We only sell it as a young 4" potted starter plant. I took a quick look through my photos for an example pic, but didn't quickly see one. General tips though, grow it fairly cool and pinch regularly. Feed it well to encourage growth and expect to sow new batches every few weeks because unlike most of your herbs there is going to be a life to the plant. You'll only control it from bolting and going to flower for just so long and then it's going to become junk.

Like Frebis said, 2 should be plenty. I don't eat tomatoes myself but got my hands on these heirloom varieties so I'm growing them more for continued seed storage than anything right now.

Right if you are looking for the bunch you get at the store you just rip it up before it bolts and then replant for the next yield in a few weeks. Same goes with dill unless you’re looking to get the seeds.

good to know. Will be taking up my cilantro and using the pot for something else. Dill seeds will go.... I don't know where. Just easier to get them from the store (yes, even now).

Nerds, I agree that 2 is plenty.

Try a black cherry. They are delicious and don't mind the heat. Also, a Juliet. Juliet is a very heavy constant producer of small, delicious tomatoes as well.

When it gets hot, the bigger tomatoes will stall. Cherry and grape tomatoes will keep chugging along. Shake their cages once a day, get that pollen moving!

    GL whichever varieties you select!

I started doing Orange Zinger a couple years back. My kids flip for them and eat them by the handful all summer long. They have definitely become my favorite snacking tomato.

I don't have room for a garden at the post-divorce house but a couple of them in a 20" pot kicked out more tomatoes than they could stand to eat.

    Yep, 2 plants is plenty.

I've tried Juliet and agree that they are a great variety. I had great success last season with yellow pear as well.

Good call. Found some black cherry tomatoes on amazon for a few bucks, will be here monday; the description sounds cool! Didn't know those were a thing? We make a ton of salsa at the house so and I imagine those will work perfectly in it. My 5 year old and wife are a bit excited about them. I might even try a few as well.

    Thanks for the idea

I would be super cautious about buying seeds off Amazon, unless they are through a reputable seller like myseedneeds. Most of the seeds for sale are a scam.

Right now the only people able to ship within a reasonable time are the ones like them, burpee, etc. I have an in-law who spend decades working at a nursery so I just run everything by her first. She finally had enough of the "weed heads" a few years ago and packed up her things so she has nothing better to do than answer questions.

Does anybody order tomato plants online? I'd like to get some san marzano tomato plants and none of the nurseries around me sell them. Any website recommendations would be awesome.

better late than never! Seeds came in, finally was able to start them today except for the black cherry tomatoes which arrive on tuesday. Just to make it easy on me I did a row each, so I'm gonna have a lot more plants than I want or need, but I can always give some away or worst case I just have extra. So six each of: jalapeno, TAM jalapeno (jalapeno flavor minus the heat), anaheim pepper, ancho chilli, banana pepper, yellow bell, red bell, purple bell, cucumber (slicing size), pickling cucumber, red cherry tomato then I'm saving a row for black cherry tomato. Starting outside is: epazote, toothache plant, sage, marjoram, savory. Already growing is: strawberries, thyme, oregano, rosemary, mint. Saving to start in the fall: radish, dill, chervil. I'm sure I'll think of some others.

Basil died and I don't care to re-start because we don't really use it anyway. I'm taking up the cilantro today and using what grew, then using the pot for the epazote. Easier to get from the store than grow.

Wow! That’s nice! I’ve been buying potted basil from the grocery store until the garden center gets it in. But even outdoors mines never that nice looking.

I have a drip irrigation system like that but when I got it setup a lot of the nozzles acted worthless. Pressure kept pushing the small pipe off the water hose connector as well. How'd you setup yours?

I used high quality hose and assembled everything with a heat gun.

The cheap hose is shit and doesn’t work. I also used a lot of the blue water lines and connections for home purification systems.

ahhh, heat gun. There we go! I was thinking super glue but forgot about the heat gun. I have a good quality one I used for wiring all the lights on my UTV. Thing rarely gets used, but it’s damn near invaluable when it does

It’s tricky. You want to heat it enough to make it malleable so you can get it over the barbs, but too hot and it melts and leaks like crazy.

There are usually 3-4 I have to redo after a leak test.

    There’s the setup

    3AD096DA-DE5E-4CFC-9D52-D4DB6E9D8141.jpeg

should I run the grow lights at night to give it light 24-7 or give it some time as a break?

I only run the heat and lights from 7am to 8pm, personally.
