The new Call of Duty: Ghosts looks...damn near identical to the last one. Just prettier with better textures and lighting. It's the same shit, but with a dog this time. I mean if that's not a fucking metaphor for this upcoming console generation then what on Earth is...?
XBox ONE E3 conference: Oh dear lord that was hilarious. Battlefield 4 demo had to be restarted to get the sound working right. Another demo never had sound at all. There was actual booing and heckling from the audience. All in all, there was nothing special about this. The only exclusive game that caught my eye was Killer Instinct (really!), and it was more in a "you guys realize the only people who remember playing this didn't do so for the technical skill, right?" sort of way. Another standout was Titanfall from the guys formerly known as Infinity Ward. Looks like a mix of BF2142 and Hawken. They call it a XBone exclusive but they've already announced a PC version, so that's where I'll be. Oh, and it's $499.00 US dollars this November.
Great, except I can't stand it not being David Hayter. Its just too many games for it not to be. Keifer just isn't scratchy enough.
I genuinely can figure out why it isn't David Hayter. No video game voice actor was more identified with a character than David Hayter as Snake. Maybe going for some star appeal? I just don't get it.
What's even more mysterious is there was a interview with the first trailer and he was just like "Nope, no idea. They just never reached out to me." Hideo will have to put out an explanation eventually.
Hayter's gonna hate I'd also prefer Hayter, but it could be for story purposes if Bauer snake meets Solid snake. Or, Kojima may have plans for a movie and wants Keifer associated with the character to play him on screen in the future.
Goddamn Sony just OBLITERATED Microsoft - no DRM, no online requirements for single player games, FUCKING $399 PRICE POINT. They seem to have snuck in PS+ as a requirement for online multiplayer, but unless they change their current model of giving away $500+ of free games yearly to subscribers, that's a damn fine trade off in my opinion. I'm happy to pay $50 a year or whatever if it means they'll feed me enough free AAA titles that I don't even need to spend money at Gamestop. Microsoft has some serious reworking to do of their entire approach to this console before the fall or XBONE will flop harder than HD-DVDs did.
I'll be getting one if I can get it at 399, fuck christmas price gougers. Somehow I was on a mailing list for the XFAIL and all I did was laugh and delete it, why anyone would buy one is beyond me. Is HALO that big of a draw? I don't think so.
All they have to do is pretend that we're rational consumers able to make our purchasing decisions based on what's in our best interest, and not the interests of their affiliates and publishing/retail partners. Easy, right?
Considering that most of the big blockbuster EVERYBODY MUST HAVE THIS NOW games like CoD and Battlefield and FIFA and Madden and whatnot are on both platforms anyway, I have trouble seeing even the most foolish of purchasers opting to pay an extra $100 for a DRM box that locks up if it goes 24 hours without talking to the internet, does not support used games, and watches you all the time from its little camera. I dunno, maybe I'm naive.

So whats the big hoopla over PS+? Ive never had it so Im not to keen on the perks. Honestly it sounds like Sony said fuck the free model that everyone liked about their past online gaming and now want to implement a fee based model ala Xbox Live. It better come with the same level of online capabilities that were forgone in their free service. I mean Im older now and with my growns up job so it won't break my bank. But one of my biggest arguments against Xbox live in the past was that it added hundreds and hundreds of dollars onto the price of the console over the lifetime of the console. If it is 50 bucks a year (still dirt cheap I guess) thats an extra 300 bucks over the consoles lifetime. I like PS4s look though, very Marty McFly Back to the Future part 2.
That sums it up for me, I love this series but because of the voice it doesn't even seem similiar to me. I think it was MG4 that Snake dies pretty close to the begining, I dont think i finished the game just because i couldn't get past not playing snake. Yes but it is Ubisoft, they lock there games so full of DRM, fuck them.
Also, the more I hear from M$ about Xbox Ones DRM set up the more confused I am. Your blood relatives can take your account to close friends who have been online friends with you for 30 days but you must connect to the cloud every fortnight lest your games turn into pumpkins, but that's only if the publisher decides he wants your game to turn into a pumpkin. The publishers also get to decide whether blood relatives can use your game or if they need to trade it in for true blood at certified gaming stores. I swear I've never seen a more unconvincing presentation of a new product ever.
Outside of Halo, what are the remaining perks to the XBox One? Because while I'm certain I'll eventually be buying a next gen console, the XBO minus column seems to getting remarkably large for very little plus column action.

For me, it was Halo and Gears of War vs. InFamous and Uncharted (I never cared for God of War). The Gears series is basically finished and Halo is moving in the direction of Call of Duty: In Outer Space! so I'm not sure what the point is. The ESPN integration was nice when it first came out, but ESPN finally got their shit together with other platforms for that. I like Xbox Live better than PSN, but this is ultimately going to depend on which network your friends are on. I despise Sony and hate to give them my money, but I'm also not going to buy a crippled piece of shit. I probably won't buy either one until something absolutely incredible comes out that I want to play. I see one of two things happening. Either Sony cleans up this Christmas and Microsoft softens a lot of the bullshit with a firmware update, or the big publishers fall in love with Microsoft's walled garden and give the Xbox1 some huge exclusives. I could see Activision, EA, and Ubisoft all throwing money away to do this in the name of killing piracy/used game sales. If future iterations of games like Madden, FIFA, and Assassin's Creed go exclusive, that platform is going to win. Microsoft already has the sweetheart deal to get CoD DLC earlier. Imagine if they got the series outright.
I really don't think the big publishers have the balls to go retroactively exclusive at this point. Too much short term money left on the table. It would need Microsoft throwing an absolutely exorbitant amount of money at them, and I doubt they can justify that, especially as a publicly traded company.
Bingo, and with the releases at the end of the year right before they post financial statements? Their investors and Board would have their C-level for lunch with a stunt like that. That would be an incredibly stupid move.
