You're not going to outsmart him with a have-a-heart trap unless you use that trap as a decoy. Those things suck and they're for stupid hippies that things have to die. Put a leg hold set along his trail. You can also try setting a 220 coni in a pit with the bait below it and see how that works, but don't get your hopes up. The phrase "sly as a fox" didn't come about because they're stupid.
I got outsmarted by a squirrel*. There's no way this dude outwits a fox. *In my defense, I thought I was only dealing with one squirrel and pulled my traps after I caught the supposed culprit. Imagine my surprise when my bird feeder was being raided less than 12 hours after Rocky#1 bit the dust. I finally decided to just pull the traps for good as the fiancee didn't seem to keen on having a freezer full of squirrel.
The future in-laws have a nice backyard outside city limits as well. I was thinking.... well, like I said, it was "for the purposes of anyone reading this thread NSFW that may be involved in law enforcement ." And if I do catch the fox, I'm going to take a picture of it to prove my dominance over nature. No other fancy traps, no fancy bait (except maybe a small animal I "find" dead), nothing other than a have-a-heart + free meal and some good product placement. I would take that $20 bet, but I've learned over the years not to bet on myself. We'll see how this goes.
Okay, this is for the archery people. Has anyone shot the Mathews Reezen 6.5 or the Mathews DXT? Can you compare the two, or possibly give me a review? I have already read a couple, but I would like some more feedback. I already know about the speed differences and the specs. I would like to know more about smoothness, noise, vibrations, etc. Any information would be highly appreciated, thanks!
Today was the first warm day of the season, wound up spending the entire day on the water. The trout were extremely aggressive today, I reckon the warm temperatures got them into the feeding mood. The two browns were ~18".
I don't know if this is real or not, but if so, it must be stopped immediately. <a class="postlink" href="http://sports.espn.go.com/outdoors/saltwater/news/story?id=4975762" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://sports.espn.go.com/outdoors/salt ... id=4975762</a>
Not sure who likes me at game and fish but I got drawn for antelope in arizona this year. They give 40 tags a year. No love on elk though so back to New Mexico.
Samr: 1 MOTHER FUCKING FOX: 0 In the fucking have-a-heart!!! Fuck ALL of you who doubted me. I am a hero.
My e-mail is acting up this morning, but I took two cell phone pictures that I should be able to put up shortly. And yes, in true redneck style, I kept the tail for good luck. Hanging from the (holder on the) American flag I have on the front porch.
Baited it with a can of "gourmet chicken" soft cat food, which I had to duct-tape to the cage because the fucking thing kept taking it out of the trap without setting it off. Yes, it was out in the open like that. To the right is about a 10-foot long shed, and my office door is about another 20 yards beyond that. When I sat down at the computer this morning I could literally hear it all pissed off in the cage outside; I had to wait until it was light out to see what it was. About another 50 yards to the left of that picture is a natural spring, that pools up in a pretty good size and I saw a lot of animal tracks going to it. Figured I'd toss it out and see what happened. I failed (well, caught raccoons) several times at another location, and today was only the second morning I had set it in that spot. It was also the first time I had tried the chicken bait, as I'd used liver, steak, and "mixed grill" soft cat food prior.
Nice work, way to stick with it. If you do not make a head dress out of the pelt and proudly wear it, it will be a travesty.
