I can't help but wonder if they're going to do this for the American version. It is supposed to come out Tuesday, but I'm betting we'll have a copy at the video store I work at today or tomorrow, so I plan to take it home and play it pre-street date, just out of curiosity.

Just saw the Beta on the PSN. Downloading now. I'll probably suck at first like you said but can't wait to play it

Played the beta a bit, some thoughts:

-Very buggy, even for a beta. Whenever I was in a building went to look through the window the screen whites out randomly. Sometimes it didn't go back and I had to suicide out of it. But again, it's a beta.
-The gameplay is very very solid. The weapons, movement, and pacing are great with noticeable improvements on BC2.
-Graphics look great, I can't wait to see em when they're fully rendered.

I have the beta on the PC and one of the dev's from DICE was giving out the password for their locked servers of caspian border which is the large vehicular map in the trailer. Very nice, the weapons on each vehicle are satisfying to shoot. The helicopter controls seem a little weird to me, I'll have to spend some more time trying to fly them.

I tried out the battlefield beta yesterday on the PS3. I have little experience with modes designed around objectives, but I had fun with it. I didn’t really like the first and last sections of the map, but the middle sections in the subway are always so intense.

This is my first battlefield game so it took a while to figure out how to respawn on teammates or realize that attackers have limited respawns. I’m trying to get into the habit of moving around the map with a teammate, but I also like to break away and try to flank opponents when they start expecting attacks from a particular spot. I really like how effective handguns are and tend to use the recon class to give me some long distance attack options as well.

Can someone tell me how to use rocket launchers? I think I unlocked them on my engineer class, but don’t know how to select them.

It's the left button on the Dpad. I've been using the assault class mostly but don't really get what the point of the medi packs are? It seems that I die almost immediately after getting shot(it also seems like the enemies I shoot take 5x more bullets).

Try throwing them down in spots you'll stay at for more than a few moments. I use them all the time and they are great to heal from a quick shot after I dodge/prone to recover and prepare to return fire. You just have to know how to use them properly. Also, I have found that the engineer class (with the M4) works far better in the first 3/4 of the map. I save the M16+ACOG with semi-auto (down on the dpad to change rate of fire) for the final portion when I'm assaulting to camp the defender's spawn from the third floor of the buildings with medic kits.

I just realized that I haven't had to defend the final portion of the map as the terrorists in days. I guess that's what happens when you constantly get 30-40 kills per game. This map definitely promotes lone wolf shit.

Tonight was my first time playing any Battlefield game. I was woefully bad. I can't read the map. I have no idea what any of the controls are besides point and shoot. It takes me a second to process whether I'm looking at a friend or foe. Time to do some internet research on this before going back in and being a complete albatross to my team.

Thanks for the help guys. I’m having a better time with the game now that I can use the abilities of each class.

I would expect Rush to be the least appealing game type, but I’m really enjoying it. Defending is easier, but even if we’re losing, it’s interesting to see what strategy the opponents are using and try something similar when I’m on the attack. Some guys are pros and know how to destroy parts of the environment for advantages. One team was blowing down trees near objectives and hiding in them to pick us off. The retail version will also have a team death match mode, so I think I’ll pre-order this to get the extra map pack.

The controls take some getting used to. The melee is slow and leaves you open if you get the stealth kill animation, so don't bother with it. Grenades are powerful, but remember that you can't cook them. For now, just try to stay close to teammates until you get more comfortable with the map.

A few more thoughts after about 10 hours of play:

-For a demo/beta map, this map sucks. I think it's the first BF game where they didn't do a Conquest map as a demo map. Rush is retarded anyway, but this map is particularly horrible for a first map and it's very easy to get gunned down constantly as there are many straightaways. The Recon class also has a heavy advantage in this map. A prone sniper in bushes somewhere is basically completely invisible.

-Theres a major bug when you're prone you see under the ground or the ground shakes. Plus, what the fuck is up with the sprinting?

-They keep mashing together class abilities every game. So now assault is a medic again? The support class can (once again) rearm itself? Pick how the classes should be and stick with it. Also, the unlock system is retarded. So you not only have your unlocks by class, but also by which side your on? Cmon...

-The additions of the flashlight and laser blindness are interesting. I thought they were cheap at first, but it's actually kind of cool.

-I enjoy how teamwork is much more heavily focused, even more so that BC2, in which you could still be an effective lone wolf. But the downside is, if your squad sucks and doesn't know how to play their class, forget it.

All I've done is lone wolf in the beta and I tend to have the highest score by far. More than a handful of times have I single handedly taken or defended objectives or wiped entire squads. Granted, most people in this beta are horrible, but you can still do tons of damage by yourself. I think that this may not apply to Conquest this time around, though.

    Additional thoughts:

    - I've been seeing in a lot of forums/discussions that people don't like the map. For me, being a newbie at this game I like the map, it's gorgeous anyway, although I have nothing to compare it to besides COD maps.

-Definitely some major bugs. In the first section of the map near Objective A theres an area where you dip into the ground every time and it is a bitch to get out, I've gotten killed being stuck in there a couple times. The area is pretty hard to avoid too since it is directly next to the objective. Also, sometimes I cannot sprint and sometimes I cannot ADS, are they going to be able to fix these bugs in the time before the game releases?

    - As far as unlocks go, please god tell me the AK-47 is not the only gun I will be able to use as a defender in the assault class? The recoil on that thing is very hard to correct and has little range. Everything I unlocked Friday night was reset Sunday when I got back on, I know that won't/shouldn't happen in the real game but did any one else experience this?

    - If your teammates suck, you're pretty much helpless. I never see anyone else throwing out medipacks or ammo packs and the last couple games I played the enemy team just ran all over us. The only thing I could do was try to hold an area down and throw out medipacks as my squad spawned around me trying to cut down on my own deaths as much as possible.

Overall I am definitely loving this, and if people who are fans of the game think the Beta is only mediocre, I cannot wait to see how the finished product looks and plays. I love the change of pace from COD which I am used to, almost to the point that I might be picking BF3 up instead, but of course my mind changes on that stance every week so who knows.

EDIT: One more thing: I HATE that there aren't killcams. 95% of the time I die I have no idea how, which is very frustrating to me seeing as how I don't know how to correct my mistakes if I can't see what I did wrong. The close up on the guys chest just doesn't cut it.

This I disagree with. I hate the "killcam" they have now. Well, maybe I don't, because nobody that I kill seems to realize how to use it properly. When someone kills me, I figure out the general direction from where the bullets came from, and then use the small glimpse of the surrounding the guy is running around or camping by, and I can more often than not determine where the douchebag is. Once you figure out the map, it's easy.

So, BF3. This game is awesome. Can't wait for the release, I consider the beta my BF tutorial.

My first kill was on that grassy park area. I noticed a silhouette in the distance and decided to squeeze a few rounds that way. Got a headshot, giggled and then realized I was hooked. Loving the character animations and destructible environments, too.

I have ~12 hours played on the BF3 Beta and am loving it. Ignoring things Beta related(glitching ect.), the only issue I see is Claymores. Yes, there are claymores in BF3. I unlocked them last night, and completely destroyed the other team. There are no red lines like COD, they are small, and they are the same color as the floor. They probably won't be as effective on the larger maps, or when people get used to them, but they feel very cheap right now.

I am the proud owner of Dark Souls. I also pussed out and got the strategy guide. I figure if it's harder than Demons Souls, I'll go a week without the strategy guide, wait for the wife to file for divorce, then open the guide.

Loading it up right now! I'm so excited!

I too am a proud owner, though I will have to wait until 3pm to get a fix. I however am not a pussy and know about Gamefaqs if I need help, but for the most part I'm gonna avoid any help/spoilers and just get my ass kicked around for a few hours and learn, since from what I've read that's about the only thing that will help you get better.

You'd be surprised. They were incredibly effective in Battlefield 2 on the big maps like Karkand (which is coming with BF3 also). They were great in doorways or stairwells.

On an unrelated note, Arkham City comes out two weeks from today. I'm starting to wish I didn't preorder on Amazon so I could go to the midnight release. I'm going to be dying all day the 18th.
