    Squirrel hunting, anyone?

I hunted with two cousins on family land in Illinois and we had a good time. Lots of lead headaches.

Hiked back in to where I shot an elk at the beginning of december to see if I could find any bones, I did.
Thanks to the wild animals for cleaning it off, I now have a perfect skull.

Looks like some kind of wierd alien.

Send those tails to Mepps and get some free lures.

That was on my mind as I was dressing them. You can't have too many Mepps, especially in Minnesota.

One of my sponsees asked me to teach him fly fishing, so I said sure. His family owns a pretty decent amount of farmland in east Texas with a fair size pond on it so it'll be a good venue to get working on his casting. In return, he wants to take me hog hunting. This should be interesting. I've hunted rabbit, waterfowl and upland bird, but never feral pork and I have no clue how the hunt works. But I get to play with a big rifle and he said I'm guaranteed to shoot one.

What's involved in a hog hunt?

Gorgeous fish... plus a bonus shark too! Did you weigh it before devouring it on the boat (as I imagine you did)?

Almost forgot. Killed him on my birthday, December 18th.

I would normally let this size walk but I haven't killed a decent buck in 3 years... it was time.

This was the first time in 26 years that I hadn't gone hunting with my dad in November. Visited them for Christmas with the hopes of getting a couple bow hunting days in on a friend's farm, but dad had some health issues so it never happened.

So a big "FUCK YOU" to all you lucky bastards that got out this season... I'm jealous.

But have a Sturgeon day booked for Saturday, so that might help a bit.

We still have a month to hunt and it's just mid rut.

Going to check my camera this evening and see if that other big 8 is running around.

I had to hunt public land, so I may as well have not even hunted. And you're certainly a lucky bastard to go chase sturgeon. We can't fish for them here until April and between playoffs for rugby and the new kid, I'm probably not going to be able to get out and chase dinosaurs until September.

How long it take to track that guy?

I am heading out this weekend for Ohio's muzzleloader season. I should really use my mom's boyfriend's place out in Indiana more, they have a two week gun week and a two week muzzleloader week.

About 15 minutes. You're seeing the exit wound. He was quartering to me & I shot him in the front shoulder.

Yeah it looked like a gut shot. I swear most of the diagrams I have seen of deer's vitals never match up anywhere close when I've shot deer. I think I've had straight broad side shots every single time. This last one the shot hit much higher and further back than where they display the heart normally (right above the elbow). But it was a straight heart shot.

I adjusted for the angle and got both lungs. Completely missed the heart but a DL shot is good enough to get the job done. That 115 grain trophy bonded bear claw does a number on them.

    I love my 25-06.

it was a tough fish, took about 30 minutes, he was released unharmed to be caught another day.

So it's not gonna beat catching a Marlin (that is awesome Dewercs), but a highlight of my vacation time in Illinois was my girlfriend going out hunting for the first time and really enjoying it.

The first thing she said that morning was "I'm ready to kill something today!" and she meant it. Although she never shot any squirrels, she did have fun and would do it again. Really important too, she better understands why I love my time in da woods.
