Let me amend this, this is a great game if you don't care about the game judging/grading you. The way to get the highest scores in this game is if you never get seen, never kill anyone and don't fuck around at all. Now with that said, there isn't content or gear you can't get if you don't nail the perfect scores. It's all just currency and those perfect games get you stuff faster, but if all you got is time, all the side missions and shit you can find will eventually get you everything you need. I haven't gotten to the ending yet, so many side missions and shit to fuck around with. The storyline mission practically require you to play them twice because there are 6 objectives and one or two of them can't be done in the same mission. I.e. one will say kill the guy and the other says to extract him.
Got me my Fallout 4. When even the installation file has a cut-scene that's hilarious to view, you know the game is gonna be entertaining.
I've played both Fallout 3 and NV and I'm enjoying this one so far, but I'm only about an hour in. If you've never played an FO game before you'll probably love it. The main criticisms appear to be that the game is somewhat buggy on launch and that there hasnt been many innovations in game play over FO3 and NV, which I dont really care about and as a new player, you wont know the difference anyway. Plus I like it because it takes place in the city I live in, so maybe Im a bit biased.
I was watching some FO4 game play today and....I just don't get it? Is it a shooter? Is it a puzzle game? Is it just walking collecting things? Perhaps it's just me, but from the limited amount I saw, it just didn't look very interesting and seemed unnecessarily tedious and kind of boring. *Edit I had the same reaction when watching both of the Dark Souls games, so maybe it's just that type of genre that doesn't really appeal to me.
Its an open-world RPG, so its a shooter, story, and collecting things to do stuff like make weapon mods, etc. You really either like that kind of game or you dont. If you buy it looking for a straight first person shooter, youre going to be surprised.
There is a lot of customization in the game from gear, to bases, to the actual storyline you play. There is a pretty good karma system and even better your actions impact the story and the world you live in. Your decisions are persistent. Not sure if you've played Mass Effect, but something along those lines. There are a ton of variables in the game and multiple ways to get through the game. The game is also just FUCKING HUGE. There is the main quest that has its own story, but there are so many sidequests that you will just stumble upon. On top of that the writing and humor are just golden. IGN gave it 9.5/10 because it has some bugs, but this game can't NOT have bugs because of the millions of possible things that can happen in it.
So I picked up a couple more PS3 games....Fallout 3 and Mafia 2. From what I've seen Mafia 2 looks awesome. Have any of you played it? Thoughts?
Yes, it's lots of fun. Decent voice acting and you get to run the business and make sure it stays running right. It's a simple linear story. Not too much deviation or side missions. Quite the opposite of fallout.
Anyone picking up Battlefront today? I barely have enough time to play fallout let alone another game, think Im going let the wife pick it up as an Xmas present.
I have so much time into fallout and I am barely into the game, so many side missions, so much to do and pickup. I can probably already see myself burning out and not finishing it because there is so much to do. So I am in the same boat as you, except my video card is so shitty that I have to run fallout in a reduced windowed mode and minimum graphics just to be able to play it. And battlefront requires an even better graphics card then fallout I am pretty sure I will not even be able to start the game.
And so far the reviews have been meh. And this is why I don't pre-order or buy on the first day, when they have a media blackout on the reviews before it comes out.
I can't really figure out why I'm not madly in love with Fallout 4 yet. I'm about 10 hours in and it's an awesome game, but I feel like they made it easier in a lot of ways. They modeled the gameplay off Destiny so you don't even need to use VATS anymore. I also read some tips and tricks stuff that go into my head. 1) There are LIMITED Power Cores in the game, and no, you can't make more. So early on, they give you this awesome Power Armor Suit, but doesn't tell you exactly that you shouldn't be using it all the time. Tied with this, they took Power Armor that was just end game armor and made it into the Power Armor Suit which you can only use for a limited time. 2) The building stuff takes up a lot of time if you try to do it right, and it's hard due to the system. It's basically The Sims / Sim City but you don't a top down view to make sure everything isn't retarded. 3) The junking and crafting system is never explained at all. You just have to fuck around with shit to figure it out.
I kind of like the crafting and base building, its fun albeit a little tedious. My biggest gripe about the game is that there really isnt any moral implications anymore. In FO3 and NV you could be downright evil if you wanted to, but they did away with the Karma system so theres no moral consequences of taking one action or another. In FO3 you can nuke an entire city just to get a swanky apartment, but theres nothing equivalent in this game which is disappointing. NV had the faction system, which at least made some sense. The only semblance of that is how much your companion likes you. I guess its a consequence of the character having an actual voice this time around. The worst that happens is an NPC gets a little pissy about whatever you said, but youre still the hero. Im fine with everything else, even if I did have to remove the FPS cap from the game files only to have to scale it right back on my video card. But the real essence of the games were that your decisions mattered, now they really dont.
My problem is with the city building is it is hard to assign people to duties. You have to be in the city building mode, talk to the person, then go to where you want to assign them to. Didn't they bring VATS back, I thought I remembered one game where they didn't use it. I have no problem with the power armor, because I figured if it had a power source that it wasn't meant to be used all the time. I thought the junking/crafting system was easily explained, and pretty fun.
They brought VATS back but in Fallout 3, you couldn't kill anything without it for the first half of the game. Now it's pretty much aim and fire. Shit, I thought they'd figure out their own assignments. The chick of the original 5 started working on the fields on her own, looks like I have more work to do.
I might take the plunge for a PS4 tomorrow. Not sure if I want to get the Uncharted collection bundle for 399 with 500 gigs or the call of duty version with 1 terabyte and Destiny for 429. There is a Star Wars Battlefront option but I havent heard many good things about the game. I honestly dont know if Id ever even play through all of the Uncharted, I definitely play some Call of Duty. Decisions decisions.
GTA V on special on Steam (so PC version) until December 1st. I hadn't gotten it up to this point as it was much too expensive but now I got it - something like 40% off. Huge (60 gig) download though.
