In addition to whats been mentioned above, one of the things that I've loved about the 360 is some of the great XBL Arcade games that have been released, most of which are between $10-15. Some of the better ones include: Braid - A great puzzle game with fantastic art and music. (This one is also on the PS3 though) Shadow Complex - A 2D side scrolling shooter that is very reminiscent of Super Metroid or the Castlevania titles. Even though its a side scroller, the world is full 3D, and the production values are excellent for a smaller arcade title. One of my favorite games to come out this year. Penny Arcade Adventures - This was a pretty fun RPG that you would like if you've ever kept up with their webcomic. Part 2 just came out, but I havn't played it yet. Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved 2 Castle Crashers They have a bunch more available too of course, but thats just a few that I thought were worth mentioning.
I just did a Free for all match on MW2, and I'm pretty sure the game glitched up like mad. Was supposed to be a ffa on Karachi I think, but turned out to be a ground war on Rust with about 18 people playing team deathmatch. There also was no point limit, so the round lasted all 10 minutes and the top guys had around 90 kills. It was freaking nuts, multiple people were spawning on top of each other, explosions were all around, people everywhere. Anyone else have this happen to them?
What deal I should get for the 360 So being the nice brother I am, my younger brother wants to bring the 360 to college (He doesn't have any video game addictions or shit like that, I just made him keep it home first semester so he'd focus on school/making friends). I haven't brought the 360 to college either(sitting at home); I figured it'd detract from my grades. But I'm confident it won't now. So here's the thing: I'd like a 360 for Christmas--what Package should I get? Well, some of you might say it depends on how much I'd play, so I'll address that. About me: I'd play at most like an hour a day, probably would like to jump on MW2 for a couple of matches. Maybe on weekends I'd play like 2 hours, like Mass Effect 2 or Resident Evil. I like shooting games, and would need Xbox LIVE for this to even be a worthwhile buy. So: should I buy an arcade console in stores, and then buy a harddrive online? Or go with an elite console? 60 GB or 120GB--will I ever really fill either of them? I want to keep this close to a $300 buy, and I'd like 2 controllers and a wireless adapter so I can connect when I move out of the dorms (I can connect through Ethernet right now). Any chance I can keep it close to 300 with this criterion? Thanks for the help guys.
What the fuck? Are you reading the same site as everybody else? ActionButton is widely regarded as one of the most pretentious game journalism sites on the net. If you can call what they write journalism and not just the incoherent ramblings of Tim Rogers. (More on that in a second.) I mean, it took me all of ten seconds to find this gem: How in God's name do you not find that pretentious as hell? Tim Rogers, in particular, is one of the most pretentious game reviewers out there, in large part because he enjoys going off on wild fucking tangents about his own life that have absolutely nothing to do with his review and which he believes are absolutely fascinating for the reader. He also writes for Kotaku, where he's just as long-winded. Eloquent he may be, (and loves to remind everyone of it,) but a good writer he is not. He really needs an editor that's worth a damn, which neither ActionButton nor Kotaku provides him. On the other hand, Tom Chick, one of the examples you gave above, is one of the least pretentious writers I've read, in addition to actually being concise. That he didn't like Killzone 2 doesn't make him an elitist. Hell, he's infamous for having hated Deus Ex, one of the sacred cows of story-driven PC gameplay. Just because ActionButton writers prefer Halo over Bioshock doesn't mean they can't be just as much up their own asses when they write about it.
What happens when you do prestige? My little brother played the last few and said you start all over with nothing unlocked, so we have been just trying to complete the ak 47 and a few other guns before we get bored and do it. What perks or rewards do you get from doing this prestige shit?
You get another custom slot in Create a Class, that's it. EDIT - Oh and you get a new cool shiny emblem next to your name instead of the standard rank. I really wish you could pick 4 killstreaks or something like that, but that would get out of hand.
It also unlocks a host of challenges for each weapon and a special "Prestige" challenge section. You know someone is good with a weapon when you see those prestige weapon emblems.
Certain emblems and titles are only available after you prestige as well. You gain another custom class slot during prestiges 1, 3, 5, 7, and 9. I plan to do at least one for a little more variety in my custom classes, but I don't see myself ever going all the way to 10.
The crazy thing is that its groundwar but turns into free for all so you are killing teammates and enemies for the same points. I got 83 kills by running around holding down the fire button with an rpd and some guy got 168 kills with an ac-130. Anyone know how these glitched games come about?
To add on to the MW2 glitches, today I joined a Headquarters Pro match where everybody had unlimited ammo. That meant infinite grenade launcher, grenade, rocket launcher, and even AC-130 shell spam. It happened the next 3 games as well before I took a break. I don't know how this happened or if anyone else has experienced it but it is absolutely hilarious to see someone on your team cover the entire map with smoke firing 5000 rounds from the AC-130, not to mention the firework show as they rained down. It seems anything and everything can be glitched in this game.
This happened to me today. In the last 5 games I joined everyone had unlimited ammo. It was fun for the first game or two but after that it was really annoying. Does anyone know if this is just in Headquarters?
According to a developer's twitter they are working on the private match glitches and fixing the 1887s. Hopefully both fixes come along before Christmas, as the huge influx of new players is going to be a great time to raise that KDR and level up.
I just bought this yesterday and it's kicking the shit out of me. I haven't played a game like this in almost 20 years; I keep dying because I get impatient and try to rush through things and the game bitchslaps me for such presumption. It's crazy, every enemy requires forethought and strategy or else you're gonna die. I haven't even made it to the first boss yet.
Agreed. KDR will take a nice boost after Christmas. I'd love to see two things - fix Matchmaking and stats website. I'm REALLY surprised they didn't include a stats website at the original release, especially since WaW had it (yes, I know they're different game studios). It just seems like tracking stats online is something players really enjoy. Has anyone made it through Campaign on Veteran? I've started it and got through the section where you start chasing Rojas through the Favelas. How much harder does it get than that? I'm assuming it will get substantially harder. Another interesting topic to me - what controls does everyone use? I hear a lot of people use tactical. My Setup: Sensitivity 4, Button Layout: Lefty, Look Inversion On.
Actually, I figured it out. Its just a private match glitch where the host made the settings to include infinite ammo. The private match bug is really easy to do and it allows you to gain xp as well as do those huge domination games or ffa games on Rust. Basically if you search for 3rd person team tactical, there is a 90% chance of getting into one of these bugged games. To be honest though, its going to suck when they finally fix it seeing as playing a big domination game on Rust is actually a TON of fun, not to mention being a good way to mix things up if its starting to get stale for you. I got 3 nukes in a row playing on these maps by getting lucky running around (chopper gunner/ac-130 will get you an easy 25 kills since the map is so tiny). And on another note, I figured out what it takes to be amazing at this game: be the host. I did the glitch once to help a friend and it made me host of the private-public match and my god, what a difference. The movements and actions you do on your screen actually happen even when being shot at; using a famas or m16 means that all 3 rounds will hit your target even if they are rounding a corner or object; hell, I even outran a martyrdom grenade while crouched instead of it acting as a vacuum sucking you into its explosion. If you ever play private matches with friends, try being host one game; that shit is heaven.
I played through Veteran when I first got it, so it's been a while. It definitely has some harder parts after this, in particular for me were when you have to storm the White House, and the mission that the Estate map is based on. (I forget the exact mission order but surely these are after Favela.) Took me a while to figure out a good route to take on the White House mission, because I kept trying to go left and died every single time, but actually going straight toward the White House as far as I could worked pretty well for me. As for Estate, once I found a good corner to hide in that I could protect the device from, I managed pretty well. From there it was pure luck whether I got killed on the way down the hill towards the extraction. Veteran is more about perseverance and patience than anything else. You just have to be willing to constantly be prone and take everything really slowly, and not rage quit when you die 50 times in a row. Even my roommate who hates FPS played through it successfully (he's an achievement whore) because he's very patient. I've always used the default control layout and sensitivity... I've considered changing my sensitivity, because right now it's kind of bad in both respects, in that it's not slow enough to make precision aiming easier, but not fast enough that I can swing around when surprised. I'm hesitant to change though because I think it'd be harder to get used to something new after playing so long.
I use the default controls, just because I never bothered to use anything else. Maybe I'll try another setup, what are the reasons you've heard for using tactical? I also have look inversion on, it has always felt more natural to me. Maybe it's all that time spent playing flight simulator on my old 486 computer. I did have to adjust the sensitivity though, I have it on high now, debating turning it up a little more. Maybe it's all in my head, but I've been playing better after adjusting the sensitivity.
I played up through the middle of the , I guess, going to the top of the shitty neighborhood to catch the guy mission, when my stereo receiver shit the bed. Pissed me off, cause I had a lot of time off, and planned to play the shit out of this game and learn how to be good at it. Instead, I've spent the last week leveling my FFX characters to ridiculous amounts of badassery, to the point that when I beat the game again, I'm going to hit the main boss MAYBE twice before I win. Fuck, I need to get two more paychecks before I can get a new receiver at cost from a buddy that works in A/V AND be able to pay my next rent, and my motorcycle payment. Being an adult sucks. I wish I was a kid again, where my parents bankrolled all my gaming. They never did pay for transport, though...
I have my sensitivity on 5 right now. It sucks getting used to, but I've seen my accuracy actually go up over the past week. It's also possible to whip around to kill someone behind me even if they get a couple shots off first. So there's that. And I agree with the previous poster about the mission where you storm the White House. I played it on hardened and got blasted within seconds for the first 10 tries. I can't even imagine it on Veteran.
