I'm a big fan of Guile, but I can't pull off his U1 to save my life, so I stay away from him. I'd really like to get decent with him though. Is it the sort of thing you can only pull off with a stick?

On another note, check this video out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ESQmqIBfaUg. It's a Japanese documentary or something about the best SF player in the world. If you skip to the 7:45 mark and watch for a minute or so you can see how fast he can pump out Ryu's Super move. That shit is super impressive, and it's gotten me pumped to receive my stick in the mail, even though I know I'll never be able to touch that level of execution. I do find the way he holds the stick quite interesting though. Definitely something to check out.

I have played with a pad occasionally, and could get it out then, but I'm way more consistent with a stick.

That between fingers grip he uses is a popular/common one among stick players; it keeps from the stick moving around too much. Some people use a completely underhand grip while others put it between the middle and ring fingers instead. I would be curious to learn which one is optimal.

Daigo's execution is outstanding, but among the top Japanese players, he's actually considered ordinary (!) in that regard.

Quick note about the track day we hosted for Need For Speed yesterday. I'm so pissed I wasn't able to actually be there.

Tons of video footage was taken, and will be posted in the upcoming days.

Dorky or not, his methods, approach, and goal in that game are not far removed from his study of architecture. He drew lots of graphs and designs, calculated some basic mathematics, and then set to work "building" and "micromanaging" the structures. By no means was that a completely empty waste of time, like, say, going to the local Filipino bar and/or watching lots of movies. (Looking at myself!)

Bison is a solid rushdown charge character, Dudley is all about the 50/50 game leading to big damage, Viper is technical but rush heavy, Guy is rekka rushdown, Juri gets fireballs and her Ultra I allows her to do Magic Series combos (Light-Light-Medium-Medium-Heavy-Heavy). Abel is Rushdown/Mixup, Rufus has really solid pokes, but his offensive options got nerfed some in Super, Chun-Li starts off as a poking character until you get meter, then goes offensive. El Fuerte needs to be moving constantly to work his pressure strings, Makoto is pretty much pure rushdown, although she has a really hard time getting in. There's a good chunk of characters that can work rushdown.

Also, yeah, Daigo is amazing, but his domination is more of a mind state. Guys like Tokido, Momochi, RX, and high level Japanese Guilty Gear players have crazy good execution. They're basically arcade robots. Daigo just has that "it" factor, and he's been playing fighters competitively for a looooong time.

Sorry to change the subject, but does anyone play MLB 10 The Show? I felt like getting a good baseball game, so I picked it up because it got way better reviews than 2K10, but HOLY FUCK IT IS THE HARDEST VIDEO GAME I HAVE EVER PLAYED. I have batting on rookie, and I'm still lucky to pull off 5 hits in a game. I pitch okay, but I can't win if I can't make contact. I guess it's partly that I'm still having trouble with pitch recognition and not swinging at balls, but even when I do connect, 85% of the time it's into an out. Does anyone have any advice beyond "get better"?

I've been playing this too and have rather enjoyed it, but I did have the same troubles hitting. I've been playing the road to the show mode as a pitcher which takes a lot of the focus off hitting. I need to try playing some of the other modes, I think hitting in this game just takes a lot of practice. There really isn't any surefire method to hitting well other than getting used to it and being able to recognize pitches as they leave the pitchers hand, as well as developing discipline enough to not swing at bad pitches.

I've had three different years of this game, and I generally play as a pitcher. I jut really enjoy the dueling with batters aspect of that part of the game. It also taught me quite a bit about how pitching works, the first time I played it.

Just scored my second win. First one was a 2 out, bottom of the 9th 2-run homer by Melky Cabrera for the 3-2 win over the Nationals. Second was a 9-4 win over the Pirates with 2 HRs by Chipper and one immediately following by McCann. Those aren't exactly top notch teams but goddamn does it feel good winning this game. I put hitting back on veteran, started using power swing, and stopped trying to guess pitch, and it's helped immensely.

    Red Dead Redemption released tomorrow.

If they keep it more on the GTA side, and less State of Emergency, this will be an awesome game.

It will easily be the best western video game of all time.

It has already been getting some pretty impressive reviews, I'm looking forward to giving it a shot. I'm also interested to try Alan Wake which is coming out tomorrow too. If anyone picks it up, let me know how it is.

I was thinking it was a sign from God that Red Dead Redemption was sold out at all the game shops downtown. Unfortunately I felt compelled to make the drive to the suburbs anyway and pick it up.

I am guessing failing finals but enjoying virtual ponies are in my future.

It's better if you can look for patterns against the pitcher. Try to pay attention to what pitches and locations a pitcher will go to in certain situations. I also rarely, if ever, swing at the first pitch and generally walk a few times a game. Some games I struggle to get a few hits, others I'll score 10 runs.

This is without a doubt the best baseball game of all time.

I'm about three hours in on Red Dead Redemption. The game doesn't disappoint.

It's just as massive as any GTA, and the graphics are top notch.

You have a wanted level similar to GTA, but you're never free and clear unless you get a pardon letter or pay money.

Riding horses is tricky as they have stamina and will buck you if your push them too hard. There are also mini games like gambling to keep you busy.

My only complaint would be tied to the time period. Horses and six shooters just aren't as fun as spraying an Uzi out a Ferrari. But obviously, there's nothing that can be done about that.

Overall another solid release by Rockstar, who have come to define sandbox games- 5/5

If the trailers were any indication, the weapons are going to get way cooler.

Five-Finger Fillet has me addicted. Red Dead is exactly what I was hoping for: a combo between Gun and GTA. My only problem with it at this point is you don't seem to be able to run down whores with your horse like you could in Gun, but maybe I'm just not trying hard enough.

Fair warning, if you do run a whore down with your horse, you will get a bounty on you. Found that out the hard way, then of course your honor takes a plunge because you bribed the cop $3.
