I’m so confused. How does someone working in preschool administration afford a $90k car? Are you laundering money on the side or something? Real question: I’m looking for a new car, gently used, for under 20k out the door. Ideally a small crossover SUV. Any suggestions or things to avoid?
As to your real question, just saw this sorry, check out the GMC Acadia. My wife got one new for a bit over that, so I can imagine there’s plenty of used ones within your range. They’re amazing. I loved that damn car… suv… whatever. Aside from my truck it’s the coolest vehicle I’ve driven. and no it wasn’t a company car lol
For real. There is no universe in which a PRESCHOOL administrator NEEDS a $90k vehicle of any kind. Shouldn't a decent chunk of that money go somewhere else, like, uh, I dunno, STUFF FOR THE STUDENTS? Or teacher salaries?
We just raised our teachers, substantially, despite business hurting because of the damn pandemic. Our curriculum was nationally accredited, and I wrote it. We just finished building an entire new warehouse for all the new toys, which my wife is in charge of ordering through our toy company. There is plenty of money going everywhere I can assure you. So not only was your assumption baseless, it was also factually wrong. Sorry if I sound irked, but I spend every waking hour making sure we're doing right by the teachers and students, and because of many people doing the same as me we made it through the pandemic without laying off a single person in a workforce of over 500. So the fact that someone even questions those motives is absurd. But this is the automotive thread. I don't know why you are clearly upset about it, but I'd rather not discuss it since it doesn't impact you, you don't impact me, and none of it is relevant to anyone else on here.
After working in a parts store and having a variety of different vehicles at the shop. I will never buy dodge. My latest thing dodge has done that pisses me off is there are 3 relays in the pdc(power distribution center) that are hard wired to the main board(fuel pump/wipers/?) instead of making them normal relays like all the other ones they are hard wired. So if any one of those 3 goes, you have to change the whole pdc instead of just the relay.
Got a call from the doctor, right leg isn’t broken just tore a bunch of shit as well. Awesome! Time to look at trucks then! ford dealership said it was gonna be until feb-March for delivery and was not helpful about what the 2022s entailed other than the new 12 inch screen. Didn’t know if there were other body changes, anything. Told them I’ll be back in a few months when they have a better idea. because the dodge dealership already knows to call me as soon as what I’m looking for comes in. They have an issue keeping 25 and 3500s on the lot, but they said more are coming in soon and I was open to some low-mileage used ones which gives them options as long as they meet my requirements on trim and options. Did not get a chance to ride in one, but again, I’m basically already sold on them because HOLY FUCK are the new ram’s sexy as hell!! edit: this is what I'm looking for basically
damn is it seriously this difficult to find a new car right now? I'm thinking it might be easier to just go to the dealership and order exactly what I want and wait a bit rather than wait and see what comes in. I guess at that point though when you order, there's no room for negotiation, since they know you want this because you said so.... or do I have no clue what I'm talking about?
Negotiating isn’t much a thing because the internet levels the playing field. It’s easy to see if you are being fucked. The last time I bought a car I emailed four dealerships. Told them what I wanted and what I was willing to pay. The first one to get there got my business. Everyone else had to explain to their significant other why they didn’t get paid that day.
CarGurus.com is where it's at. Cars.com is also helpful. I learned the hard way to do your research at home and know what make, model, and year vehicle(s) you are interested in before dealing with dealership people. I want to get the best deal possible for my specific need, not their highest markup that happens to fit my budget.
I knew/know the truck that I want. It will be close to a year for me to get it from when I ordered it, paying cash, no haggling.
It was pretty sad... I knew more about the options on the truck than the sales guy. Walked him through everything, and he missed a few things, even got them wrong on the sales order. Shitty sales guy, overall... I'm dealing with the GM directly now. They tried to get me to accept some 2020 inventory that wasn't selling, and I won't budge... I know the truck I want, thanks.
You can deal directly with GM? Is this a Canada thing? Afaik dealerships in the US are legally required middleman.
well fuck me running. I just got a random call from my cousin, an under-medicated and over-caffeinated used car salesman mercenary basically. Turns out one of his mentors is the new car sales director of ram dealership right across the highway. Apparently I am to expect a call, and that he would "hook you up." This was my initial experience when I walked into said ram dealership last week. I told the sales guy exactly what I was looking for, but that I was willing to look around at other 2500s because I understand the chip shortage issues. That clearly meant, window for compromise. Not try to sell me on something for a quick flip, or that's completely different in every way than what I said. What's worse, I knew more about the cars (just since Nett gave me a heads up on here) than he did. And it wasn't just rams, which I said were all that I was looking at -- I knew more about that dually chevy 3500 he was trying to flip. I knew more about that duramax he wanted to show me. I know that I have a baby face, and am actively crippled, but the truck he saw me pull up in was worth more used than the new ones he was trying to push. Take a hint, my time is worth more than this. Which is why I finally asked him if someone could get me exactly what I wanted. A few minutes later I was giving him my cell number to text pictures when they get something in. So now we'll see who finds it first, the smarter dude from the dealership, or the guy my car sales mercenary cousin knows.
I am not a car guy. But I spent ten years in sales, and I have a physical reaction of disappointment at these stories. Just…if you want to succeed in sales, LISTEN TO YOUR FUCKING CUSTOMERS. Don’t be afraid to say “I’ll be honest, you know more than me. Help me to learn what you know, and I’ll get you the car you need.” A customer might know more than you, but who the fuck cares? He’s not working there. It’s still your money.
