Here's how I explained it to my friend who never got into it, and subsequently has. Demon's Souls and Dark Souls is like that super sneaky hot chick you see. At first, you think, she's cute. Then you see her in a few different outfits and think. 'Hmmm, she's hotter than I thought, and now I'm getting why some guys hit on her, but she never seems real interested. Maybe she has a boyfriend.' Then you properly meet her and find out she doesn't have a boyfriend, nor is she looking for one. You also realize that she is really hot, but you couldn't really tell how hot because she's not the type to hit you over the head with it. You've seen her in a bathing suit. Tight fitting clothing. You start to realize she might, just might, be a bit slutty in the bedroom with the right guy. You find yourself thinking 'I could be that guy.' You begin to pursue, slowly at first, not really revealing your position at first. She's seemingly oblivious. You try harder. Nothing, just straight up same as she always is. Now you're really making a concerted effort. Then it hits you, a look, a smile, and you realize "Holy fuck, she's not oblivious, she's indifferent and really going to make me work at it. Nothing will be obtained easily here." At this point, you do the cost benefit analysis. You decide based on your suspicion she might be really good in bed to continue on, and keep trying. She continues to make you work for every bit of attention. So much so that you figure no girl is worth this kind of effort with no payoff. Then it happens. She has a seeming moment of weakness, maybe she's a little tipsy, maybe just horny, but you get the call and head over to her place. The anticipation kills you, surely she can't be good in bed. Then you have sex with her, and all other sex pales in comparison. The months of innuendo, the effort, the going nowhere suddenly pays off. And you think 'I had no idea, it was worth every ounce of effort. Maybe more. She is goddess of sex.' That's what Dark Souls is like.
Sometimes to understand a game you have to play it. I feel like Dark Souls is one of those games. DS1 is like 15 bucks.
Well, due to a confluence of circumstances, I haven't been able to touch Dark Souls 2 for a week, and I'm going nuts. It's my spring break, and I can't play because I'm on full time daddy duty while my wife works. It's even more tortuous, being home for a week and unable to touch my PS 3. I can still do mobile gaming, though, so my next purchase will be a PS Vita and the Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD remake. Yes, it's gonna be about $300, but fuck it. I needs my gaming fix!
Can't you get one of those baby sling things and just plop her in there and play away? She's going to have to learn the controls so you guys can quest together in another few years.
She is almost 2, so that's out. She'd spend the entire time kicking me in the junk or head butting me. She is a ball of energy, and never stops moving. Semi-related note: there is not a single store in my region that has PS Vitas in stock. I don't know if they're super popular, or super unpopular, but the only option I have is Amazon. Not even the 5 gamestops within 15 miles of my home have any.
Now that I've progressed a bit, I think Dark Souls II is tougher than Dark Souls. Especially because you keep losing hp every time you come back, until you turn human again. It's not like there's a ton of effigies around either. The good news is there was a patch last night, and now if you help someone else defeat a boss, you return to your world in human form. Thank God for that.
So Im probably what five-six years late? I got MGS4 and have played a few hours into it. It is fucking awesome. The controls and camera have been refined immensely over 1-3. Shit is fun as fuck. Though I think the invisible RC buddy thing is kind of weak in the ideas department for Hideo, though the weapons enhancement you get from selling weapons with it is pretty awesome. Also got Revengance but have only played the tutorial. Seems pretty schweeeet.
Recently, a major collaborative speedrunning project years in the making was released. If you've heard of Half Hour Half-Life, you know that the original Half-Life is a crazy game for speedrunning. Some of the best Half-Life speedrunners in the world decided to get together and try to push the game to its breaking point. The result? HL21, a speedrun which beats the game in 20 minutes and 41 seconds. If you've played this game, or even if you haven't, this will blow you away. Spoiler This is a segmented speedrun, meaning each individual portion is tried and re-tried until it's as fast as possible, and the results are edited together into a final product. This means it can use riskier/inconsistent strategies to go as fast as possible. Each runner took an individual section and worked on it, then passed it on to the next person.
Hola gang, I am thinking about getting a 3DS to travel with. Work forces me to live in a hotel 3 nights per week, so I am looking for something to do when I'm on the road other than drink a lot. Anyone have an opinion on them? I love Mario and Zelda, and I know they have a lot of content for those two franchises, but I'm not sure what else is out there that will justify the $200 price tag.
Animal Crossing: New Leaf, Pokemon X/Y, LoZ A Link Between Worlds, Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate, Fire Emblem Awakening, and pretty soon Tomodachi Life. Tell me that's not amazing.
It's like The Sims meets Animal Crossing, with a big splash of absurdist humor. I can't stop laughing at the bit where he's talking about his interests, and it's just him rolling around on the floor.
So, looks like Microsoft is dropping the Kinect and copying PS Plus with Games with Gold. They're also dropping the requirement to have Gold in order to stream video (HBO GO, etc.) As someone who has one of these, I'm slightly annoyed that the thing I bought is no longer required to buy. Especially since I was told, "No, we're never selling this without that." I'm a little more annoyed that developers will now have to worry about 2 SKUs when it comes to XBox and will simply stop developing stuff for Kinect because it isn't worth it anymore. Especially when games like this are on the horizon. Edit: Looks like they'll be offering Steam-like sales if you're a Gold user too. http://news.xbox.com/2014/05/xbox-deliv ... re-choices
Microsoft has totally blown their XBone release... and as a result, I'm taking anything the say with a grain of salt and some serious reservations. Between the Adam Orth fiasco, and their overall lack of "getting it", they have a long way to go to earn back a lot of their once-faithful customers.
I don't know if you know this, but they have a new head of Xbox after the previous iteration took the Zynga CEO job. Apparently, his focus is on hardcore gamers now. If it means better games and a system, more power to him I guess.
Yep, I'm very aware. My statement still stands. A new guy and a press release or three isn't going to cut it. We'll have to see what they do, and it'll take more than one or two good moves to right the ship. $0.02
