    My more simple tastes as an adult lead me toward the single color light, no tinsel. That being said, I have such a soft spot for the tree dressed up as a two bit whore, brightly colored lights, dripping in tinsel. It seems like that is how it is supposed to be before they became so over designed like the ones that you usually see now. And considering that your mom will likely be the one cleaning up the tinsel strands until June, I can say how your mom prefers it without.

    My personal taste is two-toned theme, no tinsel. Something along these lines:

    ...is classy and tasteful. Also, when decorating for the holidays, you don't have to make it look like Christmas came along and puked all over the house. A tree, a mantel, one or two other nods to the season, and that's it. Understated.

    That being said, my mother and your father would get along. She likes a tree that is dripping with tinsel, every colour of light on it, and everywhere throughout the house is Christmas crap. To each their own, I guess.

    Thanks all for the kind words. And sorry to everyone who has gone through cancer personally, or via a friend or family member.

    So I have spent most of my day restoring my computer to out of the box conditions. Because the fucker wouldn't even turn on. It has been quite frustrating.

    On a happier note. I got an early Christmas gift from the pops! A check for $500!

    It was difficult to root for Tom Brady. I find I do not like it at all. However, I was very happy to see Denver go down.

    Now Baltimore could get off their ass, and put the chargers away.

    Edit:

    Why in the hell is a head slap a penalty. Why don't they just start offenses on the 20 yard line. Let's just quit even pretending that the rules are not designed to hamstring the defense.

    Can't stand watching the NFL for this reason, it is out of hand, defense is so penalized for even thinking about actually PLAYING THE GAME. They don't even try and deny it, the rules are not clearly defined, one hit gets a flag and a hefty fine, the next hit doesn't? Fuck that noise, I'll pass.

    I think the white lights look better on larger houses. White lights go well if you hang garland too. I use flood lights on my house (green and red). No ladder, no hooks, now worries. They don't just light up, they "paint" the entire outside of the house with light. 10 minute set up.

    This might be the worst year for dictators in the history of, well, dictators. Dudes are falling like flies: Mubarak, Qaddafi, Jong-Il, Ben Ali (Tunisia), Saleh (Yemen). And the Syrian president hasn't exactly been sitting pretty.
