This is a bit of a read but this is the report I wrote from my trip last week. <a class="postlink" href="http://www.bdoutdoors.com/forums/baja-mexico-fishing-reports-discussion/437966-tony-reyes-sea-cortez-deliver-again.html#post2749927" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.bdoutdoors.com/forums/baja-m ... ost2749927</a>
Huge picture. I went to Gatlinburg this past week and while there, I went fly fishing for the first time. I had a great time and will definitely look for more fly fishing while traveling. I fished all day and caught 4 trout (1 brown and 3 rainbow), but still had a really great time chasing the fish and hiking through the mountains.
Yellowfin tuna toughest fish in the ocean, got this guy on 20 pound test after getting my ass kicked for 75 minutes.
Here is another one, this one is 40ish, the first fish is 50-55 pounds, they were line shy sow we had to use lighter line. I had 13 fish this size and have more ahi than I know what to do with.
I caught this trout in NC in murky water with a big streamer. For those who trout fish, especially in tailwaters or larger streams, big fish eat other fish with few exceptions. We have been fishing out of a drift boat in AR with big articulated streamers. You may get a half dozen follows in a day of fishing, but the fish are 24" plus.
I don't always fish in cabo, but when I do I prefer to catch yellowfin. big fish for today, 50 and 75 pounds, going back again tomorrow. The bottom picture of the fish is a good one, it was gaffed 20 seconds before an absolutely beautiful fish.
We got skunked on Saturday and saw less than a dozen geese within calling distance, but no flocks. The river is way too low to boat on so we hunted a lake in southern MN instead and didn't have time to scout on Friday. There were already a bunch of mallards and bluewing teal hanging around already, but that season opens later in September. Spoiler It still beats the hell out of work. It sounds like plans for bear hunting with my brother and his buddy in a couple weeks are gonna work out and after that I'll be headed into the Boundary Waters for a long weekend trip during the last weekend of September. We'll be visiting lakes that were in the first part of the burn last year... should be interesting to see. Hopefully the pike are ready. September is shaping up to kick ass!
I caught nothing but northern pike this past weekend and can't really complain... it was still fun to reel in the 'lil snakes and on occasion a keeper sized fish would bite. The biggest one for our group was a short and fat 7 lb. pike, otherwise most we kept were in the delicious 3-4 lb. range. My biggest was 5 lbs. and I caught it with a #4 Mepps Black Fury trolling across a point into a shallow bay. This was one of the first times I really tried to fish with a technique (considering these lakes were much colder than when I'm used to fishing them) so I fished deeper in open water in the mornings and crept closer to shore as the temps increased through the day. I'd like to think it worked to my favor, but regardless we were catching fish and it was fun.
A point of contention for all you tree hugging dirty hippies has always been that assault weapons (ak-47 ar-15 etc) serve no sporting purpose other than to do real humane things like kill other humans in war. Because I care so deeply about your causes I will be using both an AR-15 and Ak-47 to save the enviroment this weekend by ridding Texas of as many feral hogs and I can shoot and then eat. So break out your petuli oil. You are welcome in advance.
I like to keep it sporting so I will only be using 30 round mags, the helicopter pilot bailed on us, something about having to clean up to many fucking shell casings, what a little bitch. Instead we will be dumping corn at known feeding sights at dusk and waiting for the pigs to come to feed, shining an amber light in their eyes and shooting them in the brain.
Just the other night I used an AR-15 to dispatch a Bambi-killing coyote who was sniffing around my garbage. It even has an ACOG* sight on it, so I was quite surprised when I pulled the trigger and the coyote died instead of a bunch of humans. Also, last week I used my cop-killer FNH 5.7 to get rid of a woodchuck that has been digging around the foundation of one of my buildings. Luckily, no law enforcement personnel were killed during this incident. *ACOG stands for Advanced Combat Optical Gunsight, so it definitely has only one purpose, which would be efficiently murdering children.
Looks tasty! How many total did you shoot? I had four fat does within 50 yards of my stand on Saturday evening but had a buck tag. I would have been very happy to put one in the freezer. Our group saw plenty of does but no bucks in sight.
I shot 2 while doing a spot and stalk hunt, we sat blinds at night but no love, we drove 30 hours to hunt 16 hours, it was worth it.
Man i'd love to go hogging. Is there any sort of regulation at all? No full auto near school zones maybe?
It is really very reasonably priced, 2 nights 5 meals, and 2 spot and stock hunts and up to 4 blind sit morning or night hunts for 300 bucks. They don't want you to carry over 3 round in your gun, and it can be any gun you want. You want a clean shot, if you spray bullets you wound animals and that is not really ethical. They may be a nuisance but you still want to make a good kill on anything, there is no need to make them suffer. That is the ranch owners call and I like it. You need to shoot enough gun though, they are tough animals.
