About 10 hours if not more of streaming to go from the perspective of a few different people to show off different characters and play styles. They are playing on Xbox and are describing some of the issues compared to PC. I'll definitely be getting this on PC.
I admit it, the hype has gotten to me. I'm going to see if any nearby Redbox's have Skyrim tomorrow. I don't know why. I hated Oblivion, but oh well.
I already know that the first hour of Skyrim will be spent on character creation while I flip back and forth between all the options. I'm still trying to decide what kind of character to play. Heavy armor tank type, ranger type, theif type, full mage, mage/sword hybrid...it's a tough call, I remember being all over the place in Oblivion.
Yeah, me too, and it's frustrating. Same thing in Dark Souls, so far I went with a wanderer/quick and light type. Skyrim? Yeah, no fucking clue how I'm approaching it, but I did just get back from paying for it. 12:01. Tick Tock. Yup, I'm not getting laid for several weeks. I'm ok with that.
Okay, I've seen entirely too much talk of this game not to ask: Is it first person? I've seen play-videos of Oblivion, and it was all in the 1st person view. I ask because this looks like the exact kind of game I would love, but I can't play first-person games due to the incredible motion sickness I get.
In both Morrowind and Oblivion there is a third person camera view as well as first person. Not sure about Skyrim but I would imagine they would keep that option.
You can play in first or third person. And from what I've heard, third person has been improved since Oblivion/Fallout.
Steam is in some shit. Huge hacking info released. Possibly ALL users CC info stolen, all passwords stolen. <a class="postlink" href="http://www.tomshardware.com/news/Steam-Hacking-Gabe-Newell-Database-Credit-Card,13967.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.tomshardware.com/news/Steam- ... 13967.html</a>
SKYRIIIIIIIIIIIM! I'm now going to take forever to make my character look exactly like me. Just like I did 5 years ago in Oblivion. I will never get laid.
So today for me is going to be nothing but Skyrim and Old Republic beta once 6:00 hits and the servers open for weekend testers. On another big nerd note, here's the Zelda review. Looks like I'll actually be turning my Wii on this year: <a class="postlink" href="http://wii.ign.com/articles/121/1212220p1.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://wii.ign.com/articles/121/1212220p1.html</a>
I think I'm going to be holding off a little bit before I get Skyrim. Specifically I want to get some feedback regarding the platforms because I'm still undecided. I played Oblivion on xbox but am wondering if it will run better on the PS3.
<a class="postlink" href="http://login.ign.com/prime/promos/swtor-beta/?display=notAuth" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://login.ign.com/prime/promos/swtor ... ay=notAuth</a> If you're a paid IGN Prime member you can get a free beta key for Old Republic and join me waiting in a 5000 person queue to get on a server.
Playing Skyrim right now, and its pretty amazing. Superior to Oblivion in every way. I cannot wait to see the next Fallout game with this graphics engine, which will hopefully arrive within the next year, although 2013 is probably more realistic.
Finally had some time with The Old Republic beta now that the server queues weren't over 1000 people as they were last night. I played a Sith Inquisitor, although it seems that each faction has identical classes but are named differently. I only made it to about level 8 before deciding to stop playing, as I would no way have enough time during the weekend beta to make it out of the boring low level starting areas. Here are some brief thoughts on the game, feel free to ask any specific questions as I'll be able to give better feedback in that fashion then just going off the top of my head. It felt very much like a mix of KOTOR and WoW. When talking to npcs, you get the option to choose your dialogue just like other Bioware games. Apparently, some of these choices has consequences but I just spammed the space bar and skipped all the chat as I do in all MMOs. I don't care about story in MMOs and that is a big factor on my hesitation to want to buy the game come launch. Keybindings, camera control, just about all things UI are identical to WoW, aka the typical MMO control layout. They added a lot of convenience features, such as built in quest tracking on your map to tell you exactly where to go. This is a great feature that took WoW years to implement, as I especially don't have to pay attention to the quest dialogue to do what I need to. I only made it to level 8, but the game feels just as grindy as any other MMO. I seem to be the minority but I tend to hate the leveling part of a game, as I feel it is just a time sink until you reach endgame and the game actually begins for you. I'm not a huge fan of doing quest after quest, but that's what leveling seems to be (it may be different at higher levels, but highly unlikely). Again, this isn't a negative, it's just what MMOs are during the leveling phase. The Old Republic will very likely become a big success due to all the Star Wars fans and the fact that this game feels extremely polished. I experienced no real lag during this stress test and my ping was an astonishing 40. I will probably pick this game up and give it a chance at launch, despite my wariness about how the endgame will play out. I haven't followed the game much so if anybody knows more about endgame, feel free to inform. Sorry for the shitty post, I'm not the best at writing a review.
I rented Skyrim yesterday and played for something like 8 to 10 hours I estimate. I chose to be an orc warrior. Not the most original race/class combo, but I like being able to wear heavy armor, run recklessly straight into danger and hack my way out. Orcs are also better at smithing, which I've used to my advantage by improving upon my gear (though I've yet to have an opportunity to actually create anything better than what I was already wearing). Unfortunately heavy gear also means I used a lot of my carrying quota on my armor and weapons so sometimes I have to drop items if I see something new and heavy that I want to carry around for a bit. If you want a long, purple review, I agree with almost everything in this one from G4's Adam Sessler. I'm not going to be so elegant. First, I've begun to really enter the heart of the story, and it is pretty engaging. Side quests seem to be those in name only as they can be pretty difficult and take you to the far corners of the map. The aesthetics are fantastic. You visit so many landscapes and they are vibrant and quite detailed. It also does a great job with shadows in caves, which is good because I've spent a long time in caves thus far. The world is quite big, but I never feel that anything is unreachable beyond a day's journey and there's more to do than just wander. You come upon NPC's pretty regularly, some good some bad, as well as other hazards. In Oblivion I felt like I was just walking and walking and walking, with no real idea where I was going and why. This didn't feel like that at all. I purchased a horse and kind of feels like it's a waste right now. It does not seem much faster than just running and you can't spam the action button to collect alchemy materials. Combat seems pretty similar to Oblivion. Easy to an extent, depending on the number and type of enemies. The game is not without its problems however. The first thing you'll notice are loading screens. They are rather prevalent and just take you out of the experience. The major problem is going to a city where entering and exiting every individual house requires a loading screen. Kind of annoying to suffer through a load just for some 2 room house. Thankfully they make sure most of the NPC's are out and about during the daytime and you only have to enter places for specialized needs, such as going to an enchanter's table. There are also a number of bugs. The scenery will be washed here and there. Also, the NPC's like to teleport at times, magically going from one end of a room to another in an instant. Nevertheless, the pro's of this game are so enormous that not only do you feel the cons are forgivable, they almost seem expected as a way because you have to think that not everything can be perfect. I'm actually sad that I loved this game so much b/c now I want to purchase it, but I haven't even put a dent into MW3 yet in addition to my new game+ on Arkham City. I think I have to though. 10 out of 10. If you're still unsure, visit a Redbox and rent it for a day. My little town had 3 Redbox's within two miles of each other that had it, so I doubt you'll have a hard time procuring a copy. Giving it back will probably be the most difficult part. EDIT: For those playing, do you actually read all the books laying around? I look at them quickly because they can contribute to my skills at times and even add new quests, but I feel like I'm missing out for not taking the couple minutes to read them. It just seems like there are SO MANY.
Everyone I know can go fuck themselves in the face for at least a week when Assassin's Creed: Revelations comes out on Tuesday

Don't know if they'll do that for Black Friday stuff however.
Almost every Skyward Sword review is saying it's basically the best Zelda game ever. I was ready to pass this one up, just because I have so many older games to play through and was planning on picking up Skyrim this week, but looks like it'll be sucking me back in.
