Anyone know of a good wireless video game controller for the PC? Look up the Amazon trade in value on those games and smack yourself for being a moron for missing out on all that money.
Can't support this enough, although having a crappy PC is probably the least important reason you should visit the site. The games are either 5.99$ or 9.99$ and have the same price world-wide (no 1:1 $-€ conversion). There's no DRM whatsoever, the games are pretty much all Vista and 7 compatible and wrapped up in a nice installer. If you can handle the shitty graphics (hell, if you get the high rez mod for the Infinity engine games, the painted backgrounds still look gorgeous), then story and content-wize, there are some great great games there. I myself am the proud owner of 10 oldies and have my eye on 5 more.
I refuse to do this knowing it was the right thing to do. I didn't want to do it, but for some reason I didn't think of Amazon. I'm never going to sell to GameStop again, never, ever ever. I just wanted to get this shit out the way, and I went because I was depressed over losing weeks of gaming hours due to my PS3 death. It was just so convenient, but never again. Frank - something Logitech usually gets the job done. I know they have them.
While Amazon is a good bet, I would strongly suggest checking Best Buy first. I brought back Assassin's Creed 2 and Left 4 Dead 2 a couple weeks ago. Amazon listed their trade-in values at about $8 and $10. Best Buy gave me $15 for each. That's $30 total. Side note: I then took said $30 and got AC: Brotherhood, which was temporarily marked down from its current price of $60 to $40. $10 out of my pocket for a 2-month old blockbuster. I rule.
I'm pretty sure that Microsoft makes a PC version of the 360 controller that works right out the box. You can also download a driver program that lets your PS3 controller work with a PC as well. I don't know the specifics on how to do it, but with a little googling it should be easy to figure out.
Yeah, I pretty much refuse to go into a Gamestop these days. I hate going in to buy one simple thing and getting constantly hassled to preorder some upcoming title or sign up for a membership card so I can buy used games. I buy all my stuff at Best Buy these days (or amazon when I don't mind waiting for it to be delivered), except for when I bought LBP2, Best Buy was sold out so I had to go to Gamestop. I kid you not, the whole store smelled like shit. They must have had some sewage issues or something, but I couldn't wait to get out of there. Finally got around to playing Dead Space 2 and it is just as good as I expected. I'm trying to get through it before Tuesday because that's when Dragon Age 2 comes out, and I'm pretty pumped for that one.
My first 360 controller was initially used on the PC. It works the same way; all it needs to work is a dongle that plugs into your PC via USB. That picks up the wireless controller, and thus enables you to play on your PC. I used it to play the first Assassin's Creed game, and it worked perfectly.
Ok, for anyone who hasn't tried it: NBA 2k11 is so realistic... (How realistic is it???) It is so realistic, I actually YELL at my team for fucking up, just like a real game. How's the new Castlevania game? I downloaded the Demo, is it worth getting?
Are you talking about "Lords of Shadow"? Save your money dude; Castlevania is probably my favorite franchise ever, but even I can't recommend this game. It's a very generic hack-and-slash action adventure with repetitive combat and simplistic mechanics. In fact, it's actually worse than the previous 3D Castlevanias in that genre.
Fake God of War clone basically. Or actually, even worse, it's more of a Dante's Inferno clone, which was a God of War clone.
I don't have the time or patience to write out a proper review for Dragon Age 2, but here's my initial impressions of the game. Bad Not being able to switch out your companions' armor and in some cases weapons (this is a major gripe of mine). Combat seems a lot more confusing. No more skills whatsoever (ex: lockpicking is entirely dependent on cunning and it's in stages. All "standard" locks require 20 cunning, no ifs ands or butts etc etc.). No more traps, no more grenades, and the looting system now literally gives you "junk". An overall loss of customization (which for me is why I play RPGs in the first place). Good The overall story seems pretty decent so far. Graphics, yes it is a pretty game. The conversation system is nice. The UI is the best I've seen for any RPG. Talent trees, a great design decision to move away from linear progression, and allowing players to narrow their focus more. At least you can hear your character talk now. So yeah overall Dragon Age 2 is a great game, but Bioware is definitely pushing into action game land. The best way to describe this game is "Mass Effect with magic missiles". A lot of customization has been lost even since Dragon Age: Origins, you're one of three classes and one of two sexes. Maybe I'm just a crotchety old fuck when it comes to RPGS, but I like customization. I liked being able to pick out of eight or nine classes and half a dozen races in Baldur's Gate way back when.
I'm the same way, I love the deep customization in RPG's and it seems that most of them are moving away from that, sadly. That was actually my biggest gripe about ME2. Hell, I was that guy in FFX that took the time to get the blank weapons and 'customize' them to have all the shit like break hp/damage limit and auto haste, etc. I've been thinking a lot lately as to how I would kill to have a good old fashion RPG with turn based combat and lots of customization like in the old days. But enough of that, back to DA2. Like I said, that was one of the things I was afraid of. From the demo it looks like the talent trees are pretty cool and will work well, but I haven't seen anything about "advanced classes" like they had in DA:O, I loved my Arcane Warrior. Also, I'm surprised you say you liked the dialogue options, from playing the demo it all looked like every option you had was "nice response, joke response, dick response". What version are you playing? I played the demo on PC and really liked the interface as I felt I had more control with the mouse and I liked having a full action bar. However I am still trying to decide what to actually buy it for, I'm hoping to see some reviews before I get off work to help me decide. On the PC I expect the graphics to be better (that's how it was for DA:O) and I think I will like the UI better (plus the option for mods if I'm interested). On the 360 I get to import my save game from Origins, plus now that I am old and lazy I prefer to lean back or lay in bed with a controller opposed to leaning forward over a mouse and keyboard.
I'm playing the PC version, there are indeed advanced classes but they're unlocked by "specialization points" don't know how that system works yet. TBH I can't see the Xbox version being that different what with how dumbed down everything is.
OK, sorry if this is a dumb question... Is there anyway my actual PS3 can be hacked? The only game I've been playing as of late has been Modern Warfare 2 and I know there are a lot of hackers on there. I don't know much about these issues but my PS3 cannot find the IP address. I've restartrd my modem and router both like the system suggested but neither worked. I'm getting the error message : 80130182 Any help would be greatly appreciated.
PS3 support page. It says it doesn't detect an internet connection. Someplace, something is fucked. Try hooking up a wired connection and see if that works. If not, your system's network card may be fucked.
Just picked up my copy of Dragon Age II(PS3), only played it for a little bit, crashed twice, same thing as the original Dragon Age, crashed all the time, took them 2-3 weeks to patch it. So far my first impressions, I liked the old talent tree's better, easy to see where you wanted to go, not that big of a deal. I like that you can import the story line from your old saves so the story telling in this game is what you actually did. Combat seems to be about that same. So far so good, i just hope the story line was as good as the first.
I haven't played very far into DA2 yet, mainly because I can't decide which class I want to play, that and having been busy that past two days. I usually play the mage class in fantasy RPG's like this, but looking at all the talents for the mages I'm not really all that impressed. Also: Spoiler If you play the mage, your sister gets killed in the battle with the ogre in the beginning. If you play a warrior or a rogue, your brother dies. I had planned to set the sister up as a backup mage with healing and supoort spells. Also the brother is a whiney bitch. I played through the opening part again as a rogue, and looking at their talents it looks like that could be fun. Lots of crits and sneaking around the battlefield to get behind people. I may even start over again tonight to play through the beginning as a warrior to check it out. The 2H all out dps warrior seems like it could be fun. So far though I think I'll like this game well enough, I really enjoyed the first one. Having played the demo on PC, there are a few things about the controls and interface that I liked better than the 360 version (such as targeting and the fact that the basic attack was an auto attack on the PC, instead of having to mash the A button all day long on the 360), but oh well, its too late to change now. I am worried about how the story is going to turn out, from the reviews I read it seems like its not as focused as the first one, but it also looks like all the questing is fun and well written. I plan on getting lots of play time in tonight, so we'll see how it goes.
I have about ten hours into DA2 now, so I figure I can pass judgment. Bottom line: it's a good game - prettier and more refined than the first - but the lack of customization and focused main story is a big let down. I equate DA to being more along the lines of Knights of the Old Republic, while DA2 feels more like Mass Effect. Personally, the first four hours I played didn't feel like it was part of the same franchise as the original. The visuals just didn't fit with the DA universe I knew. The area where you fight the troll was supposed to be just outside Lothering. In DA, that was a mostly wooded area and grassy. In the sequel, it's rocky and barren. The continuity just wasn't there. Once you left Ferelden, the visuals became very Pirates of the Caribbean and not DA. The other thing that bothered me is that all the Dalish have Irish accents now. That wasn't the case in DA. However, I got used to it after a while. My two other complaints are the re-use of areas and the lack of focus in the main story. In the first game, you got a really awesome sense of epic adventure and scale because you went to so many different places. In DA2 you do everything in one city. The scale and feeling of exploration doesn't happen until later in the game (see spoiler below). Also, for the first six hours or so, you have no clear direction with a main story. You're essentially just doing a shitload of side quests trying to get 50 sovereigns. If it makes any difference: Spoiler It doesn't matter who you choose. You don't get to keep them. Bethany dies in the Deep Roads at the end of the quest. That said, the Deep Roads is the first time DA2 will feel like the original, get the story rolling and become a very strong game. Also, interact with Sandal as much as possible. Fucking hilarious. In fact, pretty much any side dialogue between Isabella or Verric and the rest of the party is funny as shit.
My DA2 impression so far, about 5 hours in. I'm playing a rogue, since I like doing it from behind. For the record, I played the original, expansion and all the DLC. The stuff I like so far: All the women have extremely large, firm breasts. There's a lot less random barrels and shit I have to look in to grab loot that may or may not be awesome. I couldn't not miss loot, no matter how shitty it was. I also like how the numbered star system tells me off the bat what is and isn't an upgrade. The stuff I don't like so far: Combat has turned into pretty much mashing the A button, then using Explosive Shot to finish them off. You can no longer outfit your companions with new gear, other than weapons and trinkets. This makes a shitload of armor damn near useless for anything other than money. I hate the fact that I have to listen to every single branching dialogue tree to get additional information as opposed to just intimidating or charming them in the first game. I also don't feel like any of my decisions are making a noticeable effect on the game, but this could be because I've done jackshit but try to make money so far. This is just subjective, but the new darkspawn look is shit compared to the last game. Darkspawn look like mutated Barakas from Mortal Kombat instead of stuff that would make you shit your pants like the Ogre did when you first saw him in the first game. 3/5.
