I can't wait to see what that car does on the track. For how much the base car costs, that car is insane.

The non-Z06's that've driven by me sound downright docile, though I'm sure that tone changes at WFO. But, I would expect at least a decent growl at other times and I haven't heard it.

They are exhaust assist brakes... when enabled and they detect back pressure (due to lifting off on the accelerator) it restricts the exhaust output and forces backpressure into the engine to slow it down. They are surprisingly effective. For instance, driving through the mountains in BC, I could set my cruise control at 100 km/h and on even the steepest of downgrades I wouldn't have to hit the brakes... the exhaust assist was enough to slow things down to maintain a constant speed, even towing a 15k lbs race trailer.

Some people are just good at maintaining their shit. Did you think he did the bellows? What engine does it have?

My brother had an older Chaparral for years, it was a solid boat. He did owner maintenance and repairs, and he didn't know shit, and you could tell it.

It has the Merc 5.0 and Alpha One.

I don't think he did but we have an appointment for a full inspection on the 20th IIRC

It looks like an early 2000's boat. If it hasn't been done, they need to be, soon. If he kept in a garage and, like you said only used it for a couple hundred hours, they may still look new and be fine for a bit. 207 hours on that boat is low. I think they base recommended bellows changes on much more frequent use. I'd definitely replace them over the winter, but if they look good and the rubber feels good, I would use it the rest of the year without any worry.

didnt know what these were until I read something about them on a rv subreddit. Holy shit they’re amazing!! Used them when we towed and it made life so much simpler, that combined w the trailer brake system and the trailer that was about three times as long as anything I’ve pulled prior never gave me a single issue

now we’re looking at renting a 37-38 footer for the next trip, and I have no hesitation this time

seriously these rams were just fucking built right

I know what exhaust brakes(jake brakes, what ever you want to call them) are, just never heard them called air assist before. Weird that you had to get it as an option always thought that came standard. Most of the newer vehicles close the variable vanes in the turbos.

Yeah, my bad for calling them air assist… meant to say exhaust assist.

I am so over the moon with the new truck. It is everything I was hoping for and more. Insane towing power, super comfortable, and just so much fun to drive.

Next weekend I’m finally taking the Tim Can out for a long weekend trial run. Can’t wait.

I'll just assume that's not a typo and you now have a boyfriend named Timothy, from Canada, and you call him Tim Can.

I guess I should have brought this up sooner, but a couple of months ago, Jungle Julia's dad GAVE us his 1990 Chevy Suburban (JJ's first car, for the record).

This guy lives in the city, and between him, his wife, and their other daughter, they've got so many cars they can't fit them all on the lot.
So JJ convinced him to hand over the title.

I looked it over, and while it did need a few things (Front brakes, wheel bearings, carrier bearing, a couple of U-Joints), it seemed pretty good.

Once I fixed that stuff, I started driving it to work, just to make sure it was roadworthy, and it was - for awhile.

One morning, out of nowhere, it started running like hot dog shit.

Check engine light came on, MAP sensor codes.

Long story short, two of the intake valves (3 and 5) are leaking, blowing compression into the intake manifold. That cylinder head has to come off.

Did y'all know that the TBI heads were the WORST performing heads that Chevy ever made? Because they are. They're called "Swirl port" heads, and they were used (like many performance killers) for emissions reasons.

I'm not putting any money into those door-stops, so I pulled the heads off of an '88 Firebird parts car that I had, and I'm going to rebuild those, and while I've got the engine apart, I just might stick a better cam in there as well.

I'll let y'all know how it goes.

I'll tell you why (and I'm saying this as a guy who has a pair of Vortec heads sitting in my shop - cores): It's going to be a lot more expensive.

I Vortec-swapped my TBI Firebird. But I needed a new intake and a throttle body adapter, which sets me back about $300 on a good day.
Then I'll need a chip to tune out the EGR, so there's another $250.

Then I'd have to modify the throttle linkage points, because the Vortec heads only have four bolts per side (AT DIFFERENT ANGLES!), as opposed to six on the older smallblocks.

By using the TPI heads, I eliminate that $550 charge and hassle.

Here's the other thing: I'm still going to run the factory TBI intake and exhaust manifolds*, so the upgrade to Vortec heads would probably never be realized. IF I put in a new cam, it will be something for more low/ mid-range power.

Also, these are 305 TPI heads (081 castings), and that will give me a bump in compression. I haven't done the math on it, but I'd guess half a point.

*As opposed to my Firebird, which had an Edelbrock Vortec intake and headers.
