As did I, but I only made it 2 hours in on Sunday. I agree, though, that the game starts just like every other modern Zelda title... Goddamn slow. It's good, but I'm ready for shit to actually pick up now. The game needs an "I've played a Zelda game before" option.
So I impulse-bought a refurbished wii with my girlfriend today, mostly because her roommate's is dead and their house is netflix-deprived. Went on the shop to pick up Super Mario World and, lo and behold, managed to get Sonic 2, Super Mario 64, Ocarina of Time for free somehow - they were listed as "downloadable" and didn't cost me a dollar. I thought that the shop downloads were one time only, but is it possible that it's letting me re-download games the previous owner had? Or is it some ninja black Friday wii deal on all the awesomest shit? Either way, very cool and if the former, very lucky.
So I picked up Mortal Kombat. Not going to lie, I fucking button mash. Wondering if there are any seasoned fighters who can help with the learning curve. Stick with one fighter until you got enough combos down? Any helpful hints would be nice.
I gave up after 2 hours. It is not the Mortal Kombat I remember. It may be better. But I didn't enjoy it as much as I used to.
Start with the challenge tower. You learn the basic specials and combos of every fighter. Then decide on who felt most comfortable and try beating the arcade mode with him or her.
Eh play the storymode. It's fucking awesome and its actually makes you learn most of the characters. You'll get in at least 3 fights with a majority of the characters and each fight requires you to win in a different way. It's not a thing where it'll say "You have to win this way" but you can tell fighting the AI, that you'll need to switch up your play style. I fucking love that game. I'm actually going to play now. Iczorro, I'm judging you harshly now.
Ok, so playing as a stealth character in Skyrim is a bad idea when you're initially unfamiliar with how the game works, so I started a new one as a warrior, a king, a barbarian CONAN!
Saint's Row the third I'm surprised there hasn't been more chatter about this game, in terms of pure fun it's probably my favorite in a long time. It's basically a GTA rip off with a wide array of RPG like features, but totally over the top in the best way possible. Highly recommended for those who like GTA but thought GTA IV was a bit lacking after playing San Andreas. Saint's Row 2 is good and downloadable to PS3 for only $20, if you like this style of game I'd suggest starting with that. I made the mistake of playing 3 first and just can't accept the deficiencies of 2 despite it being objectively a very good game.
Saints Row 2 was the game GTA4 should have been - rediculous, over the top, insane, and actually fun. I've been trying to keep my head down on SR3, because I am broke/saving to move out of my parents basement, and have Skyrim, Deus Ex, and if I buy it , Skyward Sword to beat.
So while out shopping yesterday afternoon we saw that gamestop was giving a $70 discount for a DS Lite trade-in towards a 3DS bundle. After talking to the Girlfriend we decided to dig up my old DS Lite and trade it in, so I now have a 3DS along with the new 3D Mario Land and Ocarina of Time. I've been wanting to get one for a while but couldn't justify the purchase due to a lack of interesting games, but $130 for the system and what seems to be it's best game out at the moment? Deal. Now I just hope a few more good games come along to really make the purchase worth while...
I want to slap whoever idea it was to drop the fucking character creator as the goddamn demo. Fucking really? Not even the tutorial, THE FUCKING CHARACTER CREATOR! With that said, its a pretty bad ass character creator. I made a topless hispanic chick with pasties, a devil-heart thong and thigh high red boots. BUT STILL!
You're getting the stuff that the previous owner bought before. Wii's have "friend codes" and that is how they are identified online. There is only one code per system, so once you sell your system, you're also selling all the stuff you've ever bought on that Wii. If I sold my Wii today, I'd also be selling about 20 downloaded games. Also, once you delete something, you can re-download it. Nintendo had to do this due to their limited hard drive space on the system. Early on, people were complaining that they'd download games, and then run out of hard drive room to save new games, so Nintendo made it so they could delete the games they weren't playing and re-download them later (even later than that, they made it so you could save and load games from an SD card). Look through and see what else you might be able to get for free. Why pass it up? As for Zelda, the slow start is my issue with a lot of Zelda games. I felt like Ocarina of Time got you into the first dungeon pretty quickly, but every game since then has just been ungodly slow. Twilight Princess took forever just to get out of the initial village. It shouldn't take me ten hours to get to the first dungeon when said dungeons are the primary reason we play the games.
Fucking fuck, this game is like one giant Easter egg after another. I don't want to give too much away, but there's a part where you are hacking people limb from limb with a chainsaw with "you're the best around" playing as you do it. Perfect execution.
Broke down and bought a 3DS last Friday. Gamestop was giving a $70 trade in value towards the Mario 3D Land bundle for trading in my old DS Lite. I figured $140 for a 3DS and what seems to be one of it's best games was a good deal. My girlfriend also chipped in to buy Ocarina of Time and a couple little puzzle games that she used to play on PS2 all the time. It's fun, and the 3D effect is pretty cool. The biggest gripe being that there is a lack of good games definitely seems to be true. Mario 3D Land is fun, and from what I hear it gets much better when the difficulty ramps up, but I don't really see a whole lot beyond that right now. Really my only other gripe is that with the 3D you have to be looking directly at it and keep your head and the screen perfectly in sync at that angle. Even the small movements I make while pressing buttons seems to be too much at times, which is a real pain. I think it will be worth it in the end though, especially once some better games start coming out.
Skyrim's theme song is the shit. Killing a dragon with it playing feels way more epic than otherwise. Spoiler
I just watched both of the trailers for Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning on PS3 and for the first time about an Action Adventure RPG, I got fucking excited. Everything about the game looks fresh. Here is a preview on IGN. The game is beautiful, the story is written by R.A. Salvatore, the preview highlights solid execution of gameplay and high detail. The combat looks fucking sick. You're knocking up enemies with a real sword, pulling out a magic axe to hack them back down. I got a huge nerd boner. Anyone else heard of this?
My brother demanded I borrow his copy of Assassin's Creed 2 and give it a try. I've watched him play it, and it looked alright, but I let it sit around for a couple weeks before I got around to trying it last night. Holy shit. I was up late just getting lost in this game. The story is gripping, the gameplay is just awesome, and the city is amazingly rendered. The only complaint I have is that the free-running and movement can be a bit irritating at times. Instead of naturally dropping off a ledge, I have to repeatedly press B; when running from guards, I often end up jumping back into their midst off of a ledge or post instead of free-running to the next available point. That said, I think this is mostly a matter of play style/getting used to the movement, and player error respectively. All in all, I'm fucking addicted.
I just be ACII Friday night. The ending is definitely WTF. I like how boss fights don't always have to end up with you fighting some huge fucking monster. Going to pick up AC:BR really soon. I love the storyline of this game.
I hate to make another post just for this, but Mario's introduction was awesome. Sounded just like SM64: It'sa ME, MARIO!".
