I'm holding back on any sort of opinions or hopes on this one. I loved LEGOs as a kid...Hell I still love 'em, but like you said this is a kid oriented game.

If they pull it off right, then it could be a pretty awesome game. We'll see though.

I just finished another Mass Effect playthrough to get me in the mindset for Mass Effect 2. Hopefully I can finish Mass Effect 2 before Final Fantasy 13 comes out. I'm stoked its coming out on the 360.

So I just put my first six hours into a review copy of Mass Effect 2. It really feels as though BioWare listened to every complaint raised against the first game. The squad AI seems MUCH tighter. No more elevator rides. Loading is rarely obtrusive.

In short--holy shit. This game is good.

The story kicks up right away, and it's immediately obvious that this game is going to be a little darker in tone than the first. I won't spoil anything here, but I will say that you'll be very aware of how the decisions you made in 1 affect 2's world. My only complaint so far is the way weapons/armor are handled. It really feels like the RPG customization elements were drastically scaled down to create more of a happy medium with the shooter genre, though I will give BW credit for making planetary exploration waaay less boring (and in many cases, pointless).

So far, this one seems like it deserves the hype. Should be interesting to see the first fan reviews pour in later this week. I think this one is bound for just about every best-of list when December '10 rolls around.

So I just finished getting my PS3 controller hooked up to my laptop. Nothing says awesome like rocking out to some Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of time when ever I want. It looks good (thanks to some emulator texture rendering help) and still plays awesome.

Check out http://www.hardcoreware.net/how-to-playstation-3-controller-64-bit-windows-7-vista/ if you are interested. It should work for 32 bit win7, vista and XP

New SWTOR timeline vid: if you haven't seen the previous ones then do. Also all the classes have been revealed. The Sith Inquisitor is the coolest one by far.

Well, after playing a little bit of the open beta, I've decided that I'm going to be giving Star Trek Online a shot. Comes out next Tuesday but if you preorder than you can start playing on Friday. The whole 'pre-order bonus' thing that all retailers do these days kind of pisses me off, but I want to play over the weekend. The worst part though? Gamestop has the best bonus being that your initial ship is the same class as the original Enterprise. I fucking hate giving money to Gamestop, I hate that place so damned much.

Guess I'll have to get over though thanks to the fact that I am such a huge fucking nerd.

Of course the more immediate concern is Mass Effect 2. After watching that release trailer that was posted above I am pretty stoked to play this...I'm even tempted to call in sick to work to take a whole day to play.

This is going to be such an awesome game, I'm actually kinda pissed at my buddy who has 2 Xboxs, one modded and one legit, and has been playing ME2 on the hackbox for the past few days. He's been sending me stupid texts with gay little spoilers because he knows I've been looking forward to it.

I loved the last game, so much so that all the technical gripes people complained about, I never noticed. I'm really curious to see how my previous character(s) will carry over into the new game. Stupid me read up on the new game a little too much, so now I already know how certain decisions will play out, so I'm staying away from everything now. Also, apparently this time around you can actually die permanently in the game through a chain of choices, and if so, you can't carry over your Shepard to ME3. I think this has to the potential to be way better than DAO, which was awesome.

Good bye social life for the next few days.

Is anyone going to be picking up battlefield bad company 2 when it releases? If you pre-order for the PC, you get access to the beta which starts on the 28th of this month. I've always liked BF's massive maps and vehicle warfare. Not as pretty as COD can be, but I've always liked the style of play better. Plus the environment is destructible, which should be good fun.

And of course Aliens vs Predator next month.

I really want to get the upgraded originals before I get this one. Same shit has happened with me and Metal Gear Solid, I never played through Snake Eater so I put off getting MGS4. Ive almost completely moved on to online shooters and rarely bust out a story driven single player anymore. Fucking Call of Duty is ruining my life.

I haven't played the first Mass Effect, because at the time I wasn't into RPG's. The trailers and previews for ME2 look really sick and I want to pick it up. My question is should I play the first one first, or can I start with two without missing much?

The first one is an amazing game, so you should play it regardless. From what I've read, you can play 2 and enjoy yourself, but most of the plot twists are more intense if you have played the first game. Not to mention, the decisions you make in the first game affect your playthrough in the second game if you import your character. Plus, you can get the platinum hits edition of the first one for 20 bucks new, and probably 12-15 used.

My problem is that I played the first one when it was released, but that was long enough ago that I barely remember how the story played out. I thought about playing through it again but you know...MW2.

Anyone know where I can find a good story synopsis of the first one?

EDIT: The Mass Effect wiki looks like it was a pretty good synopsis of the first games story line here

has anyone ever played the Goldeneye: Source mod for Half Life 2? I played it a few years ago when it was still mostly HL2, but I downloaded the newer version a few days ago and holy crap it looks just like Goldeneye. There are only a couple servers that are regularly active, but it's worth it to run around the Facility with 8 people.

About 7 hours into Mass Effect 2 and I am completely blown away. The environments are a massive upgrade versus the last game. They feel much more alive, and the variety is greater. The combat is totally improved, as is the control scheme. It feels more like a shooter now, but at the same time the powers are cooler. I'm playing through as a Vanguard and the charge ability is absolutely nasty. Finally, the characters. I've only unlocked about half of them so far, but the ones I have are all way cooler than the characters from Mass Effect. There were some sweet characters in the first game (Garrus, Wrex), but there were some super duds too (Kaidan, Ashley.) So far there doesn't seem to be a bad character this time around.

I'm so pissed I won't get to play ME2 for another month. Fucking flight school is interrupting my gaming time. All my friends already have the game and all they can do is rave to me about how awesome it is and that I need to get it. This sucks.

I'm about three hours into Mass Effect 2. Where do I find the cool assassin guy in the trailers? They don't give me a dossier on him and he looks like a fucking badass.

That said, Mass Effect 2 has met and exceeded my expectations so far. The only feature I'm not a fan of is the new ammuniton with clips. I'm using my original ME1 character who is an Adept, so I was used to having an upgraded heavy pistol with unlimited ammo. Now I constantly find myself running out of ammunition waiting for biotics to cool down.

I just unlocked him. Slight spoilers:

You get the option to go after him when you find all the people on your initial list then complete another mission I won't ruin. I will say, you are right about him being a badass. I haven't talked to him beyond the initial conversation recruiting him, but he is an awesome character.

I found myself running out of ammo a lot too so I switched to the 3 round burst SMG, which I'm like 90% sure Adepts can use. It has a 24 round clip and 200+ reserve ammo. I occasionally run out in extended fights, but if I do I just switch to my shotgun and charge in like a madman.

I played the first Mass Effect but didn't get through it mostly because the combat system felt extremely awkward and unwieldy. Someone said it felt more like a shooter now; I take it it's much more intuative now?

The combat is far better. It's less like ME1 and more like Gears of War with biotic and tech powers. I'm loving it.

I'm level 15 now and I have to say I think this is the best game I've played on 360. Granted, Western RPGs are probably my favorite genre, so I'm a little biased, but it's at the very least in my top 3. The character development really makes the game. I've done a few side missions for the various squad mates and they have all been awesome. The game is also longer than most this generation. I'm 14 hours in and I'd say I'm probably only half done at the most. Most games don't even make it to 14 hours to completion these days.
