Sadly blunt wraps are being banned in my province so a group of us had a blunt party last night in memory of the good times. We matched each blunt with a type of BBQd meat and by meat three I was gooned and by meat six it was time to go home.
That's exactly what I thought! I live right next to Mexico, so weed and coke prices are lower than most other places in the country; conversely, there is a lot of stuff you can't get down here (acid, shrooms, ecstasy, meth if you're into that). There is other stuff that is brought down from up north (prescription pills), so the price is higher. Anyway, coke is a big thing down here, and easier to get than weed (usually). It goes for $40 a gram, and $80-100 for an eightball. HOWEVER, in the last 5 years or so, the quality has gone so far down the toilet that I won't even do it if it's offered to me for free. I guess that is for the best. I haven't bought weed in years, so I can't give you an accurate estimate about the different prices; however, a friend of mine bought a pound of schwag to split up for $120 a few months ago.
I'm in DC, so these are city prices. Good coke is $60 a g, 160/170 a ball. Weed is generally $55-60 for an eighth and $100-110 for a quarter of high quality.
Xanax is relatively harmless, I've taken a pill before and it affected me like Tylenol PM does. And coke is expensive in Manhattan, relative to the prices listed above. A gram goes for $100 up here, not that I've ever done it or bought it. I'm going to stay away because of what happened to Len Bias.
Xanax is an extremely helpful drug used to treat anxiety. It is also fun to take sometimes to chill out. Xanax is in a class of drugs known as benzodiazapines (sp?). The withdrawls from these drugs can KILL YOU. Even withdrawls from heroine just make you sick as fuck but don't kill you. As with anything, moderation is the key.
And along with that advice about Xanax, let me offer some more: Xanax + booze = BLACKOUT No matter what your tolerance level is, the combination of Xanax and alcohol is not something you'll be able to regulate with any certainty. One minute, you'll be enjoying a scotch and popping a little while pill. The next minute, you've poured beer all over yourself in a recreation of Flashdance and called a couple of bikers "a pretty little pair of leather-bound bitches".
Eh. I'm not sure that recreational use every couple of weeks will result in tolerance / addiction to the point that severe withdrawal becomes a problem. Although interestingly, suicidal behaviour / ideation is one of the symptoms of withdrawal. That said as drugs go, they're rather dangerous on account of causing respiratory depression if you take too much. Thalidomide was actually less dangerous than benzodiazepines, unless you were pregnant. Fun fact: As previously alluded to, benzodiazepines + alcohol are markedly more dangerous than a benzo alone. Because of a neat effect known as synergism. Long story short, it means that 1 unit of booze and 1 unit of xanax will hit you harder than 2 units of booze alone, or 2 units of xanax alone. It can go from drunkenness to loss of motor control to memory loss to respiratory depression. There's a reason these drugs are used for roofies and date rapes.
I wasn't inferring that recreational use alone will result in death causing withdrawals. Despite my chosen career I'm pretty much an advocate of being able to buy these drugs over the counter. I was mainly trying to make the point that most any prescription drug could be considered "harmless" as the previous poster suggested. But that being said I'm pretty sure benzo tolerance develops pretty rapidly (compared to other drugs). Basically for some people it could be a slippery slope. And yes yes yes I will second the point about synergism. Even more dangerous (and horrifyingly common in my area of the country amongst youth) is the mixing of opiates and benzos. Yay for not breathing!
I was going to submit a post about how I think pills are more dangerous than pot, but I just started getting pissed off at how in 2010 a plant is illegal and a synthetic chemical with no long-term studies is not. Not to mention the number of people who die from pills each year compared to the zero that have died from pot. The resources wasted, the billions in tax dollars wasted, give me a fucking break. I've lost a lot of respect for our government in recent years.
A couple of weeks ago three friends and myself decided to smoke a "hand rolled" cigarette behind our dorm and shoot the shit for awhile. Four cops staked us out for over a half hour (Bourbondown, could have been you) before finally circling and searching us (we consented, we were clean outside of what we had already smoked). The next night a female student was dragged through our quad and raped. If those four cops had been making normal rounds instead of looking for fucking smokers the girl could have been saved.
I agree. It is a bunch of shit. If it were up to me ballsack could buy his coke at CVS. Doing any drug has possible consequences be they physical or legal. I'm more a member of the "harm reduction" school.
My buddy who is a cop in Central MA sent me a funny text about some kids he pulled over last night. Their car reeked of weed and when he asked them about it the driver reached into the back seat an produced a large bag of it. The kid then proclaimed that it was alright though because it was only a pound so he could have it... right? "Hahahaha. No. It's an OUNCE son, not a pound. It's also not legal to have an ounce but it's only a misdemeanor for that amount." Central MA smokers need to bone up on their state drug laws. Unfortunately he refused to answer my question if it was good stuff or not and if any was available.
For the cops on the board, what's the SOP for pot possession? Can you turn a blind eye or are you supposed to prosecute no matter what?
Most of the dozen or so officers I'm friends (both State and local) will completely disregard an ounce or less now. There is still a bunch of paper work to be done and the petty fine it generates isn't worth it. Some of them won't even confiscate it unless it's apparent that it's being used in the car. However if you're an asshole when they pull you over they'll just tack it onto the other things they're writing you up for. My buddy JJ is a cop and lurks here... calling all JJ's.
Not a misdemeanor, violation. <a class="postlink" href="http://www.boston.com/news/local/breaking_news/2008/11/question_2_setu.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.boston.com/news/local/breaki ... _setu.html</a> They like to cover this with a corrupt term called "discretion". Or the blue wall of silence of course. Sorry really cranky tonight
Well, this thread had dropped off the board so I thought I'd revive it with a discussion of ritalin. I had an exam this afternoon that I hadn't done much study for, so at 7am I took 10mg of ritalin for the first time, washed down with a couple cups of coffee. Despite being the usual dose for kids half my size, 10mg may have been a little too much (I weigh about 70kg) because at the peak I found that I had trouble putting thoughts together (it was a math exam) and I was not confident in the work I was producing. That period lasted only about half an hour, the rest of the time I felt far more productive than usual. It lasted for hours too, I only noticed the come-down around 1pm after I ate something. Aside from that, I like the effects it had on my personality. I am normally shy and lacking a little in self confidence, but not today. An erowid experience notes that it is more of a useful drug than a party drug - but I'm not sure I agree. After my first experience I would recommend it to anyone who has difficulty 'being themselves' around new people. I used to take dex regularly ('diagnosed' ADD in high school) and they are similar - I haven't yet decided which is more useful for study. I'd love to hear any comments on this post from more experienced users and perhaps advice for future use (specifically experiences with alcohol combination?).
