That is so fucking retarded. You should go back to the store just to tell him that he is a dumbass. So I guess to him, blacks and mexicans get the shittiest followed by the white trash at Kmart get a little better. Then the white people who shop at Target and Best Buy get the best?
This is incredibly fucking stupid, as your instincts correctly told you. You don't need a huge hard drive to be able to save whole games there; even the smaller 20 GB X360 offering can do that. It also has absolutely nothing to do with the red ring of death. I generally avoid warranties like the plague. I don't know about this instance; does Microsoft repair X360s if you send them in? I should ask my friends about this. This is pretty funny; RPGs are probably the dumbest, least thinking intensive genre of games out there, which is why they're so popular among 10-12 year old kids. Bad, pretentious dialogue and characters aside, the combat system is incredibly basic and simple. Sports games, FPS's, and especially fighting games are way more complicated and strategy-intensive.
You're overgeneralizing. There are some incredibly hard and incredibly easy games in all of those genres. I especially have to disagree with sports games. 95% of them consist of finding the 2 or 3 plays that are incredibly overpowered and abusing the shit out of them. And @WickedBitch: If your son wants to play Halo I have two suggestions. First off, get an X-Box. The PC versions blow dick. Secondly, start him off with Halo: Combat Evolved and go from there to 2, 3, then ODST. Having him begin with ODST would be an absolute travesty.
Yeah, we get it you hate RPG's, you've posted as much before. Unfortunately you're dead wrong as a lot of RPG's are way more complicated and strategy-intensive than the average from the genres you describe. Dragon Age: Origins, and especially Demon's Souls which is hard as fuck and requires a lot of strategy and thinking are two that come to mind and were released in the last year or so.
It's hilarious that you say that because when my son used to play one of the NFL games on the PS2 (not Madden but I don't remember which one), he kicked the shit out of anyone he played by using the same plays repeatedly: Hail Mary for the touchdown 2 point conversion just for spite Onside kick to retain possession Repeat I've seen grown men reduced to tears for that shit. Thanks for the suggestion about the PC versions but that is not even a consideration. If it was, I would have bought L4D on Steam long ago and been past all this 360 nonsense. Frankly, I'm not sure if my PC can handle it, nor am I sure I want to find out. I will try to follow your advice for the order of the Halo games though, depending on what I can find. The aforementioned video store jumps at most requests that I make so I can probably get those used with some finagling. Thanks, man!
I've enjoyed a few! I thought those two were pretty fun, but lots of strategy and thinking? Give me a break. Even a simplistic fighting game has far more in the way of strategy, mechanics, frame data, priorities, etc. than those two combined. In fact, I'm suspicious of any claim that a primarily single player game is deeper than a primarily multiplayer game. Very, very rarely is that the case. I'll admit those two titles probably have more strategy than a poorly balanced sports game like Madden, but they're still quite simple, even among non-puzzle games.
That guy is an idiot. There is no difference between the consoles K-mart gets between the consoles that Best Buy gets. Seriously he was bullshitting you. For reference, I work for one of those companies.... Shop were there is stock. Alright so with what he is describing, you would need to modify/hack your X-box. Yeah it is really not a bad idea, it opens up a lot of doors with what you can do with your console. Bad news, however? It voids your warranty. The guys I know that mod their xbox's, know how to do it. Much less they can typically fix it if there is an issue. There are a lot of ad's for modding your xbox, problem is most of these people are more bravado than knowledgeable (hahaha, make your jokes now). I'll be honest about the "extended warranty" a certain large consumer electronic store recently had a policy where you could do a quick exchange of an xbox such as, "Oh your X-box is broke? Go grab one off the shelf and we will just take the new hard drive out, and it is yours." No longer, unfortunately there is actually shipping in, checking it out and deciding if they should repair it. I will say however my last xbox died around 1 year and 8 months and I went in their with the "extended warranty" and they gave me a brand new one no questions asked, to me it was worth the money. Whatever though, it is your choice as the consumer. But if you want to have any ground to stand on with a manufacturer, modifying your xbox will void that. Good luck!
I know dick-all about such things. Not only am I a woman but I am married to a man who understands even less about these things than I do. I usually have to rescue him from the sales people and I know they sharpen their fangs when they see me coming. Be that as it were, I feel that I can't really trust anyone to do any mods or anything to my consoles with any degree of honesty or fairness and I don't understand these things enough to do them myself. Besides, I don't mind doing things the "legit" way as long as I have a firm grasp on what the "legit" way is, y'know? You guys have been a wealth of knowledge and I can't thank y'all enough.
As other members have said... That's complete bullshit. A video game console is a video game console. It doesn't matter where it's being sold. The vendor doesn't manufacture it. Someone once tried to tell me that, too. Don't remember who. May have been a former coworker or someone. He was adamant that no one should ever buy any high-end electronic item from Walmart because their electronic inventory is all poorly made in Chinese sweatshops regardless of the brand. Wouldn't shut up about it. I didn't know how to politely tell him that he was an idiot.
Which is, of course, bullshit. I'm sure that Walmart's Durabrand items legitimately suck, but the Sony Blu-ray player (for example) that you're buying at Walmart is the same as the Sony Blu-ray player that you'd buy at Future Shop or Best Buy.
I'm not sure if its still going on but over at gamestop.com they are giving away free beta access to starcraft2 if you preorder the game from them. The only catch though is once you receive your beta code you can't cancel your preorder. No big deal, I was willing to sell my soul for a beta key. Now I know why I spent years of my life on the original, even in beta everything is super polished. Patches come out as needed to balance units, etc. The new units are giving me fits though. First match I walled in with terrans, and watched as a bunch of jet pack guys (reapers) jump up the back of my base and massacre my mineral line. Every other game that comes out now till Diablo3 is hardly relevant to me anymore. I am complete.
As much as I'm looking forward to Mario Galaxy 2, Other M and the new Zelda title, Diablo III will easily push those games aside when it's released.
I played Halo 3 online for a little bit and thought it was pretty fun, but then got caught up in Modern Warfare. For some reason I am super exited for Halo:Reach. I am actually going to buy a used copy of Halo:ODST so I can get in the beta.
I am ridiculously excited for Reach. It looks like they are going to incorporate elements of Modern Warfare and Bad Company 2 while still retaining the inherent Halo-ness. This thing will destroy my GPA. It's really ridiculous to consider that I have been a Halo fan (bordering on fanboy) since the first time I played it in 2003. I was in 8th grade, for Christ's sake. Now if only the storytelling was a bit more subtle. I can dream, can't I... I know I'm very late to the party on this one, but I tend to buy titles and leave them sitting around until I have a good block of time to play them. Assassin's Creed. I'm on the 8th guy of the 9 Al Muadin said I had to kill. So far, there hasn't been much strategy, the fighting is mediocre... It's very pretty, but it's like running the same mission over and over again, except having to survive a couple more guys with one move attacks each time. Is the second one better/more engaging? Is it even worth trying to find all these fucking flags?
Hah, same here. I'm playing through the first one now, and to prevent myself from going insane I think I'm just going to blow through the game to get the story and prep myself for the second one. F those flags.
Interestingly enough I am playing the Assassins Creed II right now. Hold in there guys, the first one was very much a prototype, a place holder if you will. Everything else comes together much better in the second one, I'm not talking about story either. Everything but the concept of the game changes. In fact, anyone that did not enjoy the first one and was hesitant to get the second one because of it. You need to change your mind right now, the Assassins Creed II is amazing. In fact I bet there would be more saying that if it didn't come out right around the time of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare 2, I can't tell you how many people put ACII to the backburner because of MW2.
I love the Assassin's Creed titles, but I'm going to bring your expectations down a bit. AC was all about generating a world that was breathtaking and gorgeous, but they failed with the gameplay. ACII was also about generating a world that was breathtaking and gorgeous, and they definitely improve on the first one. But they still need to work on the gameplay. I felt like ACII was a definite improvement, and certainly worth getting and playing, but it still falls a little short of that total game absorption that marks a good title. In short, get it, play it, but expect more to be blown away by how cool the graphics and things are than by the gameplay.
