My PS3 died a couple of times, and I'd send it in to get it serviced. Finally, once I got it back, I took it straight to GameStop, along with a few old games, and managed to trade it all in for a new PS3 slim model that ended up costing me $20 cash. Once they start dying, they'll die every few months until you finally give it up and just get a newer model.

I can't wait to get some time off, just because I want to dive back into Assassin's Creed 3. Haven't had a chance to play anything for the past few weeks.

I played Farcry 2, and was disappointed in how repetitive it was. It also pissed me off that I would , say, clear out an intersection, drive a mile down the road, come back - and its like you never wasted the bullets the first time.

So I have received Farcry 3 as a gift. I will of course, give it a go. What do you guys think of it? How does it differ from 2? less repetitive, I hope?

Faster than Light is good fun if you like spaceships. It's like $10 on steam.

Don't see much talk of the Steam sale that is going on right now, there has been some good stuff on there if you are a PC gamer.

Right now though, for the next 48 hours, FTL and XCOM are on sale and those are both fantastic games. XCOM is still $33 but FTL is now $5 and I would highly recommend it.

The full season of The Walking Dead has been out for a little bit now. If you haven't already, get it. It's a point and click adventure, which I know might turn some people off, but it's seriously my Game of the Year. Incredible voice acting, great comic-book style graphics, a storyline that will shock, awe, and depress you to no end, and decisions that actually affect the outcome of your relationships and story, not to mention that it will test your moral fiber to it's very root by making you make decisions through the lens of an 8 year old girl. I can't recommend it enough. I think the first episode is free right now on the XBLA. Also for PS3 and PC.

It seems to me like the sales have been pretty weak this year. I don't know, maybe it's because I own most stuff I want already. Also, Amazon and Green Man Gaming have been keeping up quite well with Steam this year. Some nice deals at reasonable prices.

Yeah, there's a bunch of great deals.
Unfortunately my machine can't run most of the new stuff properly but I got one or two good deals out of it.
Got Hotline Miami when it was on sale and it's really fun so far.

There's also a sale over on gog.com if someone's into older games, they have pretty awesome catalogue, especially if you like the old point-and-click adventures.

I picked up "The Last Story" for the Wii with my Amazon gift card. It was recommended highly as the last good game for the Wii, and I think I have to agree. I am a few hours into the game and really digging it so far.

It is a JRPG along the lines of Final Fantasy or Dragon Quest, complete with the Final Fantasy tropes (diverse cast, strange costumes, massive swords), but the characters are all fun and engaging thus far, and I'm not actively rooting for any of them to die (i.e. Tidus, Rikku, Vaan, Hope, Snow). The battle system takes place in real time, and at first it seems fairly shallow (go in, swing sword, kill). However, as it progresses, it gets more strategic as more skills unlock. Magic comes in the form of magic circles that, if an ally steps in it, it gives him extra powers (i.e. step in a fire circle, and you have a flaming sword for a while). Enemies step into it and it damages them. OR, the main character can "disperse" the circle, which causes status effects and damage to the enemies (i.e. "Disperse" an ice magic circle, and it causes all the nearby enemies to continually slip and fall for a bit). There is also the ability for the main character to attract the attention of all enemies, giving his allies much needed time to cast spells and attack, but if the main character dies, its game over.

There isn't a lot of customization of skills, because every character has set skills. For example, one mage uses only ice magic, while another only uses fire, and a third heals and uses light magic, etc. There is, however, plenty of customization in terms of upgradable weapons and armor, not to mention the ability to "dye" costumes and make them any color you want. The dyes are completely unnecessary, but I guess if you're a customization nut, why not.

Most treasures are also randomly generated, so you could end up with a lot of gold, or maybe some generic bullshit, or a rare sword or armor item that is really helpful.

Overall, I'd give it a pretty solid B thus far. As I get further into it, I'll get more of a feel of it, but so far it is the first game I've played in a while where I really look forward to playing it, and I can play it for a few hours without realizing how long its been. If you have a Wii still, I'd recommend picking it up. It'll probably be your last excuse for dusting the Wii off before boxing it up for good.

I'm shocked less people are talking about this game, I've been like a heroin junkie with it since I got it a few days ago, I would recommend it to anyone who is a fan of FPS sandbox games.

Because the marketing of the game is fucking terrible. I've watched commercials for it, and downloaded every trailer they put up on PSN which has been about 4-5. I still have NO fucking clue what the game is about, and what makes it different than other FPS games. All I know is that it is an FPS, and it takes place in the jungle.

I was shocked too, I've been addicted to it since I got it as well. Probably the best FPS I've ever played.

I'd recommend at least giving it a rental to see if it's your style. While the game at it's core isn't really THAT much different from other FPS sandbox games it just feels different to me, much more of an open world, more strategy options and they do a better job at engaging you in the story/environment. For reference I didn't like Oblivion, Assassins Creed or Red Dead Redemption.

I feel like this review does a good job of explaining the game.

So my girlfriend went out and bought a Xbox because she wanted to use the kinect to work out in the house while the weather is bad. Whatever, it's her money, we'll see how long the workout thing lasts.

Regardless, I haven't been a video game guy for a long time now, so I'm pretty clueless about all the good games out there right now. So I figured I'd ask you guys if there are any "must have" games, accessories, etc. I should look into. One of my friends said I should look into getting an extra HDD for it since it's only the 4GB version. So do they make specific drives you have to buy just for the system, or can I just use any external drive?

Other than the games that came with the system (a Nike trainer game and a Kinect game) I did pick up Batman: Arkham Asylum because it was only $16 and I heard a lot of people recommend it. Only a few hours into it, but I'm liking it so far.

    So that's where I'm at. I appreciate any help/suggestions.

    Get these first:
    Dark Souls
    The Orange Box
    Metal Gear Solid HD Collection

That should give you some bang for your buck, considering The Orange Box has 5 games and MGS HD has 3+2 MSX ports.

If you like shooters, here's a couple of different series:
    Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary
Halo 3: ODST (selected these two for their single-player campaigns)
any of the Gears of War series
Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare (best one in the series)

Xbox Live Arcade has a bunch of cool stuff too:
    Pac-Man Championship Edition DX
Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike Online Edition
    Radiant Silvergun (shmup)
    Ikaruga (bullet hell shmup)

That list should have you set for a while. It kind of goes from easier to harder games towards the bottom.
