    hooray for steam holiday sale!

picked up bf2 for less than 8 bucks
    great deal imo

tip for anyone else who just bought from steam: change your download region in settings if you think your download speed is a little slow. I just changed mine from san jose/la to japan, and my d/l speed has drastically improved.

Spent more time than I probably should have playing MW2 today. For anyone that hasn't tried this yet, riot shield + blast shield is a hilarious combo, you live through everything. Once you get used to moving with the shield and covering yourself, you can take on almost anyone one on one. Crouching down in doorways or hallways while people just empty clips into you never gets old either. Also, even though you wont get many kills, it's extremely useful for the objective based games like headquarters.

Finally unlocked all the guns/perks I wanted in Modern Warfare 2 and here is my current setup. Anyone else is using anything similar?
    All perks are pro

    "Assault"
    ACR w/ red dot
    SPAS12 shotgun w/grip
    Frag
    Flash bang
    -Perks-
    Sleight of hand
    Cold Blooded
    Steady Aim

    "Precision"
Same as above with M16 red dot

    "Sniper"
    M21 w/ thermal scope + silencer
    M9 w/ tactical knife + silencer
    Claymore
    Smoke
    -Perks-
    Bling
    Cold Blooded
    Ninja

"Ninja" also known as "Run and stab"
    M21 w/ heartbeat sensor
    M9 w/tactical knife
    Throwing knife
    Smoke
    -Perks-
    Marathon
    Lightweight
    Commando

    "Rambo"
    P90 Akimbo
    G18 Akimbo
    Blast Shield
    Flash
    -Perks-
    Scavenger
    Hardline
    Steady Aim

    Killstreaks:
    Predator-Harrier-AC130

I use the first two assault rifle classes mainly for team deathmatch games on non-sniper maps. The M16 for medium-long range kills while the ACR is better for short-medium and can kill at long range with short bursts to lessen the recoil. SPAS12 is my shotgun of choice for taking out a room full of guys. My sniper setup makes me invisible unless someone sees me changing spots. Knifing class is insanely fun and effective for flanking enemies, I use a sniper for my primary because of the fact that it has the same lightness as an SMG while running, the heartbeat sensor comes in handy when sneaking around, and the ghillie suit helps in grassy areas. "Rambo" is for a run and gun style which I use in 3rd person games and whenever I feel like spraying people. My goal for most games is to get the AC130 which doesn't get shot down as easily as the chopper and is much more fun to use IMO.

I think it's funny how many people have their "Ninja" class that doesn't use the Ninja perk. Ironic?

Anyway, does anyone use One Man Army to much effect? I think it's main benefit is it basically means you don't have to worry about ammo and can get more equipment. For example, I had the idea of using it as my starting class with a tactical insertion, then switch over to my sniper class with claymores, thus giving me the benefit of spawning in my spot (which is particularly useful on maps like Highrise, where it can be very hard to get back to good sniper spots) and at the same time having a claymore to guard the entrances.

Are there some innovative One Man Army tactics I'm missing out on? I remember a while back someone said they had all their classes have OMA and then they could switch between them freely, but I don't think I could cope with losing my first perk and my secondary weapon on every class.

Found a site on Modern Warfare 2, has a lot of information.

    <a class="postlink" href="http://callofduty.wikia.com/wiki/Call_of_Duty:_Modern_Warfare_2" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://callofduty.wikia.com/wiki/Call_o ... _Warfare_2</a>

I've been trying to find out how to make a clan. I have no idea what I'm doing and I feel pretty dumb.
Anyone want to give me an idea?
    Anyone? Hello?

So I finally got Assassin's Creed 2 and dug in today. So far, I am really enjoying the story, and liking it much more than the first. When Ezio's uncle actually said "Its-a me! Mario!" I cracked up. What an incredibly nerdy joke to laugh at.

On an unrelated note: I received a 500GB hard drive to upgrade my PS3 for Christmas. Upgrading the hard drive is so insanely easy I hate myself for not doing it sooner (I only had a 40GB hard drive originally). Now there is zero concern about downloading games, movies, or whatever else my sad, nerdy little heart desires. Given the fact that a lot of games seem to need anywhere from 1 to 3 GB of memory to install, anyone with a 40 (or hell, even an 80) gig system should look into upgrading, it is incredibly easy, and no more deleting old game saves or game install data to play newer games.

    Dear Cock Knuckles aka Microsoft,

Why do you need to put out an amazingly shitty program called GamesForWindowsLive. Let me enlighten you to why your program sucks. I recently purchased Red Faction: Guerrilla from Steam (a fantastic online platform might I add) and played the game for a solid hour. When I had enough and needed to leave to do something, I wasn't allowed to save, which might I add, does not make any fucking sense. This is when I find out that I have to FUCKING LOG INTO YOUR GOD DAMN SERVICE, INSTALL AN UPDATE THAT CRASHES MY GAME AND MAKES ME LOSE MY PROGRESS TO THAT FUCKING POINT. So now, I have to redo a large chunk of the work I have already spent working on because your fucking program can suck a golf ball through a garden hose.

    Your friend, and best pal,

With all the talk about Brutal Legend, I decided to purchase at BBY when I was there. I'll be starting tomorrow after work, hopefully it's as fun as you guys say. At least I can get into the soundtrack.

Ohhhh lawdy, OMA is so useful. I'm up to 9 nukes now and I couldn't have done it without OMA.

Try having a grenade launcher class with Dangerclose and OMA. Use a rifle with a grenade launcher attachment. Spam noob tube grenades and when you run out, hide and switch to the same class to replenish your supply. Also, use claymores to block some key entrances; switching also replenishes them.

Also, I like switching to a class with hardline two kills before a killstreak so that my next kill gives me the killstreak.

I got Demon's Souls for Christmas. You guys were right, it's a fucking blast. I'm still fucking clueless as hell, but I'm having fun figuring out.

For instance, it took me 10 minutes of cursing, yelling, scaring the dog and questioning the gender and chastity of the gamemaker's mother to figure out that you need to actually equip arrows.

Yeah, I felt like an idiot...

Anyone been doing the Spec Ops missions in MW2? I've been doing them on Veteran (by myself so far). I've got all done in Veteran on Alpha, all of the single capable ones on Bravo, and some in Charlie.

Anyone got any tips? One I can think of quickly that worked for me Breach and Clear (in the Gulag) can be run through pretty quickly. Just noob tube at the door, use a stryker and run through throwing flash bangs.

There's another map where it's by the Burger Town, Diner, and all that crap where you can just go lie down in the plane and wait for guys to come. Forgot what it's called though.

I'd also be interested in meeting up to try and knock some of these out and Vet.

I just got borderlands for PS3 its pretty decent but it feels just so fucking barre, devoid of anything and not in a good way. In Fallout 3 the emptiness was awesome because it was post apocalyptic war, this is just is just more of a blahhh feeling..

Multiplayer makes the game much better, although I did most by myself.

For some reason, the second playthrough is funner. Don't worry about doing all the quests, I think it makes you level up too fast and makes the game too easy.

Just bought Dragon Age Origins with my Christmas gift cards. I have no idea what to make of this game. I'm pretty sure I love it, but I haven't really made it out of the tutorial yet, since you get a different one depending on your race/class/origin, and I always start RPGs a few times to get a feel for the various playstyles. I still cannot decide on what to do. So far the Elf Mage has been my favorite, but Human Rogue is next and I'm sure I'll love that too.

Like many other RPG's the mage starts off slow but quickly makes most encounters seem easy if built right. The rogue can be fun but doesnt survive well in melee. I have a rogue Ranger/Bard that uses bows and he is a powerhouse believe it or now. You will end up with six or seven different characters because you want to try this idea or find an item to build a whole character around. I've got probably 200 hours into this game in total and I'm not stopping anytime soon.

    Dragon Age

Most of the posts on this game are of the "Its fun", "No it isn't" variety, so I thought I'd add a more detailed review.

For reference, I'm a huge fan of Morrowind and Oblivion of the Elder Scrolls series. I played Fable 2, and thought it was about a 6.5 on a 1-10 scale. I played Assassin's Creed, and put it down after a 20 hours or so, as it was mind-numbingly repetitive, and the controls were balky. I have played a few other sword and dragon type RPGs not worth mentioning. I prefer first person perspective, and playing a campaign solo - I'm not a fan of on-line play.

Having said that, I'm only several hours into Dragon Age, but that is enough for me to provide some useful commentary, without giving spoilers. I'm playing on an xbox 360. Thus far I like the plot, which drew me in immediately. I also like the dog, and after some dorking around with it, the interface is pretty slick.

In terms of graphics, however, this game is a few years behind (I don't know all of the terminology but I'll do my best). The scenery is pretty, but there are issues where objects intersect. For example, when a NPC is shown in front of a stone wall, the lines are pixelated where the hair overlaps the stone background. I've noticed other examples of this as well. The detail (rendering?), primarily of the characters, is somewhat lacking - definitely a step down from Oblivion. The horizon, or distance at which object are clearly visible, is very disappointing. Objects more than a 100 feet ahead in an alley can barely be discerned. Early in the game, my character was at Ostagar looking over the battlements, and trees in the valley below looked like cardboard cutouts. On top of all this, the cut scenes are sometimes jerky, and unlike many games, the graphics are not sharper in the cut scenes than during game play.

As for controls - I prefer to control my character's actions in combat. With Dragon Age, a large portion of the combat is controlled with pre-set options - just aim your character, press a button, and watch it happen. Furthermore, the controls seem odd - why do I need two seperate buttons (both bumpers on the 360) to change characters? Why do I have to undertake multiple actions to access some controls. In addition, my character will keep moving after I've stopped toggling the movement control.

I'm still feeling my way around, and an evolving story line, exciting quests and interesting NPCs could make up for some of this. But I don't see, at this point, how this game could be so highly rated when such basic elements are lacking. Perhaps it would be better on a PS3 or PC.

So I picked up a PS3 Sunday with gift cards I got for Christmas. So far I've been enjoying it, although with being back at work this week, I haven't had a ton of time to play.

Picked up MGS4 and Little Big Planet. MGS4 so far is exactly what I expected. I loved the first two (never really got into the third), and I've never really had a problem with games that had super long cut scenes (xenosaga/xenogears for anyone who actually played those). With the graphics looking so great in MGS4, I have no problem sitting back and watching the story unfold between the stealth action.

I haven't played nearly as much LBP, but I have been really impressed with the graphics and just the all around design of the game and its charm. Anyone else played it much? I'm curious how its multiplayer works.

I am also curious about PlayStation Home. I hadn't even thought about it till today while sitting at work, and I'm curious if any of you have played around with it. Is it worth downloading to play around with, or should I just skip it?

Can't speak for LBP, as I haven't played it. MGS4 is a fantastic game, and towards the end, the cutscenes get very long. So long, in fact, that my controller turned itself off (which I've set it to do after 10 minutes of not being used). I found this comical.

As for Home, it is alright. You create an avatar of yourself, you get your own little apartment, and you basically wonder around. Ever play SecondLife? The interface is sort of like that. Just walk around, talk to anyone else that happens to be around, discuss gaming, etc. I am sure there is more to it, somehow, but I haven't tinkered with it much, myself. At least, I am HOPING there is more to it. I plan to play around with it some more tomorrow to see.

I should warn that it did take up a hefty chunk of my hard drive before I upgraded, so beware of that.

Has anyone else noticed in MW2 multiplayer, when you're on the Army Ranger team and get a victory, that the song that plays is almost exactly the theme song to the Transformers movies? My friend pointed that out a couple weeks ago and now I laugh every time I hear it.
