Prior to the Yellowfin we hooked into this 250 pound blue marlin but I decided I did not want a pic with it in the boat because he was mad and has a sword on his fucking face.
So do you have like 5 deep freezers or something? Man I wish I could have access to that amount of wild fish.
I swear the guy could have his own thread, if he wanted it. Like I told him in rep, seeing new posts by him is somewhat bittersweet... part of me is all "fuck yeah, new Dewercs content that's going to kick ass!" and the other part of me is "*sigh*... I'm so fucking jealous right now". Haven't had much time for fishing/hunting yet this year, so am living vicariously through him. Gladly.
I have one chest freezer 60 inches by 36 deep and 32 wide plus the freezer in my kitchen and the one in my spare fridge. We just got lucky today we were in the right place at the right time, we got 8 tuna 15 pounds a few at 40 pounds and the 160 I had the big one for dinner, sashimi and seared with yams and asparagus, one of the top ten meals of my life.
Get out there and kill something, it is fun. I am just lucky that I get to fish with a guy I fix reels for, he loves to fish and always welcomes me to come down to cabo and fish with him.
Yeah... easier said than done for the next couple of months. Between the new job and the new house, things are just way too busy right now. End of September has 2 weeks of offtime for me, and my folks are coming out to visit, so I'm hoping to take my Dad on another Sturgeon trip. It sucks being an adult.
Well I guess Ohio is finally allowing pistol cartridge rifles for deer season this year so Ill be out day and night with a rifle in my hand. So I got that to look forward to.
It really sucks. Finding land to hunt on isn't as much of an issue for me now as much as finding the time for it too. Everything is at least an hour and a half drive away too, which further sucks. PS Nice fish Dewercs! you lucky bastard! Nice... maybe a .44 mag then? I wish Minnesota would do the same with the southern half of the state. I want a reason to buy a lever-action.
Nice! What kind of rigs are you using to catch those yellowfin? How much meat do you get from a 100+ pound one like that?
We were using cedar plugs and live bait, also blue and white feathers we were running a 6 rig set up with 5 lures and one live bait. You have to find the porpoise and the Yellowfin are under them and you can see the tuna crashing on bait you run through them and it is game on. Here is a pic from the dock with my buddies boat crew. From a 100 pound tuna you get about 50 pounds of boneless filets, I took some to a Japanese place last night and they did it up for me 4 ways, including sashimi. Very good stuff, rocket fuel
And if you ever wondered where my signature line comes from, you can see the guy second from the left with his hat on backwards that has no blood on his shirt, that is one of the best Captains in Cabo San Lucas and that is why he does not have any blood on his shirt.
Another day of fishing today and marked one off my bucket list, this sailfish is 120 pounds which is huge for a sale fish, pretty quick fight till we got him to leader then my man Jorge who is 140 pounds on a good day goes for the grab and janks him on board for a quick shot then back in the water he went.
Very nice. Looks like it'd weigh a lot more than the tuna. This was my trophy from the lunch hour today, a big fighter. Spoiler Dropping flies right on top of these is too much fun. I am easily entertained.
They are pretty flat and they have a huge mouth so they look like they weigh more than they do, he was still hot when he came to the boat and smacked me in the chest when I let him go. Is that a red eared sunfish?
I think they're called pumpkinseed sunfish here. There's swarms upon swarms in the shallow water now.
I just got back from a trip to Branson, Mo on a family vacation and while the shows were fun to see (Shoji especially) the highlight of the trip was the fishing. Originally I wanted to wade and fly fish for the trout, but they released a lot of water from the dam on the day we were scheduled to go. We had to settle with a boat trip (crowded and a bit misled how many could fish from the boat). Overall, it was a much different type of fishing than I'm used to. The bite was really quick and soft which led to missing a lot of the fish. Coming from a redfish/speckled trout background, this was strange to us. Being able to see 10ft to the bottom and seeing 7-8 trout swimming next to a drop off was awesome. This was the only time in my life that I've been able to say that I caught to many big fish with the slot of 12-20" having to be released. At the end of the trip I hooked the fish on the top left and we were below the stream marker so that we could keep any size.
