That part took me a good 15-20 deaths to get through. I went upstairs and threw grenades and flashes like it was my job. Also, I'm pretty sure I had the M240 and something with a huge clip and decent sights. All you have to watch out for is the front door and the door to the right at the bottom of the stairs. Every once in a while a random dude will come up near the laptop, but then you just run to the railing to your left and blast him.

I don't know where the hatred for the FAL is coming from, I just unlocked it and have done nothing but dominate with it. It's like everything that was good about the G3 in CoD4, but better because you can slap a silencer and a scope on it. I was glad to see the RPD make its return as the most triumphant LMG in the game. ACOG/thermal + silencer = tons of win. And what developer decided that dual-wielding P90s was a good idea? They deserve a promotion. On a close quarters map with scavenger you can basically cheesegrate everything by just looking in its general direction and holding shoot.

If anyone wants to add me on PSN I'm awwwSNAP there too, but I don't have a mic so I won't be very chatty. Only my dog gets to hear my shit talking.

I am loving Dragon Age: Origins. I know it has been said already here, but i can't stop playing it. I refuse to buy any other game until I have thoroughly destroyed the disc and can do no more with it. I think my next purchase will be Mass Effect 2. I seriously believe Bioware is trying to ruin any social life I had.

So Black Friday sucked me in. I ordered both Borderlands and Dragon Age: Origins from Amazon for a total of $58. (Both PC versions.)

Now I need to work on clearing out my game backlog before they get here. That includes Magic Carpet, which I just got to run on DosBox. It's typical that I have all this fancy hardware and I'm using it to run a game that pre-dates video cards. But holy shit is it still fun.

I always set up claymores at the entrances into the house including the basement-to-kitchen doorway, and the doorways leading into the main room. I shoot all the baddies outside the front door first, then run behind the computer desk(cover) and pick off the ones that come in the two front doorways with gun and grenades. When I know a flashbang is coming, I keep my gun pointed at the front door and shoot through it(they usually come in from there during one), but it rarely gets me/has much of an effect from that position.

I've found that Dragon Age is one of those games where, when I'm not playing it, I tend to think "meh, I can play later." But, as soon as I start playing, I can't put it down. Just can't. Today, I started playing at 11 am, thinking I'd play for an hour or so and then get some other stuff done. My wife called me at 5 to pick her up from work, and I was still playing. I'm pretty sure I'd have been entranced in front of the TV for another twelve hours if she hadn't called. It is just that hard to put down.

I refuse to continue playing Fallout 3 for this very reason. I love games, but I've got shit to do with my life.

Any input on Borderlands? I've heard very good things about it but I don't currently have the money to justify buying it.

Also, any other indie game fans on here? I love the fact that you can find smaller games doing things and considering issues that big-budget games are too often loath to approach.

I have heard fantastic things about Torchlight (on steam). Similar to Diablo, nice graphics, good game play, and for like $20 you cannot go wrong

    Just got MW2 for PS3.

I'm pretty terrible so far online. I usually have a 2:1 at best deaths to kills ratio.

What's the best way to learn how to handle this game online?
    I'm level 20 I think

I checked out Torchlight from the recommendation of some folks on here. I got the demo and after 20 minutes or so just bought the game. Its worth the 20 dollar price for sure. UI is simple and the graphics are good enough. Game play is easy just click and watch the carnage.

There's really nothing for it but to keep playing.Going through the campaign and playing with Spec Ops first might help, I feel like I beat the CoD4 campaign before I ever touched multiplayer.

Also, finding easy guns makes a huge difference. I can't remember exactly what's available at the beginning, but the M4, UMP45, and RPD are all pretty beginner-friendly, the RPD especially. The great iron sights make it a beast of a gun with a grip.

Perk selection is also pretty important, but just getting the feel of the game I'll go ahead and say Sleight of Hand, Stopping Power, and Steady Aim can go in every one of your classes. Sleight of Hand Pro is especially useful because the split second quicker that it makes aiming makes a huge difference - if you can sight your RPD as fast as the other guy sights his MP5, you stand a much better chance of winning the fight than he does.

Hope this helps a bit, good luck

I bought borderlands, played thru it in a few days. It was fun, don't get me wrong, but it was rather easy imo, and after beating it with the soldier class, i just dont have the desire to go back and play it again. Otherwise, fun game that kept me entertained for a bit

For me, find a gun you like, and pick perks that you will think will maximize your strenghts. Try to keep moving. Run from one cover, to another, and dont stay there for too long otherwise you'll get picked off. I usually run to one section, scan twice over the course of 5-10 seconds and move on.

Try and play with friends to, it makes it a lot more enjoyable and you wont get discouraged.

The one thing I realize I'm not doing when I'm playing bad is focusing on my surroundings. Try and slow things down, predict where an enemy might be, and get read to fire. Just use your map to do this. This will help you start to realize the trends different types of games take and where those players go.

    Hope this helps a little

Im in the same boat since this is my first CoD. It must look weird when a level 46 is shitting it out but thats what happens when you share your account with your little brother who's had all of the CoDs.

My brother gave me a few good pointers that have helped a lot. One, use the perk that allows you to achieve killstreak rewards faster and make sure to set the radar perk for 2 kills. Knowing where all the enemies are goes a long way for sneaking up on them and not getting ambushed repeatedly. Two, learn to knife people, melee doesn't require pinpoint accuracy like a gun so you can just hit the R3 button when a guy runs up on you close quarters. Plus sneaking up behind someone and knifing them is really satisfying.

This is my first FPS on a console since Goldeneye (I was dominant at that game, thought I could just pick up this the same way, wrong) but I have played the Battlefield games on PC. The first day of playing online I almost smashed my controller many times. The first few games I think I got an average of 1 kill while dieing 15-17 times. At least I have improved to about 1 kill per death but I still suck.

At least I have some tips from you guys to try now, if anyone has any other advice please share.

I just beat the campaign in MW2 and am very proud of myself. I usually just stick to campaign and play special ops with my friends because playing online is an embarrassment for me. The campaign was hugely entertaining, much like the campaign from the original Modern Warfare. The makers of the games clearly put quite a bit of thought into the story lines, it could easily be a movie with all the plot developments and twists. Alas, tomorrow I return to school and must leave the Xbox to my brothers. The goal for Thanksgiving break was to beat the campaign, and I can proudly say I did so.

I was the complete opposite. The first thing I got on was multiplayer, and I didn't even touch single player until about a week after release. I beat it once and went right back to multiplayer. My current killstreak is at 32. Don't let a chopper gunner/ac-130 fly around the map tearing up your team. I didn't get to nuke because I didn't have it unlocked which pissed me off, oh well though.

What game type do you guys play? I stick to the hardcore modes with the extra bullet damage so I can use a different perk besides stopping power, which I feel is necessary in every other mode because all the other people are using it. I usually go with Sleight of Hand, Cold Blooded, and Last Stand. You'd be surprised how many people count you out once you go down and they don't make sure your dead. Can get a kill or two crawling around.

Dmix3 might have some good advice.

    For MW2 I suggest a few things:

    - Bread and butter perks are Sleight of Hand, Scavenger, Stopping Power, Cold Blooded, Steady Aim (not for three round burst weapons though) and Commando. Practice with them.

    - Certain perks are for certain modes. SitRep and Last Stand each have their purposes but they're not really for deathmatch. There are a few more examples like Stopping Power for hardcore mode (previously mentioned).

    - Perks and equipment should compliment each other. High damage guns don't always require stopping power like some of the lower damage guns, allowing you to use Cold Blooded. Scavenger can help you to get more claymores if you're camping.

    - The maps determine which builds are useful. If it's a map with big expanses, prepare for snipers. If it's a map with lots of buildings, prepare for campers. Also, submachine guns will work better when there are lots of corridors and short range combat.

So here are the two builds I've had success with:

Knifer: Idea is to knife as much as possible. This build is better for free for all but can work for smaller deathmatches too. Use your p90 if someone spots you and you can't lunge at them fast enough. Have UAV on as a killstreak so you can sneak up on people as much as possible.

Primary: P90 (or another sub machine gun for fastest movement)
Secondary: Anything. Whichever gun you prefer. You won't be using it much.
Perk 1: Marathon (Always run everywhere)
    Perk 2: Lightweight
Perk 3: Commando (Your lunge distance is quite far. You lunge when you're sprinting and targeting an opponent)

Balanced: You'll see most people using this build, mainly because it's the first one you have the perks/weapons for. It's also quite strong. Stay behind cover and run/gun or camp if that's your style. Camping can also be your friend but be a smart camper and move every once in awhile because people will want revenge.

Primary: Strong assault rifles. Try one of the following: SCAR, FAMAS, M4A1 and M16A4. I strongly suggest a silencer.
Secondary: If you use scavenger, pack your favorite pistol for a quick switch. Otherwise use a gun that works in short range like your favorite machine pistol or shotty.
Equipment: Claymores if you love camping and have Scavenger. Otherwise pack frags.
Perk 1: Scavenger if you have claymores and want a pistol. Otherwise Sleight of Hand.
    Perk 2: Stopping Power
Perk 3: Steady Aim if your gun is fully automatic; you'll win most close range fights from the hip. Otherwise pack Commando.

Killstreaks: The best kill streaks if you're alone are Harrier and Chopper Gunner/AC130. These will set you up for the nuke. If you're not good enough for these yet I suggest you take the highest killstreak you have been able to reach in the past fairly consistently. I made my bones on UAV --> Harrier --> Pavelow. I hate Predator, it's too unpredictable.

    Hopefully this helps.
