Anywho, on a totally different note, sometimes I find myself on the computer playing casual games. I'm used to them being simplistic, time-wasting garbage, but I've noticed recently that they've substantially improved in quality. In fact, three recent ones were really good; Cactus McCoy- Basically, a side-scrolling platforming brawler set in the West. The mechanics are surprisingly deep; the array of weapons is incredible and allows you to do some fun things, and juggling 5+ dead enemies in the air is sheer pleasure. In a way, the game reminds me of old platformers like Super Mario World or Donkey Kong Country; yes, it's simple to beat all the levels and the game, but the real fun is discovering the secrets. In the case of Cactus McCoy, not only are there 5 well-hidden treasures per level, but there are 5 objectives per level, which range from trivial to fiendishly difficult. Bullet Heaven- I've always thought that a vertical space shooting bullet hell game would be absolutely perfect for the Flash format, but sadly, there are so few of them. Well, this is an awesome exception; beating the first 20 levels is a moderate challenge, with only the final boss presenting any difficulty. However, getting an "A", or better yet, "S" rank on all the levels, unlocking the bonus bosses, and getting deep into survival mode is the true challenge and fun of the game. Formula Racer- A 3D racer. The controls and mechanics are painfully simple; just the arrow keys and space bar to boost, and yet, it is insanely addictive. There's also more skill involved than one thinks; getting first place on the last race with the default car is not easy. Also, the secret car you unlock at the end is both hilarious and a pure joy to play with, after the difficult hairpin turns your original F1 racer struggled with.
Hahahhaahhaahahahahaha What's that, you're trying to tell me that gamers have personal preferences? Which influence the games they enjoy playing? MY WORD!
I would strongly advise you to play the RE5 demo first, otherwise you might get used to this ability that Capcom hasn't deemed important enough in include in the entirety of the Resident Evil series but EA put into Dead Space, that ability you ask? Moving while shooting. Sadly, I'm not kidding, in a survival horror game set in Africa about zombies you lack the ability to shoot while moving, you have to stop, aim, and shoot. Heaven help you if you have two enemies coming from different directions, they better fix that shit for Resident Evil 6.
That was such a weird gameplay element of RE5. However, I still thought it was a really fun game and if you can, play it co-op. for about 2 weeks straight me and a buddy of mine would come home after work and spend 3-4 hours playing RE5 on co-op and it was a blast. Dead Space 2 was great too.
I would second this, mainly because AI controlled Sheva is borderline retarded, it got to the point where I would treat her like a pack mule because she will run up and use a health spray on you (it restores 100% health) if you stub your toe. However I didn't understand Capcom's thinking when it came to split screen, I mean what the fuck is up with not even using a full half per character? Makes no sense.
Having been away from my PS3 for a while now I just read of recent hacker attacks on PSN by Anonymous. What the hells going on? Anyone with a PS3 experiencing any of the outages and how bad are they? I missed the story where hackers flooded CoD after some sort of PSN source code was hacked?
Not sure if this is the article you read, but it seems to explain the backstory pretty well: <a class="postlink" href="http://www.gamasutra.com/view/news/33995/Anonymous_Halts_PSN_Attacks_To_Avoid_Inconveniencing_Gamers.php" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.gamasutra.com/view/news/3399 ... Gamers.php</a> Regarding the Anonymous update today [emphasis mine]: What the fucking fuck! God I hate it when people do this. Learn teh grammars if you want to be taken seriously.
I was WONDERING what the fuck was going on, that really pissed me the fuck off, I don't have cable and Netflix through PS3 is my only source of television entertainment.
Christ, FUCK Anon. Sometimes they're absolutely right (Westboro Baptist Church, Scientology, WikiLeaks) but this time they're targeting the wrong people (me). Get the fuck off of my lawn has never sounded so right.
To be fair, their reasoning for backing off was precisely that: to avoid further inconveniencing the players. They cited the interruption of gameplay as "collateral damage," and backed off out of concern for the players, with whom they have no quarrel. If we're to believe their initial announcement, their reason for attacking Sony in the first place had to do with Sony's legal pursuit of a couple PS3 players who reveled how to bypass security protocols. If you ask me, both sides are somewhat right in what they're doing. Sony is trying to prevent their players from modifying their consoles, the primary reason for which, it is assumed, would be for gaming piracy. Anon retaliated, saying their attack on Sony was akin to Sony's "attack" (for all intents and purposes, that's what it was) of the PSN community, and that they were infringing on the rights of these players, who ought to have a right modify their console however they please, as they are now the owners of that console. That's where things get complicated, because the whole issue over licensing terms and what companies do (and mostly don't) permit you to do with their hardware and software after buying them, has become quite a big debate lately. It goes beyond the whole "don't steal this game, don't use it for monetary gain, blah blah blah." Companies (in this case, Sony) are also saying that you can't modify a console or unit to go beyond the scope of what the company intended. So taking your PS3 or Xbox apart is considered a big no-no. Which probably explains why they're so mothercunting difficult to open in the first place. At least, that's how I've come to understand the whole thing. Since their actions were also infringing on PSN players, which is counterintuitive to their goal, they stopped. They've made it abundantly clear that their problems lie only with Sony, and not the gaming community.
Anyone else doing the Black Prophecy Beta? Or well for anyone from the EU, they have the full game over there. It's a Space Combat MMO, not like EVE Online, you're actually flying your ship. Check out the website, I'm pretty sure the Beta is easy to get into if you sign-up for it.
Damn, this game is becoming the next Elasto Mania for me. Spending WAY too much time on getting that one spot on the map down perfectly, but when you do, it feels like hitting the jackpot. Incidentally, my fingers are starting to hurt from furiously pressing 4 buttons. Great.
I like Yatzee's take on it: <a class="postlink" href="http://www.escapistmagazine.com/videos/view/zero-punctuation/624-Resident-Evil-5" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.escapistmagazine.com/videos/ ... ent-Evil-5</a>
I was more wondering if Anon's recent attacks had anything to do with the hacking of the PSN network a few weeks (months?) ago where people flooded games, like MW2, with hacks that made the games lame to play. The network source code had been hacked, or something along those lines, and the game companies could only wait for Sony to fix the service. Not that Anon had a hand in that but from reading about their recent attacks they are trying to force Sony to allow people to basically jailbreak their PS3s to create "programing" or "mods" how ever they choose. It really sounds like it would just lead to more fucking hackers ruining online play with hacks (if I sound way off base, I know, Im pretty clueless about computer programing).
Has anyone played the full version of Tiger Woods 12: The Masters? I downloaded the demo, and wanted to punch the caddy in the face. I realize that to be more realistic, a caddy would be involved, however I just want to play and make my own calls. Does anyone know if you can turn him off in the full version? Also, the old school putting... Did that go the way of the Dodo in this? I hate the default putting system in TW 10 and up.
Yes, I picked up the full version and I've been having quite a bit of fun with it. The caddy can be helpful at times but you can definitely turn him off and just pick your own shots. As far as the putting goes, I haven't played a Tiger Woods golf game in years, so I can't really say...I definitely suck at putting though.
EU LoL has gotten pretty crazy recently. Log in queue often sais my position is >9000 and wait times range up to an hour.
I would start again from scratch with a team of 5. I'm about a half level from 30 on my main account but sometimes play a low level account to learn new champs that are free for the week. All the times I play it seems everyone is in a game so I haven't got to team up with many from the board.
