A repair shop in town went tits up. All I can say to the fall out is "Holy shit!" "The single mother of six says she brought the car to Reliable to repair the air conditioning back in May. But when she finally tracked it down months later, the back seat was full of spare car parts and the engine was gone."
"Based on keys left behind and cars towed off the lot, Tony estimates at least 100 customers never received the repairs they were promised. If each customer was charged an average of $5,000, that's half a million dollars missing, most of it in cold hard cash." Maybe NV is different than CA, but here you in CA, you don't pay for repairs until the work has been completed. How are so many people out of thousands of dollars?
To be honest I was a bit confused over that too. I'm kind of wondering if it might be the neighborhood...It's pretty ghetto over there and places may ask for money up front. But still....the woman with the missing engine states she paid $5K for AC repairs on a Chrysler 300...I don't think that's even possible. I almost wonder if it's some kind of pay as you go for people with no credit? I was scratching my head over quite a few things in the story.
Just got called today that my new truck (RAM 3500 Cummins) is apparently built and en route... it'll be here in about a week. Finally! It's only been a year!
Pictures of the inside too. Just so we can laugh about how clean that is while people ooo and ahhh that we get a damn iPad in our center console lol did you get yours with a sunroof? I found one that didn’t, which was a big deal because they can leak, to the extent I was afraid to take my Ford in for a car wash the last few years I had it. Some people love them though, and the extended ones they have on the rams are slick
Most leaky sunroofs are because people park outdoors, and the drain tubes get clogged with dirt and grime and tree debris over time. You can run a pipe cleaner in it and / or flush it with a blast of compressed air.
Yeah, I consider most of the "sunroofs leak" stories more lack of maintenance and urban myth than anything. Sure, back in the 80's shit rubber gaskets and engineering caused problems, but it's pretty well sorted out now. As long as you keep the rubber maintained so it doesn't crack and slides easily, and drains cleaned, as you mention, it'll be fine.
(laughs in '00s GM/ Mopar) If you've got a sunroof/ moonroof/ T-Tops, YOU'VE GOT A HOLE IN YOUR ROOF. It's just a matter of WHEN it leaks. You can delay the process by keeping the car covered, but that isn't always possible. People used to always tell me that my Firebird was so cool, "but it's too bad it doesn't have T-tops." Bitch, what the hell do I want T-tops for?! I live in South Texas, I'd only get about two weeks out of the year to use them.
I'm betting that the extreme heat had something to do with them not working well. I've had sunroofs for years with zero problems.
I wish I had the opportunity to use my sunroof. If I was in a climate where I could have the windows down and everything most of the year, awesome, let's do this. But I like my AC and don't wanna be all hot and sticky. Only time I legitimately used my sunroof, other than just opening it to show people how it works, is when my sister was following me too close and being a smartass so I threw my gum out the top
I really enjoy having a sunroof and use mine frequently. In the truck, with it and the rear window open, I get a nice airflow without the noise that comes with the side windows open.
Exactly. Get the front and rear windows tuned just right with the sunroof and it’s a perfect flow thru of air.
Thinking of upgrading my Tacoma to a Tundra in the fall. I don't drive much, so the gas mileage difference wouldn't bother me. The extra space and power would be nice, as would the longer bed, so when I haul the bike, I don't have to remove my tool box. It's a 2019 Taco with 4 cylinders and 4wd. Trade in supposed to be $25-28k, and mine has about 27k miles. Looking at the basic Tundras, thinking I can get an upgrade for 10-12k. Am I hallucinating? Anyone have a Tundra? I got the Tacoma because it didn't depreciate much and is reliable. Can confirm that, and I am curious if the Tundras are as well.
You looking for new? I took my Titan to the dealer for service back in June and there was not a single truck on the lot for sale. Hope you can find what you're wanting.
Mine have never leaked, but they've also never been out since I've owned it. I wish mine was a slick top just for the structural rigidity I had an older Tundra for about 5 years. My father had bought it new and he beat the shit out of it....badly. I sold it when it was about 10 years old with 200K+ miles. Just before I sold it I drove 19 hours straight through at 85-90mph and it got the same gas mileage as it did when new and didn't burn a drop of oil. In the 200K+ miles dad FUBAR'd the tranny a couple of times pulling a heavy trailer across country multiple times and I had to replace the starter and water pump. That was it. Good, solid, well built truck...I wouldn't hesitate to own another one.
The only thing I can think of is the cam tower leaking issue. https://www.tundras.com/threads/cam-shaft-tower-seal-leaking-please-read.20102/
