Yeah, that's the same reasoning behind why I say to salt the tomatoes in a colander/cheesecloth. Same principle at work here. I just have a weird thing about cucumbers since I was a kid, so i very very rarely eat them.

I get it... you get one cucumber stuck up your ass as an explorative child, requiring a trip to the ER, and it scars you for life.

Don't worry dude... this is a safe space here.

Meh, it's a long weekend here in most of Canada... so some of us may be drinking.

What part of SAFE SPACE do you not understand? Don't you have a sea port to shut down or something?

Look, mom seemed to enjoy playing with the cucumbers, so why shouldn't I as well?

You used your mom's cucumbers? Is this still the gardening thread?

Y'all got me going on this.

I need to tweak my recipe but it was good and will be tried again.

3 days a week I drive by “the flower lady” on my way to taking Zoe to doggie daycare.

She has a huge field that she grows flowers in, and over the last 2 weeks her fields have exploded with colour.

This pic does not do it justice.

Saturday my mom and I picked up 4 dozen glads from her to take to the cemetery for decoration day.

Getting out of the car, you were almost knocked over by the glorious smell of flowers.

Finally had a fully ripened tomato that could be picked, and this thing was a monster. Also one of the meatiest tomatoes I've grown so far. Decided to keep it simple and make a BLT with some homemade bacon and added in some sliced mozz as well as some freshly made basil pesto that I just made over the weekend as well.

Spent some cash this morning on the Stihl Kombi system. It's battery powered, same as I use for my Stihl electric mower (1000% recommended), and other yard tools, but I really wanted 3 new tools that I didn't have; a cultivator for my garden beds, an edger, and a power brush.

The Kombi system seems to be the best way to pull that all off.

Just played with the power brush for the first time, and it's awesome... it cleaned off my ugly interlocking brick driveway incredibly well, and tomorrow I'm looking to knocking down my out-of-control raised garden beds and using the power cultivator on it.

It's pretty awesome so far. This last year was a write-off, lawn/garden maintenance wise due to my recent cardiac issues, but now that I'm feeling so much better, this should really help getting shit back in order and prepping next year's gardens.

I don't know about that system, but generally in those you can a rubber paddle wheel attachment that is absolutely great for getting the gravel off your yard after winter.

I have that one as well... looking to use it for minor snow removal in the winter, and relocating my white rock back into the beds from the grass.

But first I need to go take a nap.

I finally made my tomato sauce from scratch. I’ve been making it from paste and canned puree (plain, unspiced) for years, so I’ve got the flavors and spices down. But I’ve finally truly made sauce from scratch, using tomatoes and basil from our garden. It came out fantastic and I am incredibly happy that I finally did this.

Thanks to all of the kind folks here for gardening inspiration and tips.

This is the first year I actually got a luffa gourd going. They need a lot of sun and warmth, but I'm worried our season won't be long enough for anything to properly mature. It's kind of an experiment. If they are able to mature, I'll grow more next year. I'd like to have luffa sponges for use and projects.

I did not know those sponges came from a gourd.
