God I hate these cars. They're a kit car that is meant to be a "street legal Porsche 917". While they do look pretty good, and have shown some excellent workmanship in their construction, they are anything but a 917. And they drive like crap.
Asking guys about their wax preferences is like asking them about their beer preferences. Everyone has a different opinion, analysis, and story. I'm a big fan of Zymol products but they're expensive and can be a pain in the ass to use if you don't really know what you're doing and the weather conditions aren't just right. For something you can grab at any Autozone/Advanced Auto Parts I'd recommend Mother's brand. It's still a great product but is a little more forgiving and easier to use.
I use Zymol as well, (at least on my Porsche), as do most of the Porsche crowd I know, including the clean-freaks that show them. For my truck and daily driver, I use a cheap wash and wax product that I can't even remember the name of.
Yeah, but the suspension and brakes are crap, and the balance is absolute shit. I'd much rather have a 914 with an SBC conversion. $0.02 (CDN)
You're right. My bad. This is what I was referring to: It looked like that to me, but I obviously didn't look close enough. (My only excuse is that I don't know Ferarris, am on vacation, and have been drinking). The pic I attached is a cheesy kit car that had the balls to call itself a 917 replica. (See the gaudy hood badge). That is what I was referring to. At the 4-day Porsche event I put on, where that above pic was taken, I brought in Vic Elford as a guest speaker. He raced 917k's at Le Mans, and is featured heavily in the movie Le Mans, and drove the camera car (a 917 with a camera strapped to the hood) to get the car-to-car race footage. Needless to say, he knows 917's. When I told him that they called it a 917, his direct and immediate response was "fuck off... that is NO 917". He was totally disgusted.
no worries, mate. If you really want to know about F-cars, just wait for Durbanite to chime in. After an inquiry the chassis is Ferrari; based on a 308. I'm into my second liter of sangria today and those two cars looked very similiar.
Thanks. I'll pick up some decent wax this weekend and get to shining. Oh, and that P4 is drool-worthy.
I'm more interested to hear what engine they found to power that beast. I'm pretty certain that those 3 litre V12s are pretty fucking rare. Did he try to shoehorn in a V12 from a later 412 or 400 Spoiler (the cheapest V12 Ferrari available, as far as I'm aware, and also the most plentiful, so easier to get parts - I saw one going here in S.A. for $25k - that's at LEAST $7.5k less than a 308 GTB) , or is it powered by the engine from the 308 chassis that was used for the vehicle? Also, which 308 was used? GTB/GTS or GT4? I think they have differing measurements, due to the GTB/GTS being strict 2 seaters, while the 308GT4 was a 2+2 seater.
SBC is Small Block Chevy. So, American V8. And with that, you eliminate the shittiest thing about Ferrari ownership; frequent and expensive tune ups.
And with SBC, means mostly 5.0L or 5.7L, guess technically means the new 5.3/6.0... but usually when people say SBC, they mean the 5.0/5.7, but they are so outdated now, go with the LS(5.3/6.0/7.0) all aluminum, way more power, great design of an engine, you can do almost anything with the new LS series of engine.
My sister is shopping for an SUV / Crossover. Besides knowing how shitty their gas mileage is I have next to zero interest in SUVs (unless we're talking SRT-8s or Cayenne turbos) All the cars she's looking at are certified pre-owned, 30-40k miles or so. She's in med school in AZ and both she and her boyfriend have ZERO mechanical ability and are the types to skip an oil change every so often. Her short list: Volvo XC 90 Subaru Forester XS/XT Toyota FJ Cruiser (the new ugly one not the old classic) Thoughts &/or horror stories?
Our next vehicle will be in that segment, so I've done enough research to know that the Volvo is out. They have all kinds of problems. If she's looking at the XC90 I'd recommend the Lexus RX and Acura MDX instead.
I am looking into buying a new ruck this winter. I realy like the styling on the new GMC Sierra Z71 All Terrain. I was wondering if anyone has owned one or known anyone with one. They aren't real common, so I have had a hard time finding reviews.
Don't know about the rest but my boss had a XC 90 for a while. It was a very nice vehicle but reliability did not come with it. If I remember correctly, he had to have the transmission replaced twice and the engine sometimes would just die. He said it was like the fuel pump would just shut off. The Volvo dealer never did get that diagnosed. He eventually traded it in for a Mercedes SUV.
I've spent plenty of time driving these. They are a blast, can go any where, perfectly behaved on city roads. MPG isn't the best, I remember around 17MPG for me. The interior space for loading up is really more than adequate. The looks will grow on you. Also there is a supercharger available for even more stupid fun.
I figured the Volvo quality was suspect since they cost as much as a Lexus, BMW, and Acura when new but are going for $10k less on the used market for the same year, options, etc. I still love the Volvo sedans though. The S60R will always have a special place in my heart.
The Z71 is just their offroad package. It is still just a regular 1500. So with that, it is a Chev, cant go wrong with it. Only problem i really know of is that the rear brakes sucks, and you change the rear brakes about 2 times to the front(normal is about 3to4 front changes to 1 rear), but other then that there are a pretty solid truck.
