If you don't even like fighting games, why are you excited about Mortal Kombat, then? If it's the graphics, there are a number of 2D and arguably some 3D fighters that are far superior.
1) Nostalgia - I spent most of my teenage years stoned to the gills/tripping in someone's basement watching the guys play MKII for hours. 2) Fatalities - how many other games have them? There are some neat new ones. Have you seen the stage demo video? 3) Alright. That's all I've got. Until SSB Brawl came out, I had never played a SSB game because of my dislike of the fighting genre. But again, it's because my ass gets unceremoniously kicked by whoever I'm playing against because I can never do the fucking button combination fast enough. My kids, especially my 11 year old, like those kinds of games though so I welcome your opinion of which ones are the best if you care to give it.
I'm not really sure about Skyward Sword. In my opinion, Ocarina of Time and Twilight Princess, with their darker themes, made the game more enjoyable and more difficult to play through. This one seems to be all bright and cheery, with freaking arrows telling you what to hit at. I thought the point of the game was to be a giant puzzle, not a dead giveaway. Hopefully it won't be another Majora's Mask.
Now see, I am one of the few who actually liked Majora's Mask, despite it being weird as shit (that's probably why I like it actually). I probably shouldn't admit this here - I don't admit it often for the arguments it creates but I actually like Majora's Mask better than Ocarina. While I loved Twilight Princess, even more so for its darkness, I don't mind the lighter-style Zelda games. Windwaker was quite fun, save for all the sailing bullshit.
I liked Mortal Kombat as a kid too, but as a fighting game, it offers little. No depth, strategy, horrible balance, and similar characters. Especially nowadays, when fatalities aren't quite so ground-breaking and amazing. If complicated, interesting games requiring good dexterity aren't a problem, I would get Guilty Gear (2D) and Virtua Fighter 5 (3D). Otherwise, I would go with Super Street Fighter 4 (2D) and Tekken 6 (3D).
I don't mind the lighter themes either, but Wind Waker was a DS game that seemed to be a holdover before they released the real project (Twilight Princess). If Skyward Sword has been all they have been working on since TP, then I am a little disappointed. They took such a huge leap in a good direction, and it seems they have veered away from it again to do a more fluff game, like they did after Ocarina of Time. Also, what's up with Link's pants? They look silly.
I think you're thinking of Phantom Hourglass which was for the DS and looked very similar in style to Wind Waker, which was for the Gamecube and came out in 2003, long before they started working on Twilight Princess. Both games were very cartoon-y and had a lot of sailing to them but the Wind Waker environment was vast with long, obnoxious stretches of sea with nothing around. What there was between the sailing was great though! I played and beat Phantom Hourglass but wasn't that enthused with it. It had very little replay value, even with the multiplayer action. I hadn't noticed that until you said something but you're right! They're freaking baggy! What kind of pansy-ass bullshit is that? He's almost wearing MC Hammer pants! What, there were no tailors in Hyrule?
I never understood the gender divide around video games before. Suddenly it's clear why women shouldn't be allowed to play fucking video games. You're critticising Link's fucking wardrobe for being out of fashion? Seriously? He wears a fucking tunic and rolled down ankle boots for fuck sake.
Folks who play Eve, what corp are you guys in, and why? I'm currently in Eve University, since I'm a fairly new player (about 2 months in) and I thought it would be cool to get some perspective.
Anyone here played or have opinions on APB? I've read some articles and info on it, and there are some things that sound really cool, but I haven't heard anything about it that I wasn't actively looking for, which worries me.
Fileplanet is giving out free beta keys for the Medal of Honor Beta for PC, Xbox 360, and PS3. The Xbox beta has been delayed up the ass so those keys aren't yet available. Took me two seconds to sign up and grab a PS3 key and I'm already downloading the client on my console now. I heard the game is a cross between Bad Company 2 and Modern Warfare 2 and to be honest, it looks kind of lame. Free is free, though and I'll definitely check this shit out. http://www.fileplanet.com/promotions/medal-of-honor/
I can't edit the previous post but after 5 minutes of playing this game I've come to realize the previews were wrong about how its like Battlefield and Modern Warfare 2 merged together. Its more like Battlefield and old Medal of Honor games put together. Battlefield's shitty graphics with Medal of Honor's shitty controls and gameplay. Pass.
Simmer down, man. Women'll criticise anything, don'tcha know! We're just a little more observant is all (well, Roxanne is, apparently). Link normally wears tights (haha, yeah) but in this new game, he is actually wearing pants and baggy, gay-ass looking pants at that. Have none of your favorite video game characters changed their appearance and you've though "Man, he looks ridiculous now!"? I've also complained about them changing narrators on How Its Made. Any deviation from the norm is cause for comment.
I will pass your point along to the millions of boys who cried their eyes out over the Prince of Persia wearing a scarf, to the extent that the developers changed his outfit back to its original in the latest release. But really, I'm criticizing the weird way the art directors took this game, from the overly chipper imagery to the strange revamping of Link's outfit. The Zelda games seem to jump around in terms of progress, unlike other games where they always try to make them bigger/better/more polished. I am just bitter that they decided to deviate away from the path they were taking with Twilight Princess, which I think was an insanely good game with wonderful graphics.
So much unrest over something that will literally have no impact on the way that Skyward Sword plays. I noticed Link's new pants right away and I immediately disregarded the change. Not a big deal. I'm very much looking forward to Skyward Sword and I don't care that the game will be brighter and more cartoonish than Twilight Princess. Very good game. Absolutely. And I did enjoy how it looked, but I eventually grew tired of everything being a different shade of brown.
You know the only thing gayer than baggy pants? Guys in tights. That and roller blades. Maybe they could get link a sweet set of skates.
Just picked up Alan Wake, excellent game so far. The pacing is non-stop and the camera slowly turns to tunnel vision as you fall behind. Only a few hours in, but strong performance so far.
I ended up starting a new Minnie character, but my plan is to join Interstellar Brotherhood of Gravediggers [MBALM]. Yeah, yeah highsec warfare is ghey, whatever. I just want PvP with convenient supply lines. To be honest the whole 0.0 warfare with POS bashing and lagfests doesn't appeal to me.
There really is no more POS bashing with the new sov. I just love 0.0 cause i can use frigate and dont have to worry about gate guns. Plus i have two accounts, one is pure pvp, the other is pure pve(40Mill sp, with 20mill in science). I really dont play alot anymore, but i still keep my accounts active, and my industrial toon, just keeps cranking out bpc and selling them, but my fighter toon, just keeps draining the money.
I got Crackdown 2 on Tuesday and it's freaking awsome. So far everything that was cool about Crackdown has been retained in 2, which is great, although I haven't found a lot of advancements in the single player over the original, so it really feels like you're playing the original just with some different objectives. The gameplay is pretty much exactly the same, which is fine because the gameplay in the original was really good. It even takes place in the same city with mostly the same layout, although the models are different to reflect the more or less zombie apocolypse that has occurred. Personally I would've preferred if they left the gameplay intact but had a different setting because there wasn't really that sense of exploration because I more or less explored everything in the first game. I haven't tried any of the online modes yet however. Bottom line is if you liked the 1st you'll like the sequel, and if you've never played either and are looking for a sandbox 3rd person shooter just pick up the sequel and ignore the original, because the sequel has pretty much everything the original does plus zombies.
