I don't have Civ 5, but Civ 4 and 3 were extremely replayable. If playing multiplayer, games can takes hours. The AI can be stupid (easy) to nearly impossible to beat on the hardest settings.

I loved Civ 3, Civ 4 was ok. I might pick up Civ 5 sometime soon, though.

NBA Jam on PS3 is awesome to play after a few drinks with mates. Rocked it out for half an hour before heading out on the weekend and almost ended in a punch-up so it's just as good as the original. Heaps of fun.

My brother will be here tomorrow, so I need to load the Wii Shop Channel and buy River City Ransom already. Been putting it off for too long. Some beer and playing that game without doing anything productive is always a good time. I'm thinking a baseball game using a steel pipe and some brass knucks.

So they just released Secret of Mana for the ipod (and iphone). I fucking LOVE that game and it would be awesome to have it for long trips when I don't bring a laptop... but it's $8.99 and I'm cheap as shit, seriously conflicted here.

I hate everyone on this thread. Why didn't anyone tell me about Assassin's Creed 2 earlier? This game is fucking fun as shit! I can't fucking put the game down. I literally had to keep telling myself. "Okay, 5 more minutes. Okay, 5 more minutes. Okay, 9:30, I'm stopping." So I finally stopped playing at 12:05. It's fucking crack cocaine. I've played maybe 5-6 hours, and I already can't wait for Brotherhood.

The only thing that is prying me off ACII is Final Fantasy XIII. I don't know why people aren't in love with the game, maybe they're playing on shitty TVs. The game is fucking beautiful. I'm simply enchanted playing it. My only complaint is the whole "You control one person at a time" but the Paradigm Shift thing is cool. I know the game is a little linear compared to previous FFs but they have to keep moving forward and I hate to compare games to their predecessors and take them on their own merits. And I haven't even gotten to Limit Breaks or whatever the equivalent is yet. Can't fucking wait!

Actually if you do some of the optional content after the main storyline you'll find that being able to beat some of these creatures will require a lot more input and decisionmaking in combat than a lot of previous FF games. You'll need to carefully determine which paradigms you want to bring to the fight and make a lot of quick decisions switching between them during the fight. Some of those fights I was switching paradigms and manually inputting actions so much it felt more like playing a button masher than a turn-based RPG.

Saying FF13 is a little linear is like saying Magic Johnson has a little HIV. Going in one direction for 30 hours until the world opens up is not what I'd call fun. Sure it sets a benchmark for beautiful graphics and CGI cut-scenes but even that isn't enough to overcome pressing up for 30 HOURS. STRAIGHT.

I'm just about out of the crystal lake so I'm not there yet. I'm also coming off playing the least linear game ever made in our generation: FallOut 3, so I'm not dying for free-range roaming. I don't think I'm really a big fan of it. I still haven't beat GTA IV. And to destroy your analogy...uh, Magic Johnson looks pretty fucking healthy to me, and probably could beat both of us in basketball. Just saying.

Haven't finished GTA4 either. I just can't stand playing that game. It's a PS2 idea on a PS3. Or maybe I've outgrown the whole series, which is unlikely.

AC2 is very fun though, although a bit too straightforward. I do love how they make you think before acting instead of just charging in. Like the mission with 10 armored dudes on the bridge, good times.

No idea how in GTA IV they completely shit the bed with actually having a real reason for you to build up all your money. Vice City had you buying property and all of that, not in GTA IV yet. I have to be at least 10 hours in and there is nothing for you to build or invest in. Total bullshit. It's not even as good as the PS2 idea. Shouldn't take this long for the game to establish that your real end goal is X, and you have to do all these things to build up. Now you're just some Eastern Euro guy with a shady past doing jobs because there is nothing else to do. Completely retarded. Nothing is stopping the fucker from going and working at Best Buy.

I mean after San Andreas how could you go back to doing less? I loved how all the reviews mentioned that the game lacked the depth of its predecessors but was still somehow a huge leap forward and thus a 10/10 game. Did it have the same sarcastic bent that made the series fun? Yeah. Did it really compare to the game play of the others? Not really. Im really surprised they haven't made a full fledged sequel yet, ie not just episodes.

San Andreas completely blows away IV. Bigger world, better characters, better story, more humor, pretty much everything except the graphics was better in SA.

    I didn't finish GTAIV either.

To be fair I never finished GTA:SA. I bought it the day it came out, played 2/3 the way through it, then some dipshit punched a bunch of cheats into my game and SAVED it during a party I had. So I restarted it so as to finish the game without cheats. I make it to about the same part I was at before (finishing the San Fransisco island) and then BAM some dipshit breaks into my apartment and steals my PS2 with the game inside. I swear it could have been just a little less shitty if they had just left my memory card. I never bought a new version of the game.

But I have to say, there were so many more awesome features in that game. The turf war section was the fucking shit, though it gets taken from you. Here's hoping GTAIV:(whatever) improves back to the past greatness.

This reminds me of a perennial video game problem that drives me nuts: Later sequels losing features. The most grotesque example is Deus Ex where the first game was awesome and had really cool little features in it that the second game just... murdered. It was awful. All the RPG-like fine tuning of the first game was killed in the second (though I must admit that I could barely play the second).

Another example is the civilopedia from Civ 4. Civ 3 has a fantastic reference in the game called the civilopedia where you can look up damn near everything *and* have it cross-referenced via hyperlink to other stuff in it so you could easily teach yourself all about, say, diplomacy by jumping around with ease. Civ 4, on the other hand, made Civilopedia navigation so cumbersome that it actually kept me from wanting to play the game because of how tedious looking up stuff became when it came time to make a decision.

Well Deus Ex wasn't perennial. Wasn't there like 4-5 years between the games? Maybe even more? Also the same teams didn't work on the games, same company but different people entirely. Also the sequel suffered from having to move to console which was probably the biggest fucking of it all. I'm also happier than Kentucky Cousin at a family reunion about Mass Effect 3 coming to the PS3. I played the demo for ME2, but it didn't feel much different than what I played on PC just a few months earlier even though its "operating off the ME3 engine." Still love the game, just wish I could get my original character's face to look the same on the PS3.

Could anyone reccomend some good shooters for computer? I'm looking for something that is more single player and story mode focused as opposed to mulit-player. Killing monsters would be preferable. Any other cool story mode games for computer are welcome even if they aren't shooters. I know it's kind of lame to ask this since I should already know, but I haven't played many computer games for awhile.

And why is it that in SC2 the allies that bitch all game are always the shittiest players? The last moron made 1/3 the units I did and wouldn't stop whining all fucking game. He wasn't even the one being attacked either. I wish these people would just kill themselves. Ok, just had to vent about that.

Well, if you liked Diablo you'd probably like Borderlands, although the story is pretty weak and most of the enemies are guys and not monsters.

Terrible players always whine and cry when they're not getting carried. They want everyone else to be A+ awsome do they don't have to put in any effort at all.

I don't mean to derail you guys, but I found an offer that Canadians might be interested in.

Future shop is offering a $10 discount on pre-orders for some big titles (killzone, marvel vs capcom). Offer ends today though, here's the site: <a class="postlink" href="http://www.futureshop.ca/Search/SearchResults.aspx?q=10147070%2010150391%2010147607%2010147071%2010147885%2010147611&lang=en" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.futureshop.ca/Search/SearchR ... 11&lang=en</a>

I just got a Kinect for Christmas and was wondering if anyone has any advice for games. I got the sports one as a gift too. Any others worth getting yet.
