Haha, no, but I hate Game Stop more than I hate getting the original Sub-Zero skin. Plus they are either all unlocked in game, or they'll be released soon. All the classic skins are already on the disk. Which is sort of fucked up if they'll charge for them later. For PS3, you can tell when DLC is on the disk because the download is only 100KB, which means you're just downloading an unlock. We'll see. I'm happy its not some day one DLC shit, that'll bother me the most.

Uh...well your response to the spoiler is simple
Liu Kang always dies. He's not actually the chosen one. He died in the other games too. Don't remember who kills him, but it causes Kung Lao to stop being a queer and step up his game.

There is an extremely simple, brain-dead way to beat Shao Kahn.

When you're Liu Kang, simply stand a full screen away, and if you time your fireball right, you will hit Shao Kahn during his start-up frames as he is spamming projectiles. Rinse and repeat; his AI is extremely dumb, and instead of closing the distance, he will keep trying to throw projectiles and get hit.

The mistake people make the first few times is to try to rush Shao Kahn down or mix him up, which is wrong not so much because of his crazy damage and health, but rather, because of his super armor and lightning quick reversals.

Honestly, I found a couple of the 2 vs. 1 fights more difficult than Shao Kahn.

That doesn't really make sense because
Kung Lao got his neck snapped halfway through the game.
Also KIMaster, that's exactly why I dislike him as a boss. He's so cheap, the only thing you can do is use a cheap tactic as well. It was like this in Trilogy as well. I'd get Noob Saibot and spam his braindead four kick combo (Circle, circle, circle, circle. Real rocket science stuff.) and the guy would go down. In this game I'd just teleport behind him every time he'd throw a projectile and uppercut him. Except sometimes the uppercut doesn't register because he's Shao Kahn, really anger-inducing.

That's why I don't like playing against CPU opponents. There's no reaction time on their part, so you can either run around uppercutting them all the time or juggle the shit out of them. I noticed this with Shao Kahn too. Every time I threw a projectile at him, he launched one back at exactly the same time, only his caused more damage and stunned me as well.

But that's pretty much my only gripe with the game, though. /rant

Mortal Kombat -

I haven't really played a fighting game in probably 8 years or so. This one is incredibly fun though. I've mainly been focusing on the story mode b/c I like to get those out of the way first. I like that you have more options than just the story mode and character tower. The challenges offer a nice respite from when you get pissed off from dying 5 times in a row on a single battle.

Going back to the controller debate, I really don't like using the standard XBox controller. I use the thumbstick b/c the D-pad just seems infuriating, but even then I get a lot of movements I'm not intending. I also don't like how the storymode resets to the beginning of whatever chapter you were last on. For instance, if I am three battles into Sub-Zero's chapter and quit, it will take my back to Sub-Zero's first battle. Rather annoying. Also, you can't skip the cinema scenes, which can be long and drawn out. Combine that with the whole chapter reset, and you're forced to watch scenes you already saw.

I'm in Chapter 16: Raiden right now and it is going to be the end of me. You have to fight through a fucking gauntlet, one fighter after another (best of 1 round) and your health doesn't return when you win. I don't know how long it is as I haven't been able to get past the 3rd guy. If anyone has any ideas, I'd be in your debt. Maybe I should shell out for the strategy guide.
=============

I also picked up Portal 2, but I've been so engrossed in MK that I haven't even opened it yet.

Mortal Kombat: the complete fatality guide. http://bit.ly/fd8ldZ

Just. Fucking. Awesome.

And this is exactly why I have a Twitter. I was on the fence about picking this game up but now it has to happen.

While it sucks that the PSN is apparently going to be down for the remainder of time, the next best thing is my Nintendo 64. Drank a ton of liquor and played Mario Tennis for about three hours last night with some buddies, then put Goldeneye in and shit got real, quick. I forgot that an N64 instantly turns 25-year-old men back into 13-year-old boys, complete with pushing, yelling, and crying (kind of exaggerating, but it was pretty close). Awesomeness.

It's honestly not that hard, nor different than previous gauntlet matches in earlier MKs. Don't waste your freaking money on a strategy guide, either; there are plenty of amazing resources online, including SRK, Youtube, and this developing wiki.

Anyways, just master Raiden's bread-and-butter combos, get good at using his flying tackle as a counter, and you should be fine in those matches.

God forbid you get Mario Kart 64 up in that bitch. I'm reasonably sure that game led to the breaking of many controllers, bones, and friendships.

No, but seriously, what the fuck is going on with PSN? I haven't been able to get on for like 3 days.

Playstation claim that they were hacked, and Anonymous is claiming that they are not responsible for the hacking. Either way, the network is still down and apparently will be for a while.

Edit: Awful grammar.

Son of a fuck, luckily I've been able to access Netflix despite this lately, though it asks me to log in every god damn time I finish a movie/episode.

You can still log in? I always get the 'under maintenance' screen.

Christ, these 5 days without PSN have made me look and act like an addict. This sucks, because I've even considered buying an Xbox. It's that bad.

It still gives me the maintenance thing too and says I'm logged out, but lets me play movies on Netflix, haven't tried video games yet.

It may have been a hacker attack in the form of DDoS or something along those lines. Of course Sony won't admit that either way.

I too can run Netflix during the outage, as we should since it only requires a wireless connection, not PSN.

A week before PSN was down I was having problems logging in. I'd have to keep doing it over and over and I'd be able to get in and play. Sometimes it'd log me out, sometimes it wouldn't. I contacted customer support and I got a vague "PSN is experiencing technical difficulties." Then it went down for good. They better give mother fuckers a free game or something for this shit.

Man, you guys blew through the MK storyline quick. I just got past my first Shao Khan battle. Hello spamming fireball. I totally just realized this storyline was done pretty much like the MK vs DC storyline. Just told better with more fights and longer. The level of detail in the stages is fucking sick. Kind of annoying to have a ton of points and click each and every grave, but oh well.

There's still the challenge tower. I'm at like.. round 100? Not even close to halfway I think. I love this shit.

You're reasonably close to halfway...there are a total of 300 challenges. I've played through them all already (most are really quick and simple)...only to receive the most disappointing reward ever.

Has anyone ever had trouble with their 360 constantly freezing?

Lately(online or offline), at some point between 5-30 minutes my xbox freezes. It does this on multiple games and at seemingly random times. I've searched the web, but couldn't find a good answer. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks guys.

All I can say is make sure you save all your games. Your shit is probably about to die. It's an Xbox, you aware what the RROD is right? It's coming.

Holy hell is playing Mordekaiser in LoL fun as fuck. I knew I should have gotten him instead of Shaco, who is one of the hardest fucking champions to play. Impossible to catch-up with him either. It's going to take me forever to learn the jungling pattern, so I might just have to let him go, we'll see.

Yup. Bank on it.

That happened to me around this time last year. I was playing nothing but Fallout 3 at the time, and would constantly experience the game freezing, even though the audio/music would continue like normal (thank you, autosave!). A couple weeks later, it got the red ring. As far as I know, Microsoft retroactively extended their warranty to 3 years because of how frequently the consoles experience this sort of thing, so you might have an option there.

For what it's worth, not only was my console pre-owned, but I didn't even buy the thing (it was a gift from my then-girlfriend). Even still, customer service was happy to take me through the steps so that I could send in my dead console, and they sent me a free replacement, free of charge. They even paid for the shipping.

Side note to all you PS3 guys: does this shitty PSN stuff finally settle the Xbox/PlayStation debate? WHERE IS YOUR GOD NOW???

Seriously though, you guys better get some kind of reimbursement for your troubles. It sucks that their network has been down for this long. I wouldn't be surprised if the dumbasses at Anonymous didn't properly backtrack, and their little prank a few weeks back has something to do with the current network problems.

However, I will say that you get what you pay for. It's kind of hard to complain about a free service being unavailable, y'know? If this was happening with a $50/year XBL account, it'd be a much different story.
