I just saw this on the DSII board today, and holy fucking shit. I was laughing so hard. I would totally do that, but I know people would be on the lookout for it. In DS I, I never got really good at pvp, so when I got invaded, I had spots picked out to hide. Nothing as clever as that video, but the amount of hate mail I got - then eventual 'Where the HELL were you?' was priceless.
It's that time again. The International is upon us. The biggest Dota 2 tournament (and possibly the biggest in gaming) being held in Seattle from July 18th to the 21st. At last count the prize pool was at $8,000,000.00. Yes, 8 million dollars. Last year the prize pool was 2.8 million dollars. Holy shit.
If you're going to release an open world sandbox game, you're going to be compared to Rockstar and GTA. I don't think there is any question in that they set the mark for this genre. I had high expectations for Watch Dogs. I really liked early gameplay videos- it looked even more detailed and immersive than GTA. Then I read developers downgraded the resolution to hit the release date and the result is a compromised product with minimal depth. I also find the hacking mini games to be kind of cheesy and detract from the gameplay. Now I wish I had picked up the new Mario Kart
I saw Steam had an offer for DLC for this game already for $5. Nothing like milking game buyers, right? Maybe patches will fix the resolution issues? I'm not sure why publishers push developers like this - it's better to give them an extra month or two to get the game fully finished with minimal bugs. Sadly, I think it's because the publishers actually don't give a shit about the final product because they *know* gamers will be eager to buy the game and will disregard issues like this (definitely applies to ActiVision and their Call Of Dookie series). I won't buy Ubisoft games anymore because I always have issues trying to get them to work on any PC I've got. Got all 3 of the early Splinter Cell games in a pack; never got them to work properly. It's not likely that I'll pick up this game either.
For Dark Souls II fans, apparently 3 DLC's are coming out in July, August and September. Should be interesting, the DLC for Dark Souls I was pretty fantastic.
Dont know if any of you are interested in Star Citizen, but there pre-alpha dogfighting module was just released last night.
I just finished playing my way through Wolfenstein: The New Order. I don't have a whole lot of time I dedicate to gaming so I tend to be a little picky about games, and they have a high attrition rate even when I start playing - I don't mind some difficulty but if it's frustrating, that's it. I don't pay money for leisure time activities that make me angry. Overall, I really liked it. Video game acting is never oscar worthy, but BJ actually had a little real personality in this game and some struggles, along with some other characters who had actual consistent personalities. Gameplay was fun and varied - you can legitimately stealth most of the game or run in with guns blazing, and probably enjoy either approach. There are areas where stealth won't work and vice versa, so you're never stuck with any particular style. The weapons are enjoyable, though I'll say that the throwing knife and, to an extent, the silenced pistol are a little too effective. I mean, if it takes two full shotgun blasts to kill a guy in body armor, I'm not sure hitting him in the shoulder with a throwing knife should immediately drop him. Similarly, the silenced pistol kills enough things in a few shots from long distance that the stealth can get a little sloppy and silly. The shotgun is extremely satisfying, the electric gun is versatile, and the sniper rifle rides a good balance where it's powerful but not allowing you to just lay waste to the battlefield with a tiny bit of patience. Fun gameplay, halfway decent story to back it, good visuals... I enjoyed it.
So has anyone else been paying attention to E3. It's seems like everything I saw that could inspire to buy one of the new consoles doesn't come out until 2015. I'm leaning towards the PS3 for No Man's Sky and Bloodbourne. I really want to play Xenoblade X eventually as well, but I'll probably wait until the prices drop on the Wii U before I pick one up. So, any thoughts on E3?
One comment on the storyline for Wolfenstein. Towards the beginning, you make a choice, to either Spoiler save young private Wyatt from death, thus killing Fergus (Option 1) or vice versa (Option 2) This weirdly affects the game's hacking mechanic (never mentioned as to why this changes), along with some bit parts of the storyline. I initially chose Option 1 which I found pretty satisfying, because Spoiler Wyatt is a young kid and you see him grow as the game goes along. He's unsure and doubts himself, and at one point he saves your life and it feels like a pivotal moment in his character development. I'm playing through a bit of Option 2 and have found it kind of lacking. For instance, the exact same Spoiler life-saving moment I mentioned above happens with Fergus, but it seems like it's not nearly as important since he's just an old guy doing his military duty. And when Fergus has his crisis moment, it doesn't seem as meaningful as Wyatt's self-doubt. With the hacking mechanic change, it seals off a number of doors. Maybe I didn't find everything, but a bunch of the more interesting side doors are not able to be opened in Option 2. Just seems odd to me that they developed two story lines, but it seems forced, like they designed the story around Option 1 but shoe-horned in the second option just to give the player some choice.
Dreamhack is going on right now. I like watching Counter-Strike, although I don't really understand it well. http://www.twitch.tv/dreamhackcs
Anyone else happen to try out the Destiny Alpha this weekend? I enjoyed it throughout, very much a mix of Borderlands and Halo. Looking forward to hopefully more content when the Beta starts next month.
Summer Games Done Quick is June 22-28. I'll be there, go watch me, watch some speedruns, donate to Doctors Without Borders. http://gamesdonequick.com
He wasn't around as much this time! I had so much fun at this thing, we raised something like $700k for MSF, my run went well, the other run I was on couch for went well, everything was cool. Catch up here: http://www.reddit.com/r/speedrun/commen ... ds_thread/
Which one is yours? Also is PJ as cool as he seems IRL? I love watching his runs. His speed run of Super Ghouls and Ghosts last year is one of my all time favorites.
After not firing up my PS3 for an entire week, I saw that Ace Combat Infinity was up on PSN. I haven't dove into it very deep, but its the "Free" game that has online and campaign. Game time is set in "fuel" or something that you can buy or just wait. There are packages to buy for unlimited so its like you bought the game out right, I haven't looked at all of them though. I played the Beta awhile ago and the game looks good and plays like the old Ace Combats.
