The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle drinks it). I instantly liked it because the aftertaste left a hint of ginger in my mouth. Turns out my palate sucks beyond all belief because I don't think there's any ginger in it at all. Regardless, it's remained one of my favorites. The only problem is very few places in Michigan carry it so I usually end up drinking Johnny Walker Black.

    Gin: Hendricks or Bombay Sapphire
Hendricks is for drinking straight, Sapphire is for mixing.

    Irish Whiskey: Jameson
This is the whiskey that got me into whiskey, meaning this is the first whiskey I drank neat.

Beer: Guinness or any good Pale Ale
I'm not a big beer guy so I can't have any sort of intelligent conversation on the topic short of: I like stouts and pale ales.

    Bourbon: Maker's Mark
Clean taste with a small bite on the back end. The way bourbon should be.

    Tequila: Tres Generaciones Anejo
Honestly I don't even like tequila, but this is what Bill drinks near the end of Kill Bill, Vol 2 so I tried it solely based on that. It's not bad. I like that it's been aged in a bourbon barrel which gives it that smokey oak flavor I love so much in whiskey.

I picked up this local gem from the Liquor store. Great Double IPA, and sure better than Keith's any day of the week.

I go to school in Nova Scotia. Last September they were offering 15 packs of Keiths cans for I think $21 (maybe 19) and a free stein. They had the red, green, and whites at the time. Between me and my roommates I think we got about 20 that month, all proudly displayed now on the mantle.

But I do understand everyone's ohhh its not so good comments. But as a student out there its very quality to grab a 24 of it instead of like Moosehead. Beer selection out there is awful.

I have never seen that grey looking one in your picture? looks pretty classy though

For the tequila drinkers: Try Cavalino. In Texas, it runs about $20USD a liter.

    <a class="postlink" href="http://everydaydrinkers.com/2007/12/30/cavalino-tequila-smooth-100-de-agave-heaven/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://everydaydrinkers.com/2007/12/30/ ... ve-heaven/</a>

Edit: If you would like to see how not to design a website, take a look at the one for the American distributor: <a class="postlink" href="http://www.cavalino.us/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.cavalino.us/</a>

I love when the seasons change and new beer is awaiting on store shelves.

Sam Adam's Octoberfest is actually pretty damn good. I get a lot of flak for drinking Sam Adam's normally, but to hell with the naysayers, they don't know a good brew if it hit them.

Picked up some La Fin Du Monde today...I think I'm in good hands.

Bulleit Bourbon. A friend bought a bottle over the weekend, and I had to pick up another for myself this evening. Same Price tag as maker's but with more of a rye taste which I'm liking. If you see it, try it. I'd always liked maker's but I'm not looking back.

Dude, I've been drinking this stuff for years. It's not as smooth as Woodford or Hayden's, but that's actually what I like so much about it. It's more robust and oak-y than other bourbons, and it's a decent price. Good shit.

I'm not big into the rye taste (and prefer Maker's for that reason), but here Bulleit is five bucks cheaper than Maker's so it's a good pickup.

I'm a bourbon lover and I just saw Bulleit in the liquor store near me for the first time. How does it compare to Knob Creek (which a lot of people think tends to be a little harsh)?

I'm actually not a huge bourbon guy, although that seems to be changing quickly. I always kept Maker's around because I liked it and it was good for a change of pace. I've only had Knob Creek once or twice, and don't remember it well enough to compare the two. I can say that I think Bulleit is pretty smooth, but less-so than Maker's. It's also less sweet and has a bit more complex flavor (for lack of a clear description). I'd guess it's less harsh than Knob Creek.

If you buy it and don't like it, you can always send me the bottle.
