Wow, this game is just gorgeous. Is it just me, or is it prettier than Demons Souls? I like the fact that they kept the controls largely the same.
Yeah, I think the game looks better, but at the same time I've noticed some frame rate lag. Then again, all those long load screens in Demon's Souls are gone, so I can't complain too much. My only other minor qualm is that I feel like my character moves slightly slower. The dodges are just a little bit slower than they were in Demon's souls, and it is throwing me off. I bought the Collector's Edition, and I am having major issues downloading the strategy guide. This is one of the few games I'd actually use a strategy guide, because I know there is just so much little stuff to take advantage of. I've started playing through without it, though, and I am getting killed consistently. Pretty much what I expected, there.
Might be the amount of armor your guy has on, I remember your encumbrance and weight of your armor slows you down when it comes to rolls and recovering. I'm loving the open world aspect versus the Nexus in Demon's Souls. The bonfire system is just genius and really forces you to weigh how much you need Estus flasks as opposed to every enemy respawning. Maybe it was because of the gift I picked to start out with, but I greased the first boss like it wasn't no thang and got a wicked hammer that I currently don't have the strength yet to wield. However I would like to give a big shout out to the Taurus Demon, yeah fuck you ya cunt! Found an awesome 2h sword and 1h sword, I will spoiler it for those looking to explore on their own, however the 1h is so rawdog and ass kicking you'd be doing yourself a disservice by not having it. Spoiler Got the 2h at the back of the Graveyard where the annoying skeletons form, best way to get it is to use the secret path just after the guy who offers you to join the Way of the White. The 1h takes a little time but is well worth it. After you beat the Taurus Demon you'll meet the Dragon who likes to burn the bridge, if you run like hell you can get under the bridge. From there, find the vantage point (it'll be the one with messages all over it) use your bow and/or crossbow and shoot his tail like 15-20 times
I'm in a bit of a conundrum on this one. I was planning on getting Arkham City on PC since I can still use my wired xbox controller to play it, my PC is connected to my 42" TV, and I imagine it will look much better on my PC. However the PC release date has been pushed back to November, and I'm not sure I'll be able to wait. Not sure what to do.
Sent a rep but just realized something after I did. Wouldn't playing a PC game on a massive screen reduce the framerate, as going from 1680x1050 to 1920x1080 would? If that's the case, I think playing on Xbox would just make more sense. Plus, fuck waiting until November. That's when you should be playing BF3 until your eyes bleed.
Anyone thinking of buying Rage? I've heard generally positive reviews (4/5 from X Play, 8.5/10 on IGN, etc). X Play did saw the final 1/3 was disappointing though and that it had one of the worst endings/final levels ever. In light of that, I feel like the first 2/3 must be stellar to overcome such a harsh criticism. Nevertheless, I think I'm going to try and rent it because I'm willing to bet it'll be $15-20 cheaper by mid-November with Batman, BF3 and MW3 all coming out soon.
I thought about it, then I looked at all the damn upcoming releases and told myself whichever came out reviewed better between Rage and Dark Souls was the one I was going to get. Dark Souls deservedly won. One reviewer likened the lack of boss fights and the end to "Star Wars ending right after Obi-Wan deactivates the tractor beam". That didn't help it's cause.
Not sure if the connection was bad, not sure if it is the game, not sure if my eyes don't work. But I died way too many times by non-snipers, and didn't see who the hell was shooting at me. I was trying to go cover to cover creepy mode too. Didn't work. The Subway level is cool as fuck though. And on the small maps and the fact 3 bullets kill you, I don't get how this teamwork thing is much different than COD. Definitely on the huge maps, but small maps, you just can't run into the enemy team guns abalazing and expect to come out.
Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine - Heard generally good reviews and Redbox didn't have anything better so I picked this up. It is a third person melee/shooter where you play a space marine fighting against an ork (yes, with a K) invasion. Kind of a response to the popularity of cover based shooters, you're actually encouraged to go out and meet the enemy head on. The way you regain your health is by doing a melee combo attack. I've been really burned out on cover based shooting, particularly the Rockstar version where you don't even have to aim and it's damn near impossible to die, so this appealed to me, to an extent. However, I don't get the point of the melee health regeneration and then have several areas where you're in a distanced gunfight. I suppose it amps up the difficulty, but I find it rather annoying and antithetical to what they were trying to encourage. The melee controls pretty well and the fighting is fun, but it got repetitive after a bit. Also the scenery is just kind of meh. All in all, I'd recommend renting before you buy.
Just a guess, but the way Space Marines operate in the Warhammer world is all about morale, so much so that it doesn't seem entirely far-fetched for them to feel revitalized after brutally murdering an enemy in hand to hand combat. I could be wrong, but it rings true for me.
Just a heads up since I know people on here have talked about Assassins Creed:Brotherhood. Gamefly has it used for $15 right now. I've gotten games from them before and they've been in pretty much new condition.
This game would be the best $20-$30 as a dollar game. I played the demo, I loved it. Paying more than 35 dollars for it is a waste. Just not enough flexibility and "oh here is this cool new thing you can do now" to it. Its basically a Gears of War Melee edition that's also on PS3 and of course not as epic. The sequel should be better. How is everyone feeling about LoL Dominion? I've gotten into the mix. I can't say I'm in love with the gameplay. I like the winning, but killing isn't as enjoyable.
This is what I've mainly been playing now. With Singed I pretty much always solo the bottom and enjoy it. I mainly choose it since the game time is so much less and I can get more in when I get a chance to play. It always seemed with SR when I was hoping for a quicker game is when I'd hit those 70 minute ones.
I too preordered from Amazon. They are offering a $10 credit and a free Batman comic book, not that I needed incentive to preorder in this instance. I'm a huge fan of their preorder credits. In fact, I used the $20 that I earned from the Gears 3 preorder towards Arkham City. The cellophane still hasn't been cracked on Gears 3 though. We just moved and I'm not even sure where the 360 is right now. The PS3, on the other hand, was buckled into the passenger seat on the first trip. I have serious doubts that Gears will be opened before Arkham's arrival. Fuck that noise. You have fun with that. We'll let you know how it is.
Dark Souls is thoroughly and repeatedly kicking my ass all over the place. Moving around really is much more slow going and trial-and-error than Demon's Souls ever was. Related note: Fuck those assholes that curse you, and fuck them for making it so hard to heal from it. Fuck them all.
I'm noticing the Z targeting isn't working the way it did in Demon's Souls. I click on a target, but then can't move the targeting from enemy to enemy. Anyone else noticing this? Supposedly you're able to do this by moving the right stick. I do that, and nada. And yes, this game is kicking my ass. Much tougher than the original, and I haven't even thought about all the online/covenant shit yet.
I've noticed it, too, and it is kind of annoying. I end up having to click off one guy to target another, which in turn slows me down a bit. I've also noticed that, as I advance, there are way, way fewer online players. I just entered into the depths, and I've literally not seen one single summon sign (when I am human). I've also left my summon sign repeatedly, and only been summoned twice. Given how ungodly hard the depths have been (let me reiterate: fuck those assholes that curse you), I cannot believe I can't find anyone willing to try to help. I want to help to earn some souls/humanity. I'm not that highly leveled, and I know that is a factor, and also that the game is fairly new, but I am barely scratching the surface, no way I am ahead of most other players.
Maybe you are that far ahead, I've been getting my ass handed to me by the Gargoyles in the Undead Parish, can't seem to get past it last night and tonight.
