yeah so this is that limited, with the off road package and night edition. But it also has all the stuff like the different towing, bed, side and bumper cameras, l17 speakers. I’m just gonna slap an engine block heater on it, roof lights, and headrest speakers.
Yeah... I swapped out the rear end, put in the big alternator, snow plow package, advanced suspension, air assist brakes, etc, etc.
i thought about air assist and bigger alternator in case I “grew into it” a bit more than I anticipated. but then I realized you’re a bigger man than me. Fuck it. This will look really cool though!
Jesus, we've gone from drunken escapedes to conversations about the weather and from fast car stories to diesel truck talk. haha
Dealer sent me that picture of the truck I put a deposit on. Curious to see a human for scale. But damn if that color and black trim doesn’t just looks sexy as hell. Now I know how Dixie feels every time someone talks about long hair
so cool story I just found out about the cummins. I've known my in-laws for about 12 years now, and though I knew my father in law was an engineer who did testing involving engines, I never knew the details beyond that. Until I said I was getting a cummins. Turns out, he did fluids testing at one of the largest research places in the country. Y'all know like those engine oil commercials that say shit like "tested in sub 50's temperature" or "shown to increase horsepower by 3 percent!" His guys did those. And the engines they used, of various types, were all cummins. He said because they would just take whatever, impossible to break, and built to these extreme tolerances. The example he used was on this one massive engine, he said it was so large the drive shaft was over 3 tons, but that they could spin it with their hand and it would still rotate like another turn. A straight 6 cummins only means so much to me, but my father in law said that was a reason to get it, and he was blown away by the specs of what new engines are doing now.
it took a lot for me to go back to dodge -- which was also my first truck -- I'm not gonna lie. I think most of it had to do with the fact that a lot of stuff on the market in the larger sized trucks is just shit. GMC trucks suck (though my wife drives their suburban denali which is amazing), and the chevy is just a GMC without all the bling. Toyota and Nissan did some cool stuff that showed promise but look to be getting out of the HD market. Ford is great, just crazy expensive now though. And what tipped the scale for me was that Dodge has them on tech, specifically practical and useful tech, and also the mega cab vs. quad cab. Ford still has the edge in total power, though again if I'm needing all the torque and HP in that 6.7 cummins, I'm in deep enough shit and those extra few hundred horses and ft /lbs are only gonna make it worse. Just wish I could put that King Ranch interior in a Ram.
I know I just made these sweeping generalizations about all the truck manufacturers based upon what I've seen, but you're the diesel guru here. What is it about a cummins that makes it worthwhile, and what is it about mopar that makes it suck?
Truck is in my drive. Only thing I added were some TVs in the headrests for my kiddos and I moved my ranch hand low profile tool box over. this thing is essentially a high end luxury vehicle inside, on the frame of a powerful truck that laughs at anything I’ll ask it to do. Oh, and to give an idea of how crazy the car market is down here: - they gave me $37k for my 2015 f-250 king ranch powerstroke with some accident history. There were also two full price offers on this truck saturday (it was being held for me since friday), and someone tried to buy it from them WHILE I WAS BUYING IT TODAY!
with the way this was optioned out, it definitely skewed more on the looks/ride/luxury end rather than the towing/hauling/functional end, which is where I would have preferred, but in this market I can't complain about simply finding ANY 2500 or 3500 in mega cab limited. They simply do not exist outside of custom ordering, at least down here, because they all get claimed before they even make it to lots. Also, as is, I doubt if if I'll ever sniff the technical capabilities of this vehicle as it's setup anyway. Dude.... these things are QUIET!!! I honestly wasn't prepared for that. Outside it sounds like just an older gas engine, and inside I can barely hear any engine noise. Like I almost prefer I get some of that diesel growl a bit you know? Just the overall experience of driving it is so completely different than what I'm used to, with the functional technology and comfort it's almost like a cockpit rather than driver's seat. Thanks for turning me onto this. Not sure I would have considered it otherwise, and now I have an insane daily driver for like the next 10 years.
Truck looks and sounds awesome. I'm glad you like it. I'll be interested to hear from you in 10 years. I've never known anyone that kept a Dodge truck for 10 years.
Out of all the trucks I’ve had… from an F-250 to my GMC to my Cummins Ram, I miss the Ram the most and really look forward to driving one again.
I've owned 3. The '96 I sold in 2007 when I left for Iraq; the '08 I traded in for the '11 that I still have. The only reason I traded in the '08 was because I liked the new changes they made to the 4th gen enough (coil rear suspension, ram box, etc) and I was in a position financially where I could write a check for the remainder after what the dealer offered for trade on the '08. I currently have no plans to upgrade to a new truck. My intent is to keep the '11 for at least another 5yrs.
Okay, still very quiet inside, but damn if it doesn’t get that cool diesel growl when I press the gas. Guess I shouldn’t have made a judgment at 13 miles haha
Any vehile now are so expensive. Ford F350, only options are XLT/4x4/crew cab/long box - 72k with tax, no other options at all Ford F350, how i would option it out with a diesel - 100k with tax Entry level civic with no options is 30k with tax Top of the civic with options how i would order, 39k with tax. Price of vehicles are fucking insane.
Good to hear! I bought a Jeep Cherokee in January, so I am definitely glad to hear about CDJR longevity.
