I'll second this; I'm not much into FPS titles, but Tribes: Ascend is the best game in the genre I've seen in many years. While there is a leveling up system and you have to buy various perks and abilities, there is also a great deal of skill involved, far moreso than CoD or Bad Company. In that sense, it reminds one of League of Legends. The combat is incredibly fast, frenetic, and satisfying. I love the speed of the units thanks to the skiing. On a totally different note, I agree with the sentiments expressed in this video;
Ouch. Removing one line of code in Mass Effect 3 grants you the Day 1 DLC that you would otherwise have to pay $10 for;
The fundamental conclusion of that video seems ridiculous to me, though. It's not like the DLC was made independent of Bioware being aware of it. So is it ridiculous that they would implement a few lines in the main game code to smoothly accommodate the character? Here's the thing: say that instead of calling it "DLC," Bioware said "For $X, you can obtain some of the additional features that were included in the Collectors Edition version of the game." Sounds less obnoxious, right? But isn't that exactly what they did?
The point is that Bioware categorically denied that the DLC was made at the same time as the game. That there was no way they could have made the DLC in time for certification (which is kind of bullshit, since certification occurs right before release date) and that it was developed by an entirely different group altogether. Since the DLC is on the actual disk and can be accessed by deleting a line of code, we can conclude that they're lying scumbags. I think the point is that unlike other day 1 DLCs (which I still consider obnoxious, but not to the same extent), this one was crucial to the main story. It wasn't an extra map for multiplayer, a set of cool costumes, or even a side-mission that had little to do with the main quest. No, it was ostensibly an important chunk of the main plot. Which they kept from the main game to squeeze out an extra $10 from the DLC.
"DLC is on disk" does not remotely follow from the available evidence. All that there is evidence for is that there exists code on the main disk to make the character compatible. All the evidence shows is that the details of the character are there. This doesn't imply (and EA has categorically denied) that the mission and other details are also there. As to the second point, I have the DLC... you and I must have very different definitions of "crucial" or "important." It's only those if you think you MUST know every single detail tangentially related to the story. Otherwise, it's just a kinda neat side detail.
But it does follow. If the character is included on the main disk (but hidden by a line of code) and the DLC comes out the same day as the game, isn't it logical to assume they were completed simultaneously? Since, you know, the main disk with the DLC character was the one being certified? Obviously Bioware and EA can't cop to gouging their fanbase for an extra ten bucks, as that would be a PR nightmare, something they've had a lot of in the last year. (Dragon Age 2 comes to mind) But that's exactly what they did. The previous video I posted by TotalBiscuit does a better job of explaining it than I can, but a DLC that explores one of the biggest, most intriguing mysteries in the franchise (the Prothean race) is a huge deal. You made an analogy to collector's editions, but in terms of in-game extras, those usually mean special items, different costumes and other cosmetic changes, a bonus map for multiplayer, etc. Rarely does it mean a large chunk of a story very closely related to the main plot. By the way, I like the concept of DLCs in general. But it was only a matter of time before they were abused. Day 1 DLCs are sketchy in general, but Bioware/EA is breaking new ground here.
Dont tell me there is another Baldur's Gate coming out. I thought when they did Amn, that was there last in the baldurs gate series.
All will be revealed. Personally, I'm just hoping for a graphically revamped version of the original(s).
The best Twitter troll I've seen so far regarding Mass Effect's ending: Spoiler Also, here are all the endings played side-by-side: Spoiler Thanks, Bioware.
That would be sweet, i have no idea where my copies of the originals went, i really want to play them now .... 15 seconds left
I wonder if they're going to switch up the ruleset, especially with WotC being part of it. I would be disappointed to see the 4E ruleset, but maybe this will be an ad campaign of sorts for 5E?
