We got the new Mario Brothers for the Wii for Christmas, even bought a new controller day before yesterday so all 4 of us could play and the disc drive crapped out yesterday. Fuck! We've had that Wii since launch ('06 was it?) and it has gotten a shitload of use so I'm not surprised but craaaap. Oh well. It gives me a reason to start on F.E.A.R. 2 for the PS3.
So I just finished Assassin's Creed 2. I have to say, the ending was SIGNIFICANTLY better and more satisfying than the ending of the first game. This one really made me want to play the third when it does come out. Few non-spoiler things: 1) This game was easily as good looking, if not better, than the first Assassin's Creed. There are very few games that just make you stop and stare around the game's environment because it is so beautifully rendered. This was one of them. 2) Maybe its just me, but the achievements/trophies for this game were really easy. It literally took me one week to not only beat the game, but get the platinum trophy. I'm not complaining, as some games get crazy with their trophy requirements, especially if you decide you want that platinum trophy, but this one almost seemed TOO easy. 3) I guess my point is that while the Assassin's Creed games are heavy on graphics and story, they simply aren't difficult games. They're fun, don't get me wrong, but there doesn't seem to be a whole ton of challenge. I cannot recall ONCE dying in that game that didn't involve Ezio turning and leaping in the wrong direction to his death, due to locking on to something I didn't want him to lock on to. Fighting was fun, but also shockingly easy. I will absolutely be getting Assassin's Creed 3 when it comes out, but I just have to say that if you play games that are meant to be especially challenging (i.e. Demon's Souls), don't expect that out of Assassin's Creed.
I don't know what I was doing different today, but every match I played today in MW2 I was absolutely on fire. One of the earliest games I played, I went 36-2. Of course that was using an attack chopper and a Pave Low, but still...I've never played that well since I bought this game, it was such a great feeling. After that, I rarely did worse than 25-5 until I stopped because of my internet crapping out on me. Its all about the M16, I fucking love that gun. And I thought the Aug was good. My loadout: M16A4 with red dot sight Stinger Frag Grenade Smoke Perks: Sleight of Hand Pro Stopping Power Pro Steady Aim Pro I love having the stinger because its great being able to deny someone the kills from their attack chopper/harrier. Also, In the past I have always used Bling, but I find that in the closer combat style of assault rifles (or at least how I play) being able to reload that fast and aim down the sights quicker to be much more useful. Otherwise I would be using the grenade launcher, or maybe a silencer.
I've ran into some many aimbotting bitches in MW2 that I have lost almost all interest in the game. I join a lobby to play and usually can't even get past the countdown before I just quit the game. Now all I have to do is wait for bad company 2 to come out. Anyone else going to pick it up?
Do yourself a favor and pick up Uncharted. The story is fun and the production quality is top notch. I had to remove myself from in front of the TV earlier to go to the gym before it closed, then came home and continued playing. My copy of Uncharted 2 just came from Amazon yesterday, so I'll probably be starting that tomorrow. This is a top notch series, truly.
Anyone playing EVE Online? I'm in the market for a MMORPG but I hate all that faerie faggot shit from WOW.
MagnaCarta 2 is a hell of a lot better than the first one, though it still has the ultra-obnoxious voice acting that seems to plague JRPGs. Not a bad way to blow some time until FF XIII though. All in all, a very average game, which is better than we can expect from a lot of 360 games in the genre in recent years, other than maybe Lost Odyssey. Last Remnant and Infinite Undiscovery can suck my balls. I've been playing a lot of Bayonetta (ridiculously awesome riff on the Devil May Cry formula, with a dash of Tarantino) and Darksiders (God of War meets Zelda. Yes.) lately, though I'm usually not big into action games. Darksiders isn't perfect, but I'm predicting a bit of a cult following behind it after it releases. Just went on a PS3 binge today, picking up Valkyria Chronicles, SOCOM and Uncharted 2. Paid off my Heavy Rain res as well. Anybody else hyped about that one? I'll be burning through Mass Effect and Bioshock, but I'm more excited about Heavy Rain than probably anything else this year. Indigo Prophecy was the shit (other than the functionally retarded final 30 minutes).
Do yourself a favor, if you were ever a fan of any of the previous Socom's, don't pick up Confrontation, Slant Six shit the bed, save your money and pick up MAG instead.
I'm late to the game, but I picked up a 250GB ps3 last week and I just ordered MW2 tonight. I've been playing World at War this week (rented it to see what it's like), and if MW2 is what it's supposed to be, I won't regret my purchase. I'll brush up and then maybe get with some of you guys online.
I've played all the COD's, and MW2 is easily the best online shooter I've played in my opinion. Killzone 2 is up there as well, but in terms of multiplayer and the addictiveness of the game, MW2 outshines all of them. The single player is also an awesome experience, but it's short, and if you don't play for consecutive hours, I felt like the story lost me and I didn't really care or understand what was happening. Either way, when you get online with this game, you WILL be hooked, but VERY frustrated until you learn the weapons, the maps, player tendencies and the high traffic areas on certain maps in certain scenarios. I didn't really get into a good groove with this game online until about level 30. I didn't start kicking major ass until about level 50. Don't get discourgaed in the online, take your lumps, and you'll eventually have yourself a social-life killing, nerd-pleasing game.
MAG public beta is up on PSN, get it while it's hot. (Haven't played it yet, it's downloading as of this post.)
This is pretty spot on right here. I'm just now getting to the mid 40's and I am finally getting to the point where I am cleaning up a majority of the time. At first I just ran around aimlessly hoping to find someone to kill, and my Kill/Death Ratio (KDR) hovered around 0.8. Now I've learned most of the maps, I'm familiar with the weapons, perks and Kill Streaks and how it all works together. And I have the M16A4 which, in my opinion, fucking owns. I have a KDR between 3.0 and 5.0 in most of the rounds I play, and my overall KDR has been quickly growing. And like WendeI said above, once you get better it really becomes much more enjoyable and you get fucking hooked.
I've got to second this. Just starting out the game was pretty frustrating, not knowing the maps, not having anything good unlocked, and those goddamned akimbo 1887s. But now that I'm around level 45, I'm usually something like 20-4 in matches, and my K/D is up to about 1.3. You just need to stick out the shitty parts until you figure everything out. Here's the classes I usually use: Assault M16A4 w/ holo sight 1911 w/ silencer Slight of Hand Pro Hardline Pro or Stopping Power Pro, depending on the gametype Steady Aim Pro Sneaking Around SCAR w/ silencer & holo sight 1911 w/ silencer & FMJ Bling Pro Cold Blooded Pro Steady Aim Pro
Am I the only one around here who is completely inconsistent with my play? Maybe it's my internet (I know, that's the excuse of poor players) but one match I will go 30-2, and then the very next match go 9-15, or worse. I don't understand how I can be so variable. And this happened last night I think, and I'm currently on Level 50-something, 1st prestige, so it's not inexperience. My cumulative KDR hovers around 1.25 because of this.
No, you're not the only one at all. I played the other day and was getting 25-5 or better almost every round, and had my best round ever at 36-2. Last night I played and it felt like every time I rounded a corner I got killed out of nowhere, and was getting 1:1 KDR's at best. Dunno why it happens, but it happens. That's a pretty neat idea. For some reason I've only considered the really stealthy stuff for sniper classes, I'll have to try a close range, stealthy assault class when I get home. Actually I think I'm gonna change up a lot of my classes and try some new stuff. Also I think I'll try some hardcore mode too, since I usually just play ground war. Does anyone else play hardcore very often? Whats your experience with it compared to normal stuff?
I haven't tried hardcore more than once on MW2, but I did try it quite a bit on MW1. This was mostly because my TV is a plasma and I was/am really paranoid about burn-in, and there's no HUD on hardcore so I didn't have to worry about it. That having been said, I will say the name is apt simply because it's more extreme. That is to say, when you're doing well, you'll do really well because you'll be getting kills everywhere because it is so much easier to kill people; however, when you're doing poorly you will die all the time, and because there's no killcam in hardcore you will often have no avenues to exact your vengeance. So, in MW2 I haven't played it a lot because I am an extremely vengeful person (so much so that the Accolade I have the most of is "Most Time Spent Watching Killcams") and I habitually go directly after the guy who killed me. Hardcore puts a stop to that, so no dice.
Breaking away from MW2 a little, I'm looking for a good RPG for PS3. I'm trying to decide between Dragon Age and Demon's Souls. I've read that Demon's Souls is more challenging and more fun to play, but Dragon Age has more replay value and also some DLC which will keep the game a little fresh and playable longer. I'm leaning towards Demon's Souls right now. Which is better in your guys' opinion?
Rumors of the next FALLOUT game are running around. I'm really looking forward to this. http://hellforge.gameriot.com/blogs/Hellforge/Leaked-First-Details-of-Fallout-New-Vegas
