My roommates gf is from Columbus and her best friend is currently dating Nash and I believe living with him. My roommate has hung out with him probably half a dozen times and has nothing but good things to say about him.

That being said, I've hung out with this gentleman a few times and he is pretty much a consummate shithead, but its also hilarious in the level that he truly gives no fucks. But good god is he talented. I think there is currently a warrant out on him for the rape of Backstrom...

Hockey is so alien to me. The jukes on the defensmen looked skillful. But, why doesn't the goalie just lay down those big shin pads down on the ice and use his body and hands to cover the rest. Why was he so "out of position" to cover the important part? Like, the goal.

I know I'm stupid here. What is the football equivalent of this play?

Why not just get the biggest fattest Sumo wrestler you can find and wedge his ass in the net?

Hockey is like soccer to me...the highlights are amazing, but I can't stick with a regular game/match.

So... a weird thing just happened to me. I was cooking eggs and the only butter I had left was still frozen. I took a fork to try to cut a piece of it while holding it in my hands. A piece of butter ''broke'' and I was pushing so hard on the fork it slipped and went an inch deep through my thumb. The thing wasn't even close to sharp or pointy, I'm still mystified at how it happened. It didn't hurt at all, I just felt it inside my flesh. I stared at it like an idiot for a good 10 seconds before taking it out. It bled a little, but right now, 15 minutes later, I barely even feel it.

Probably my weirdest injury so far. Also, I'm dumb and dangerous even with non-sharp objects.

Nets are pretty big, and pretty easy to score on with a terrible goalie.

And I'd say it's more like this:

Yea, but compared to hockey, the goal in soccer is huge.

Granted, soccer balls move slower than hockey pucks; but still.

One of my best friends is a former goalie, would have played Juniors if his parents weren't more concerned with him going to college straight away. That thought process makes him crazy. He was once talking to a beautiful girl at a bar who innocently asked a similar question and he removed himself from the conversation cause he was so exasperated. Yeah, he's a bit extreme in the hockey nerd department.

I think the biggest problem with hockey is that its a regional sport that has tried to grow beyond its natural borders. I get trying to grow the game, I get trying to expand the sport into non-traditional markets but there are some very basic problems with that. How is a person from Mississippi suppose to understand what its like to skate, or play hockey? How is a person from rural Florida suppose to support a sport they can't understand? Unlike football, basketball and baseball hockey requires some very specialized equipment and of course an ice rink. These things can be hard to come by and expensive, and quite frankly if you didn't grow up in an area where there's winter and hockey is a normal, why would anyone really care to invest into it?

As much as I love the game, it has its natural limitations.

I've seen that clip. It reminds me of this.

The first shot basically ended a career, and the second one in the end zone was against none other than Jack Tatum.

I thought maybe Nash was more like Sayers, Sanders, or Dorsett.

I remember seeing this in the early 90's. I nearly pissed myself. Randall Cunningham was a fucking ninja.

...probably in the same way up here how WE don't understand the thrill of crushing cars under a gigantic pick-up truck while people with two first names cheer for it (the truck, not the driver of).

I think it would be weird living somewhere they don't put up boards in the fields in parks in late fall and flood them once it's freezing out so there's a bunch of ice rinks all over town in the winter.

Then again I've lived in Minnesota since I was two years old... and it's the state of hockey.
