Knife classes in this game are so ridiculous. I just made one and decided to play free for all (first time I have ever played that mode - not even in CoD4 which I have had since release) and ran around knifing everyone in the face/back/neck. Good fun. Not too reliable though, I've averaging about a 1:1 k/d on good maps (rust, terminal) with just the knife, and with real guns I can usually get at least 1.5ish... But knifing is way fun. Throwing knives are also super sweet. I just did the challenge for ending the game with a throwing knife kill, and it was epic. Nothing like though.

Finally burned through Assassin's Creed II last night. Good. Effing. Lord.
I feel like Ubisoft Montreal kind of missed the point with this game, while somehow drastically improving over the first. The added weapons/armor and mission variants really put it head-and-shoulders over the original AC.

But when it comes to the story? Did they even PLAY their first game?
What was brilliant about AC was cutting the Altair parts into bite-sized chunks and infusing them with Desmond's quasi-sci-fi parts. When you got to go have fun playing in the Holy Land, you always had that last strange happening or twist from the modern world on your mind, which added layers of depth to the whole thing.

With Ezio, his story seems fairly bland (as was Altair's, to be fair), but rather than the consistent back-and-forth, they just keep us in the Animus for too long. While the mechanics are more fun, there seems to be much less driving the whole thing until the last hour.

All in all, it was a fun game. I'm hoping they take what they learned from each of the first two and finish off the trilogy in style.

Now just a quick question for you all--I finally cracked into Dragon Age: Origins last night, and despite being a bit of an RPG dork, I couldn't really get into it. I loved Oblivion, Mass Effect, Lost Odyssey, etc., but for me, this almost felt like just an offline version of World of Warcraft. I usually really dig BioWare's games. Anybody have any advice at how to approach this one so I can really get into it? I feel like maybe I just missed the point somewhere.

Honestly, it took me a bit of time to get into the game, myself. I had just gotten done playing Demon's Souls, and coming into Dragon Age (still an RPG, but still a VERY different game) I had trouble adjusting and getting into the story. Honestly, once it got to the point where I could go anyplace I wanted, do any quest I wanted, and go in any order I wanted, things sort of fell into place.

I also enjoyed trying to bang the other members of the party. Thats always fun. I also noted that there are 4 characters you can hook up with, 2 female and 2 male. If you create a male character, you can only 'romance' 3 of them... same with a female. Yes, there are two bisexual characters, giving you the option of some hot girl-on-girl action. Apparently, if you work things right, you can actually engage in a threesome at one point in the game (you have to start as a female character, so I haven't tried this yet). I don't know why, but I find that oddly fascinating.

I guess my advice is to try talking to everyone. I know everyone says that about every RPG, but in this game there are so many options and responses when you talk to people, it seems like it is easy to take it for granted. When it comes to Dragon Age, the quests are fun, but the other characters are more fleshed out and I have more fun working on character quests than the other random side quests. I guess my advice is give it time to build a bit. My experience is that most RPGs have very, very slow starts, but get better at about the 5 to 10 hour mark (if it is a 40+ hour game).

I'm thinking about selling my xbox and blu ray player. I have a lot of 360 accessories so I'm hoping I'll be able to get a PS3 for virtually free, any opinions on this? I'm kind of over my 360 and I've always wanted a PS3 just couldn't afford it when it was $400.
    Good choice or no?

    A tip for MW

I havent played the second one but what got me a lot of kills was to use the perk that made you invisible on radar. (sorry I dont know what it´s called in English) and then avoid the places that everyone runs to. Often everyone will be charging for a certain building or area in deathmatch so all you have to do is sneak behind the opponents instead of going head on. You dont even need a silenced weapon.

    I guess that depends.

Most games are on both systems now-a-days. There are a few exceptions, such as Halo (Xbox) and inFamous (PS3).

Most people agree that the PS3 is the standard by which blu-ray players are measured, so that is a plus, as well.

My personal opinion is that I prefer a PS3. The only thing that might sway me towards Xbox would be Halo, but as I don't play FPS games, that sort of cements it for me.

Again, it is all personal preference when it comes to game systems. If you can trade in all your 360 gear and your blu-ray player and games and get a new PS3, ask yourself if it is worth it. Are you trading in 8 360 games, a blu-ray player, a 360 system, and 2 controllers for just 1 PS3, 1 controller, and 2 games? Then it might not be worth it.

Again, my opinion is swayed by my personal preference for PS3, of course.

Rented MW2 over the weekend since I'm too poor to buy it right now. Holy fucking shit am I impressed. I played about two levels of the campaign, but once I went online I never looked back. I started out rocking approximately a .2 KDR, but I got up to around 1.25 by the time I finished. Made it to level 40 in 3 days. The bad news is I totally neglected a shitload of schoolwork I had to do this weekend, but I'd do it again given the opportunity. Once Christmas comes and I inevitably get this, my life is over.

    Here was my setup:

    SCAR-H w/ extended mag
USP w/ FMJ (trying for tac knife, but I didn't use the pistol nearly often enough)
    Semtex
    Stun
    Sleight of Hand Pro
    Cold-Blooded Pro
Ninja Pro (Heartbeat sensors cause me to rage bigtime, sometimes I'll go Steady Aim)
    Killstreaks: Predator, Harrier, Chopper Gunner

    Edit:

I own both systems, and the key for me is XBox Live. Yes, you have to pay for it, but the sheer number of players you have access to compared to the PS3 is what does it for me. My connection also seems to be more stable on Live than it is on the PSNetwork.

i'm trying to get extended mag for my SCAR but I can't kill anyone with the FMJ. What is the key? You can only shoot them when they are behind a wall?

Yeah, but if you actively try to find people to kill behind objects its going to take forever. Just play the game, and as your shooting and tracking people eventually you will tag em when they hide behind cover.

And extended mags is retarded to me. SCAR has a 20 round clip and you get 3 clips. With the extended mags you get 2 30 round clips... I keep FMJ and stick with the scars iron sites because they are badass.

Yea, just play and it'll come. I think I got it in about 4 hours. I'm pretty sure I subconsciously try to wall people from my CS 1.6 days though.

Speaking of CS...how does MW2 get away with obviously ripping off CS levels and everything? Most of these levels are BASICALLY CS levels. Which I love because I didn't feel totally lost when I started playing.

Maybe it's just been too long (2+ years at least), but what maps are you claiming are ripped from CS?

Main one I can think of is Estate, which is kind've similar. Maybe Favela, Invasion, or Skidrow have Dust or Dust2 similarities.

I still think MW2 maps = CS maps is a pretty ridiculous.

EDIT - Just thought of one more, didn't CS have an airport map later on in the game? Could be like Terminal.

    For MW2:
I'm going to post something that I think will help people get a nuke. I've been getting 22 and 23 killstreaks and dying but I think this is the best idea I've come with to get it. You wouldn't believe how fast your heart beats when you're at 20 kills.

    Killstreak: Harrier --> Chopper Gunner/AC130 --> Nuke

The trick is to abuse One Man Army Pro to get the best of Hardline, Danger Close and Stopping Power. When I have 5 kills with Stopping Power, I switch to Hardline so that my next kill gives me a Harrier (and my ammo is replenished, no need for scavenger). Then I switch to Danger Close Pro and call in the harrier so that it deals extra damage. Then I switch to Hardline once it gets 3 kills (A total of 9 kills) so that the next kill gives me a Chopper Gunner. Then I switch to Danger Close Pro again so that my Chopper Gunner deals more damage. Get the idea?

    My custom classes:
    (1)
Primary: Your best assault rifle (with a silencer).
    Secondary: One Man Army Pro
Perk 1: One Man Army Pro
    Perk 2: Stopping Power
Perk 3: Ninja Pro, Steady Aim if automatic. Commando is also decent.

    (2)
    Primary: Same as above.
    Secondary: One Man Army Pro
Perk 1: One Man Army Pro
    Perk 2: Hardline
    Perk 3: Same as above.

    (3)
    Primary: Same as above.
    Secondary: One Man Army Pro
Perk 1: One Man Army Pro
    Perk 2: Danger Close
    Perk 3: Same as above.

L4D2 sales doing pretty fucking good.

Double L4D sales in less than two weeks? That's insane.

FMJ is the biggest pain in the ass weapon challenge there is, yet wholly necessary to get the weapon mastery challenge and the callsign.

As someone who is currently on his seventh weapon mastery challenge, the best level for FMJ leveling is Favela. The tin shacks and light brick make it relatively easy to get between 7 and 10 kills a map.

Very, very clever. I will try that out when I unlock one man army in another level or two. Thanks for the tip.

I think there a lot of good tips on here about MW2, but for some people who are new to FPS, some general tips can be really helpful. For instance,

-Its typical in a FPS to keep your gun trained at around the sternum level of other players as you come around corners or are just traveling in general. This way you only have to make lateral correction and the recoil of the weapon drags your reticle up towards the mid chest and head. Similar to real life, I find my first burst is often off-target and that the second and third seconds of the battle are where it is won or lost. The sprint option mitigates the advantage of this tactic a little in CoD, however its still pretty useful and sometimes making the conscious decision not to sprint everywhere and keep my reticle at chest height nets me a few extra kills.

-The exception to this would be with sub machine guns. I like to aim a little higher on my targets chest because of the smaller recoil and faster fire rate, hoping for the headshot.

    More specific

-Obvious one but similar to halo, crouching is a great way to sneak up on victims as lots of people (including me) keep their sound turned up to ridiculous levels to avoid being sneaked up on. Silent while crouching.

-Another obvious hint but most times when you are shot at going around a corner, the person is going to chase you. I mostly play free for all so this may be of limited use in team deathmatch, but the normal player will shoot after a fleeing target, keep their reticle trained on the spot as they slowly advance for 1-2 seconds, then start sprinting in hopes of catching the fleeing player. So stop when you go around the corner, wait 2 seconds, then pop out and blast them while they are in sprint mode. Flashbang + knife always make them feel stupid, as well.

Take those with a grain of salt as I averaged around a 1.45 ratio for my first 1200 kills or so but then took a week's break for finals. People got a lot better during that time and now I'm closer to a 1.25. Nowhere near my abilities in the first game. I'm sort of a runner and gunner which I perfected on the more linear mw1 maps but which hurts me in mw2 as people are not as familiar with these maps and campers abound. Fuck terminal.

P.S. Anyone else use the colt as their secondary of choice? I love the way it kicks in your hand, just like the CS Deagle. Plus blowing someone away with it as the final kill of the match is so satisfying. I always expect a tumbleweed to bounce across the floor in the replay.

If there is a way too make the game harder, please let me know. I'm playing the Hunter class and my sniper rifles are strong enough that I can one-shot baddies my level or one above with a headshot.

I like the game but there is little challenge in it.
