I also liked FF9 for some reason. Of course nothing yet has come close to trumping 7. If they remade it with today's technology though, that would be so sweet.
I don't understand the recent FF's battle systems with the whole paradigm shifts and craziness going on. Way too complicated, why can't they just stick to old system of Materia and leveling that up?

Has anyone used Blizzard's digital downloader to get Starcraft 2, or pre order Diablo 3? I bought the digital copy of Starcraft 2 and tried to download it 8 times, every time it either stops at 2.3g and says "unable to authenticate download," or it downloads for 5 hours and THEN says the same thing.. Blizzard customer support is the worst I've ever encountered.

Please tell me one of you has encountered/fixed this problem.

You must have not played 12 FF then, after 12, they they definitely dumbed down XIII. They took the control of specific actions away. And they can't remake VII, some the main guy behind it left the company, and I don't know if it is a copyright thing and/or Japanese honor system.

Yeah, when it came to the final weapons of that game, I don't think I could get 15 lightning strikes, that shit was insane. I loved what they were going for, but fuck it. I liked the game, I liked the characters, the world was awesome, and Blitzball was the fucking shit. They had to take it out because nerds can't handle anything related to sports. When you got Tidus's super Cyclone kick (whatever it was called), you felt like a pro.

Also, after playing FFIX again, holy shit that game is hard. I'm in Ipsen's castle right now, out of the 4 types of monsters, I have to use magic on all of them as physical attacks do nothing. Plus one of the monsters has a 100% stop unless everyone has locomotion equipped.

Final Fantasy VIII is my favorite, as it was the first one I've played and the Guardian Forces (Summons) + Limit Breaks were the best. The GFs had the "Boosting" and all of the Limit Breaks except for maybe one or two requiring more than watching a 5 second movie. FFXII comes up second with having fun limit breaks.

I don't know why FF games don't really appeal to me. I feel like they should, but they don't. At least the modern ones do. Maybe I think they require too high an investment of time and mental energy or something? All I know is that I loved FF 2 for the SNES (which I think it technically FF 4 in the overal series) and have never gotten into any of the others for whatever reason.

I think Final Fantasy IV is probably my favorite out of the series. As with others and their favorites, it was the first that I managed to finish. I know I played the first one on NES, but like all old school Nintendo/Sega era rpgs, that shit was completely ball to the wall hard and I never got very far.

IX I always felt was pretty underappreciated. I say that, of course, I wound up never finishing the game. I replayed it multiple times, but always got hung up on that Chocograph game and never finished the main story. The same thing happened in XII, I got hooked on hunting marks and just never quite managed to finish the rest of the story. I always rationalized that I would easily be able to finish the last boss/bosses judging by which marks I was able to take down.

And yeah, I'll third/fourth/fifth/infinity billionth the love for Blitzball. Once you upgraded Jecht Shot to Jecht Shot 2, that was pretty much game over. Of course, it was still fun as hell running up the score on any team, especially the goddamn Al-Bed Psyches.

If I remember right, I only got the ultimate weapons for Titus, Yuna, Wakka, and Kimari. What I spent way too much time on, though, was getting the 'empty' weapons and all those random items so that you could add stat upgrades to them. I ended up with my main three guys having weapons that were even better than the ultimates. It was like they had the two stats that could break the HP and damage limit, and then auto haste and auto shell/reflect/whatever the defense spell was, that or the counter attack, and of course everyone had ribbons. It was ridiculous when even enemies like the ultimate weapons would attack me and do little to no damage, and then my guy would auto-counter for 99,999 damage. I'm pretty sure I don't have anywhere near as much patience to do that in a game these days.

I did just pick up Xenoblade Chronicles, but my girlfriends brother is staying with us all weekend, so I'm not sure if I'll really get any time to play until next week.

I just got in Reckoning: Kingdoms of Amalur. I love the game. I basically got to where I was in the demo. The only complaint I have about the game is the conversations with most NPCs so far are redundant. How many times can I ask about the same town and generally hear the same thing? I'm enjoying the combat as I'm playing on hard and will start running around doing everything. Best part is I got it from target and it came with the pre-order bonuses and the usual new game stuff. Sweet.

Kingdoms of Amalur has nice graphics and a lot of polish, but unfortunately, suffers from the same problem as most generic 3D action/adventure titles. Namely, the combat is boring and simplistic, and there is no challenge. The game is an absolute cakewalk, even on the highest difficulty, and with self-imposed handicaps on certain combos.

I told my fellow PS3 playing friend about Reckoning, he talked about the game for 20 minutes, pros and cons, then talked about how much better Skyrim was and stopped to say "Yeah couldn't be Skyrim though because it glitched out and I couldn't even play the game as it lagged to a stop." Did that ever get fixed on the PS3? Because a game that you can't beat isn't better than one you can...

So I am selling my old PS2, along with all the games. The system comes with a memory card, guitar controller for GH 1 and 2, and many, many games (including Final Fantasy X, X-2, and XII, all 3 Devil May Cry games, Guitar Hero 1 and 2, Kingdom Hearts 1 and 2, and about 10 more I can't name off the top of my head). The only downside is that the controller is broken (the analog stick is busted and constantly drags to the right if you use it), so the person buying it would have to buy a new controller.

I told my brother I'd sell it all to him for $40 (normally $50, but he has to buy the controller, so I deducted that from the price). He is thinking I am ripping him off. Opinions? A refurbished PS2 at Gamestop is $30, so I think he is getting a great deal, personally, but I am obviously biased. Any ideas?

Edit: Upon looking at GameStop prices, $40 is ungodly low. All this would be well over $100 there. Fuck, I may have to go the Craigslist route.

Apparently someone at Square Enix is listening to their millions and millions of fans worldwide. That's a guaranteed 100 hours out of my life. Still no word on the FF7 HD that everyone really wants though

Yeah. Your brother is wrong. I own a PS2 and that's a tempting deal just for the games.

Awesome, I knew they were doing this but I thought it was going to be a Vita only thing. I'm excited that it will be on PS3 as well.

If they were really listening they would take out that terrible laughing scene. Also count me in as another that spent way too much time on Blitzball. I re-started a million times to win the first game you play against the Luca team, and since I had the FFX strat guide I built the best team ever of all time, although I did keep my original goalie for nostalgia reasons, plus he was a baws.

Now if they re-released FFVI in some kind of HD I'd have to go home and lie down. FFIV has gotten so many re-releases and add-ons (Interlude, TAY) but FFVI doesn't? That's crap. I don't understand why people keep clamoring for FFVII to be remade when IMHO FFVI is much more worthy.

So, my girlfriends brother stayed with us this weekend, and Sunday he installed League of Legends on my PC and played it for a bit. I played a tutorial match against some bots while he was watching and giving me some pointers, and I gotta say it really makes me want to play that game.

I will say though that there is still that steep bar to entry (or however the fuck that phrase goes) in that there is a lot of knowledge and strategy needed to play this game, and I know I'm going to really suck at first. I've been reading some guides while at work, and with all the different terminology and acronyms thrown around they almost do the exact opposite of their intent.

Any of you guys that play have any pointers or advice for getting started? Best champion to start with? I can definitely see this being my kind of game if I could just get into it enough to enjoy it.

Pretty much just play it. You're guaranteed to suck at first. You need experience to be good in this game (know not only what you can and must do, but also what the enemy is capable of). Thankfully you won't hit max level soon so you'll have plenty of time to learn. Ashe is a pretty good starting point.

Wish we had a LoL thread, I keep posting the same 3 things. 1. Don't buy any runes until you're level 21. 2. Just keep playing. 3. Use Mobafire for masteries (as you get them), Skill progression, and Item builds. Reading the actual guides are too much. The game isn't THAT complex as everyone makes it to be. You'll honestly start copying what you see other people do, its natural.

Yeah, I think I was starting down the same path I took with Starcraft 2 in that I was trying to get too into the try-hard mode. When SC2 came out I was watching replay commentaries and working on different build orders and trying to get my clicks-per-minute up, instead of just playing and having fun. Need to not do that with LoL.

Yeah, but I'd play with every available champ once, and decide which one you like. You can support, tank, range fighter, melee fighter, caster mage, melee mage. Search this thread for "Javane" list of names should be on it. I'll play some games with you and toss out some tips in game. Don't go the try-hard route. It'll break your brain. But Mobafire.com sorting by score does have item builds and skill progression. But do not buy runes until level 21. Spend your IP on champs if anything, but only if you really like the champ, because they're only going to get better.
