I watch that game and have no dog in this fight. I certainly wouldn't call it great basketball. The first half featured a Bulls team that looked clumsy and confused on offense, and unable to show its typical level of defensive intensity. While Rose was phenomenal in the second half, a lot of that related to poor defense by the Knicks (looking at you, Jeremy Lin. You're inability to stay in front of Rose led to foul trouble, which then made you play scared and exacerbated your inability to stay in front of him. And the lack of help defense from Baron Davis didn't help. There were an awful lot of replays showing Rose blowing by Lin and Davis). And Rose was whining, as most NBA stars do when their shots don't fall. Especially once they get used to receiving "big name" whistles. The calls were no worse for him than any typical game. Let's take some players who, like Rose, are their teams stars, are perimeter players with good driving abilities, and who attempt a lot of free throws. Compared to LBJ and Durant, yeah, Rose doesn't get a lot of calls. But no one does: along with James Harden, Rodney Stuckey, and Corey Magette (wtf?), those two are among league elite in terms of getting to the line Rose DOES performs almost identically to the next class of players who meet those criteria: Wade, Bryant, Wall, and Melo. For example, Rose whines about getting fewer whistles than other players, yet attempts more FT per minute than Kobe Bryant and almost the same amount as John Wall (who, along with Rose, are among league leaders). He is behind both Wade and Melo in that measure, admittedly. However, it's probably safe to say you're rarely getting fouled on 3-pointers. So looking at free throw attempts per 2-point field goal attempt, Rose ranks ahead of KB24 and Wade, who are known for getting extra superstar whistles, and almost equal to Wall. Every star in the history of the NBA has thought they deserved more free throws than they get. Rose is no exception. Does anyone know a place where you can get stats by quarter? I.e. how many turnovers in the first half of a game, etc.
How did you know of whom I was speaking when I said a "real team"? I watched about 30 seconds of that game and all I saw was Rose launch himself into Lin and get the call, which is what the NBA was supposed to have outlawed this season. Hence D'Antoni's tech and subsequent missed FT by Rose. I wish the Heat would play LeBron on Rose for the whole game so we can see him shoot 4 for 37 from the field.
My views are biased given I was at the game with all the cheers and jeers. Also Gator, I just know where your loyalties lie. Not that they are a real team. Bulls still have a better record.
FYI, they actually pointed out in the telecast that the United Center shows different replays that the TV station, and that some of them were cut to make calls look slanted. For example, there was a charge on Kyle Korver that looked bad...because the United Center shows a waist-up replay, hiding the fact that his foot was clearly in the circle.
I wasn't looking at the replay. I was looking at the play itself. More fouls should have been called on Rose in the first half. I don't like how Rose goes in sometimes looking for fouls, because its obvious with the way he holds the ball. He over cradles it, and the refs know not to call anything unless he gets knocked out. Also, Rose is the last player in the league to sit there and want superstar calls. He is the most humble and down to earth player. He wants fairness and wins. Anything can happen in the playoffs. Like Richard Hamilton playing healthy. Oh and what JWags said.
I can't find it on Wikipedia so maybe you can help me out. How many teams have went on to win a NBA championship after they lost in their conference finals? You got to be IN it to WIN it. Yeah...and Richard Hamilton is that missing piece that's gonna push you over the edge to beating the Heat. Let's hope Asik stays healthy too!
Hey, he was playing well against the Heat until Pat Riley put a bounty on him in the game. I knew you Heat did something shady. I'm calling Stern. You heard it here first folks.
Hey, if Hamilton doesn't make it back, maybe you can bring in Brandon Marshall. Sure, he's nuttier than squirrel shit but I hear he has a decent midrange jumper. Just let him dribble the ball up the court, cuz he's gonna drop about half the passes you send his way.
From the local Heat beat writer's Twitter: A groin issue serious enough to require an MRI could sideline Derrick Rose from tonight's game against the Heat in Chicago. Shit. That will just give them more excuses when the Heat kick their ass. I am going to defer to our local expert on all things groin. Parker - What's the scoop on DRose's crotch?
Gator...I have to give it to you, that was a funny joke. Hilarious. Anyway, I can't believe they're going for Pau. He'd just look weird in a Bull uniform. I'd like him, but I like ALL of our pieces except for JL3 and don't want to trade them. Boozer just started looking like the Boozer of old. We just need to Frankenstein Richard Hamilton's dead body and we'll be fine.
Shit. Bulls sign Mike James so it looks like Rose and Watson are out. It's now a trap game for the Heat.
I can't believe they think LA is interested in Boozer. "Hey, you know that PF you have? We'd like to take him...and give you a worse, more expensive version of him." Also, holy blockbuster trade, Batman! Bogut and SJax to Golden State for Monta Ellis, Ekpe Udoh, and Kwame Brown. Not sure I understand this from Milkwaukee's perspective. I don't see Ellis and Brandon Jennings working together. They fit even less well than Ellis and Curry. And Ellis+ Ekpe Udoh doesn't seem like a winning core. So...is Milwaukee blowing up the franchise?
In a word, yes. This team in its current state is not working so they felt the need to rebuild. And as much as Milwaukee fans love him, Jennings is gonna leave for a bigger market once his deal is done, so thats that. Now watch Bogut get healthy and become the player everyone thought he would.
Per Stephen A Smith/Adam Schefter: (just seconded by Yahoo Sports's Adrian Wojokzryzecski) D'Antoni will resign this afternoon.
As good as the Ellis/Jennings match being worse than Ellis/Curry, that's an even better point. Jennings has hinted all along he wants to be in his hometown of LA. Was Bogut really underachieving? I don't know that much about the Bucks, other than they beat the Heat a lot for a mid level team.
