So...it has been over twice the amount of time it should've taken Ghetto to get back to my apartment... And he still isn't here. I guess he fell asleep on the train again but didn't have me to wake him up? At least, I hope he fell asleep on the train...

Why is that boy out all alone in NEW YAWK CITEH? What kind of a host are you? I'm imagining Randy Quaid in Kingpin. He's going to come back reeking of cigarettes, cheap scotch, and have a full back mural of a topless Chicana washing a lowrider tattooed on him.

You're going to have to call his mom to tell her you lost her gangly darling as he roams the big city jabbering broken French at prostitutes.

Don't get me wrong, I like them too. I admire the female form in all its variety and splendor. It's just I know the soft and squishy ones have a much shorter shelf life, so I gotta get that while I can.

The Swedish version - if you actually like the book - sucks pretty bad at adapting the book. My wife and I watched all 2.5 hours of it.

Let me explain. If you're expecting a story about how kick ass this scrawny Swedish chick is, then yes, it's a good movie.

If you're expecting a faithful adaptation of the book, you will be sorely disappointed. Despite the title, the book (and for purists like me who watched the movie based on the fact that I liked the book) is really a murder mystery. The Swedish version just glosses over that whole part of it. It sets it up, then has a bunch of shit with Lizbeth then 'oh hey, we found the murderer' and more Lizbeth shit. It's not that I thought the movie sucked, if you disassociate from the book.

I hope (but doubt) the Americanized version does a better job of telling the story - which is a version of 'Ten Little Indians' - not 'Enough.'

The American version is mostly faithful except for the following:

-Lisbeth never visits her mother in an asylum.
-The bizarre attraction to her boss at the security firm isn't mentioned.
-Mikael never has an affair with Cecilia, she's only mentioned once.
-Harriet isn't living in Australia, she's in London pretending to be her sister, which was a little stupid.

I've seen the Swedish triliogy, and they were all good films, but the second two seemed very different than Dragon Tattoo (though it seemed like a murder mystery to me). Sill, Noomi Rapace REALLY got the shaft by not getting an Oscar nom at least once. She truly deserved that, a utterly believable and fearless performance.

ghetto fell asleep on a train in NYC, and either got raped or mugged. We are still waiting to find out which.

Other than that, all the normal WDT goings-on.

    Added to that.

    Watched it last night.
Great movie, not 100% faithful to the novel, as mentioned, but overall, fairly good. Kind of dry...not a whole lot of emotional attachment to the characters, except Lisbeth, and even then, it's not really there. Mostly, the movie seemed to make the audience uncomfortable. I think they traded some "fucks" for more graphic BDSM scenes, and that kept it under the NC17 rating.

C'mon, man - you're not that stupid. You know the difference between a joke told with respect and a hateful remark masquerading as "not PC" or a child yelling "poopy pants" in order to get everyone to look at him.

It's possible the man has many redeeming qualities, is interesting and humorous and intelligent and filled with intellectual curiosity, wisdom and respect for his fellow man. It's possible that his fiance is actually Ayaan Hirsi Ali.*

Can I be taller in this scenario? I think it would be fun to be taller.

*See that? I tricked you into thinking about someone who actually matters. Happy New Year, y'all.

I didn't read the book, so there's no risk of disappointment on that level. Maybe we'll go see it in a theatre that allows blacks.

It took me an unhealthy amount of time to get home last night. I was way the fuck up at 86th street at three in the morning and the selection of trains just ain't what it could be. Also had to duck out of a train to go vomit into a trash can. But unlike in Munich, at least I made it to the trash can. Didn't make it back to Chez Monroe until after 4 am.

Somehow I didn't get mugged despite being a wreck. Go me.

Ha ha ha ha ha. Audrey left me a note next to the bed. "According to TiB, you should have been home 1.5 hours ago..."

Most people would have predicted that I was going to scare audrey monroe at some point, but I'll bet most people didn't expect that it would have been for this particular reason.
