Steam has a big sale on good games right now. I just bought Borderlands with all the DLC for only $7.50 and then got Warhammer 40k Dawn of War 2 for 50% off.
Not sure if you found this out, but it's not true. Regular players of EVE will notice the inconsistencies and incorrect game mechanics. It's a nice bit of fiction, though. Spoiler "The entire concept of mining in Eve consists of pressing Ctrl + F..." - what is this, MS Word? "The warpgate was 15,000 meters away, I had to be within 800 meters to pass through it" - it's always been 2500 meters to jump through. "I did my research, and decided that the best ship for combat would be the Caldari Moa; it was fast, deadly, and had an armament approximately equal to the United States’ missile arsenal during the Cold War. Nuclear winter, here I come. I was going to pick it up from a guy named “OneEye Willie”, a hard boiled manufacturing magnate I met one day in IRC. Willie sold the ship equivalent of an Alienware computer; terribly overpriced, but outfitted with all the best decals... After an intense bout of haggling, some shouting on my part, and some screaming back on his, I worked him down to 35 million credits." - Moas are one of the worst cruisers in the game, always have been, and at their peak cost about 8 million credits. Oh, and EVE doesn't have "ship decals". "My engines were damaged and on fire, only operating at 1/3 capacity." - The game doesn't have "engine damage". "He placed the Moa in a trading window, and it was just as beautiful as I envisioned it. It had 3 long-distance laser racks, 2 high density missile bays, and an ECM ray to drain enemies of their ships’ energy." - ECM doesn't drain ship energy, that's an energy neutralizer. And anyone who fits lasers and missiles to a moa is a retard. I could go on, but effort... For something that is true (and awesome), check out The Heist. Guiding Hand Social Club is a recognized name in EVE to this day.
I was finally able to get the Uncharted beta to work and its been a lot of fun. So far, I've only been playing team deathmatch and there are a few things to note. At the beginning of each match you are paired up with a buddy for support. Staying together is not mandatory, but a nice benefit is that when you die you have the option of respawning on your buddy, instead of a random location on the map. Also, when you kill someone, there is a chance that they may drop a treasure. This treasure is only visible to you and your buddy, so if you die, your buddy can still grab it for you. Another new addition is the inclusion of Power Plays, which are periodically granted to the losing team for 60 seconds. If you are down by 5 kills, the top player on the opposing team is marked for everyone to see, with the mark being transferred to the nest highest player when he is killed. If you are down by 10 kills, the location of the entire enemy team is marked for all to see. You also have a lot of health in this game, which makes it possible to survive encounters where an enemy spots you first. For example, someone was shooting me while I was picking up a treasure, but I was still able to run behind a wall, throw down a grenade, and then kill the guy while he was stunned from the blast. However, the downside of the extra health is that pistols have become useless. The killstreak concept is present but doesn't rely solely on kills. You are awarded medals for doing various things (running X amount of meters, climbimg for X about of time, using cover, multikills, or X amout of kills by a specific method) and when you have enough medals, you can have a rocket launcher or some other benefit. Since multiple kills are needed for one medal, it doesn't make sense to camp for killstreaks because the match would probably be over before you got one. The download is around 2 gigs and the beta is open until July 13, but I definitely recommend trying it.
Stopped by GameStop today and got the kids the Sega collection. Sonic the Hedgehog, bitches! And, on the recommendation of this board, I picked up the first Uncharted. I've never played any of them before, so I started with the first one. Holy shit. It's like a fucking Indiana Jones movie or something. So far, I'm attacked by pirates, explored a buried city, went in a German U-boat, my partner is presumably dead, and I'm now fighting for my life. How did I not know about this game before??? Thanks for not letting me get any sleep tonight, this is AWESOME.
After almost five years of laptopping for school, I'm about ready to build a new desktop rig and get back into some light gaming. Looking at the selection of games over the last few years I find myself very disappointed in the selection of platformer/action-adventure type games in the mold of the Mario franchise or the Zelda franchise. I'm basically looking for games I can throw on a TV and sit on the couch and play with an XBox controller (the FPS/RTS/MMO type games I can find on my own) that have great gameplay and a fun environment. I'm also planning on emulating a Wii/Gamecube and possibly a PS2 (depending on how well it works) so anything for those systems as well works. My current list of games to play: -Mario Galaxy -Mario Galaxy 2 -Twilight Princess -Grand Theft Auto IV -Batman: Arkham Asylum -Shadow of the Colossus
Add New Super Mario Bros Wii and Donkey Kong Country Returns. They're both great, old-school-style sidescrolling platformers.
IGN's top 100 modern games: http://www.ign.com/top/modern-games/1 I'm glad they did a modern list. I get tired of "best-of" lists that have Tetris or Pong getting felated for their influence on the industry. And I can definitely agree with Mass Effect 2 being at the top of the list (although I would have been happy seeing Red Dead up there too). The only game in the top 10 that I haven't played is Bioshock. Is that something I need to make a priority?
Wow, that's a fucked up list. GTA 4 at #11? Super Smash Bros. Brawl at #10? Half Life 2 Episode 2 over Half Life 2? I see they're only counting the current console generation (360/PS3/Wii) as "modern"; it really seems like a waste of great games from the previous generation, and forces them to elevate games that don't deserve to be as high as they are.
Yes, especially with the amazing-looking Bioshock Infinite coming out. I'm in the middle of playing Bioshock 2 right now (I had other things to play back when this was released and this is the first I've gotten around to it) and it is almost as fantastic as the first one.
Just an FYI: Best Buy has Fallout: New Vegas on sale for $9.99 with in store pickup right now. Sadly, they're out of stock at my local store which pisses me right the fuck off.
As soon as I read this, I dropped EVERYTHING I was doing (read: nothing) and got in my car. My Best Buy is literally around the corner from my house. According to the guy at customer service, I got the very last copy for Xbox, which was in the back being reserved for an employee. Like a BOSS!
] I just got this along with another game at blockbuster for $14.99 today. BOGO $14.99 and under through tomorrow.
Bought the Assassin's Creed pack. Can't wait until 1 PM tomorrow. Fingers crossed for GTA IV or Portal 2 being like 80% off.
Why would they discount games I already own?! I fucking hate Steam. It's like crack for nerds. So far I've only limited myself to cheap indie/old games, but I know by July 10 I'll have no money left.
For the 3 or 4 of you who own a 3DS like I do... Played Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D yet? I've only played about 10 missions so far and I haven't tried to play online, but the game seems like it's going to be pretty fun. No goddamn idea why Leon's not in the game, though. Capcom saw fit to include Rebecca Chambers and Barry Burton, but not Leon Kennedy. Seems kind of ridiculous.
