This was how I felt about the previous versions. Although it could be a real pain moving on when you didn’t have much cash as soon it got to the point where you have so much that it’s not an issue anymore an element of the game was lost. It’s not a major issue but the most I enjoyed playing the GT games was right at the beginning when I was trying to scrape the cash together to get some mod for a car in order to finish a race.

When I heard that they were going to include car damage in GT5 I thought that may be you would have to pay for any damage to your car, just to make it a bit more interesting.

It’s still a great game though.

If you repeatedly fuck up your ride during a race, you'll end up having to pay TONS of credits in order to restore body rigidity. Over 100.000 is not uncommon, I've gotten it up to half a million on the more expensive cars. Even in-race the damage is clearly visible. Your front bumper won't come off but it'll be visibly out of place and damaged.

In practice mode you can turn on mechanical damage, though. I've gone in there with a random car to see what it did. It just cripples the car's acceleration and turning, making it turn to one side.

Maybe they'll patch it so mechanical damage will be active in online mode or in A-Spec in the later levels.. I doubt it though, seems like it would be a BIG patch.

League of Legends has its faults but man it can be an intense game. Parker and I just did a game that lasted an hour and was dead close the way through and I had an absolute blast.

Its a DotA game that is free to download and play, few dozen avatars to choose from, each week a new set are rotated in as free. But you unlock the ones you like or want to try out as well. Then you have 'runes' to maximize your stats and abilities as well as 'masteries' for skill points. So its kind of a WoWish PVP style game.

If any of you try it out, add me on there; my name is the same as here.

I'm on there about level 14 or 15 and really like it. Games usually last less than an hour which is usually about the max I get to play anyway. So far my favorite character has been Sion who can become absolutely brutal endgame.

My name on there is theChowda. I'm so hit or miss time wise that it'd be impossible to plan a time to play, but if I see you guys on it'd be fun to get a team going.

I'm on there too, name's Devildogkill. Level 15 I think and I wipe the floor with fiddlesticks. I've been trying to play tryndamere but have yet to get good with him after about a weeks of trying. I'll add some you guys when I get on next.

LoL tag: Javane. Got games in with Kona and Diablo, definitely up for more. I'm good with Ezreal and Trist. Played with Cassiopeia and Swain during rotations and they're awesome. Saving up for Cass again. Ryze was also fun to play with, mainly because he's so overpowered.

    Ryze is the ultimate nuke.

I play Sivir 90% of the time. Also having fun working on Xin Zhao and Blitzcrank.

I've got a couple friends that play extremely well so we can get some premade 5 v 5 games some time.

Riot Games could easily charge a $1-5 a month for that game and make a profit. The game is so simple but jesus it is crack cocaine. I didn't think I'd be playing it as much as I have been but its fun as hell. And its free! They were smart to monetize the right things and keep the right things away from being purchased with cash likes runes.

The only thing that crushes me about the game is when you get into a game, and you know you're fucked because its obvious you're on a team with 12 year olds or people that flat out don't speak English. Not sure which is the worse of the two evils.

Anyway, I'll be whoring today unfortunately.

My big thing is when you have someone on your team leave early and you're stuck playing 4vs5. It's almost impossible to win that way. I don't know of a way to fix it besides having people join games in progress, but I don't really like that idea. A lot of times the people leave because they've sucked it up and now that team is usually winning, so why would someone want to join a losing game? Kind of like in Call of Duty. Nothing sucks more than joining a game and getting to play for 15 seconds because you got put on a team down 9800-4500.

I'm on a six game win streak since I switched back to Sivir. 11/1/7 last game, got ganked in mid early and then went on to rape face with 11 kills in a row until they surrendered.

    Fucking nasty.

I just hit level 30 on LoL and am trying to get some ranked games going, if anyone's interested.

My ingame name is Solcon, usually play Warwick but trying to learn Janna as well. Usually play 10-12CST so add me if you need a 5th. Won't play 3s though, some chars are so overpowered in twisted treeline it ruins it for me.

During this same time, I went on a 3 game losing streak where we could have won if we didn't have 1 or more tanks deciding to go jungling in the middle of a Inhib turret push. Its frustrating.

Snapped it earlier, lost a 3 v 5. Our jungler left when he was killed by blue golem at level 1. Then our tank left at level 5.

I'm about to get on with some friends, we could use a 4th/5th and have a ventrilo server. Hop on and message me, konatown.

Is this game at all accessible for someone who has no experience whatsoever with DotA or any of its other spinoffs? I'm generally pretty good at video games, and this sounds like fun, but yall are talking about shit and words that mean nothing at all to me. Is there like a non-multiplayer, learn-what-the-fuck-is-going-on mode, or is it more "good luck, hope your team doesn't get too pissed at you for not knowing what you're doing!"?

Also, is vent/mic pretty much required to have any fun/not piss off everyone else? I've always been kinda weirded out by talking at my computer

It's really easy to pick up and it's free to play at http://www.leagueoflegends.com/. There's a tutorial mode that introduces you to how to play, the basics, some tactics, items, etc. They arrange the teams in a way that the new guys play together and the higher level guys are separate. The whole talking thing is almost never done, that was the first time I've seen someone talk about it. Most of the talking is in the in-game chat.

Download it and try for yourself, it's pretty fun.

Yeah, download it and play the tutorial mode.

You pick a champion that has a unique passive spell, 3 fairly unique, regular spells and a unique ultimate that you unlock at level 6 of the champion in game. Then you pick 2 'summoner spells' like teleport or heal.

There are new champions that are available every week, traditional RPG classes like caster, ranged DPS, melee DPS, tanks, healers and hybrids of em all.

Each game you play gives you XP points and IP points, the XP points go towards your summoner level, at each level up you get a new slot to put a rune that will have some attribute like + attack speed, you also will get a mastery point to put in your talent trees. Maximum of 30 levels. The IP points can be used to buy runes and unlock champions so you can play them at any time.

There are 2 game modes, 3v3 and 5v5. Then in each of those there are nonranked and ladder games. I haven't messed with ladder because the competition level goes way past fun and right into mega-nerd. I play 5 v 5 only, usually have 2-3 friends with me so we get to communicate well and minimize the chances of a gimp team, like if we get a bad player stuck on our team, or they leave, or if its just a bad team roster.

Shit, just DL, play the tutorial, hop in a game with some of the TiB veteran players and see how you like it.

Yep, what those two just said. And don't enter the game thinking about silly things like KDR and win streaks. No matter how good you are, the game will cool you off using its matchmaking system. I've been very, very cool recently. The tutorial is sweet, and there is a custom game mode to try out purchased champions. It's like chess, the rules are simple, but complicated tactics can occur. The items and runes take things to different levels also. Most people find they play with a certain style of champion and that's their thing. I'm stuck in range champion mode. I cannot play with a Melee character to save my life.

Also, TS/Vent is probably a bad idea, unless you consistently have a pre-made of everyone on it. Because everyone needs to work together in the game, unless the other team is terrible. Prepare to play with 10 year olds that have no idea what their doing and foreigners of the like. I've had a crazy streak of Brazilian and French (Canadian) people recently. They can speak English most of the time, just they refuse to all of the time, except when they're are yelling at you because you got ganked by 5 people and they didn't come to help you. This is an example, not bitterness, fucking assholes...

I have a few questions about this game. I read above that there is EXP and levels; how significant are they in affecting gameplay?

That is, can someone with perfect skills and knowledge of the game use a level 1 character to beat virtually any opponent? If not, is there a lot of grinding involved to get to the top level or not?

Also, how much of this game is "strategy" and how much of it is "dexterity/reactions/execution"? Is the execution requirement closer to that of a Starcraft (insanely high) or an Age of Empires (significant, but much lower)? Or is it even closer to turn-based strategy in that regard? Thanks ahead of time.

Levels and exp are important up to a certain point, kind of.

    There are 30 levels with 3 tiers, 1-9, 10-19, 20-30.

As you level, you unlock slots on your rune page (runes are bought with IP (xp)). Runes are important when you get to the third tier, in the lower tiers they are useful. In third tier, they are almost necessary to be successful.

Also, you also acquire summoner spells (over-reaching skills which any champion that you play as has access too). At level 12, you can use all of the different summoner spells.

As a level 1, you are generally never placed into random matches with level 30s. The matchmaking system tends to group you into the same tier at least.

There isn't really grinding per se, as the only way to get xp is to play in matches against other players.

If you have ever played the DotA mod from Warcraft 3, this is exactly like it.

If you have not played it, it is a very different type of game.

Strategy is huge, the biggest factor is map awareness which is knowing vaguely where all the enemies are on the map, and their absences allow you to know if it is safe to move forward or not. Every champion is different so knowing how to play each champion gives you the knowledge to know their weaknesses and how to exploit them. For example, there is a character named Ryze who I've seen people discussing who is a mage. His weakness is that he burns all of his 4 abilities in one go and then has nothing for several seconds. If you survive or come in after he has used his combo he is relatively easy to kill, if you are able to kill him before cooldowns refresh that is.

It is somewhat twitchy in that you have to react quickly to different abilities being used by your opponents in order to counter them and position your champion out of harms way.

The whole game is very back and forth oriented about knowing when and where to attack and generally being patient and methodical.

I will tell you that if you haven't played before you will get stomped the first couple of games. It is very different than most games and you will need to get accustomed to things.

It is also free, so download it and test it out!

My in-game name is LikwidNinja for any of you guys who want to play. I am level 30 and can also answer questions.

Ugh. So essentially, a level 1 would be squashed like a bug against a level 30, regardless of how good or bad their relative strategy? Fine; how long does it take to get to level 30?

I have a little bit; its execution requirements aren't as high as Starcraft, but are still quite demanding. You have to build up very quickly and have fast reactions.

Well, I would certainly hope so! A good, deep game is one where I get stomped for the first couple hundred games before my abilities become respectable.

Anyways, thanks for the response. If getting to level 30 and the exciting part of the game doesn't take too long, I'll definitely give it a try.
