No, I'm not kidding. Yes, I know, they are supposedly a joke, but believe it or not, these motherfuckers could play, and play well. Reb Beach (the lead guitarist) is a monster. Rod Morgenstein is a phenomenal drummer. And yes, Kip Winger, for all the gay preening, is a damn fine bass player.
I may have mentioned Childish Gambino (Donald Glover) before, but his new album is fucking amazing. Here's a taste of the old free stuff. http://www.culdesac-album.com/ http://adventoutpost.com/2011/03/childi ... r-mixtape/ I'm a bit drunk to find the rest of the links, but trust, this guy is amazing. It's Troy from Community, and he's an amazing rapper. Plus, his new album, "Camp" is something I'm going to keep in my car's cd player for at least the next 3 months. From the new album: First one makes me want to fistpump, second one makes me want to crip-walk. Third one is just tasty.
Everybody has probably already heard these songs, but still worth mentioning for those of you living under a rock. Lana Del Ray
At the Drive-In is supposedly getting back together. This is fantastic news! http://www.altpress.com/news/entry/breaking_news_at_the_drive_in_to_reunite
Ben Kenney is most well known as the bassist for Incubus and the former guitarist for The Roots. He's also an amazing solo artist (he plays every instrument and self-produces all of his albums). If you have any interest, he's giving away all of his solo stuff for free at his website. I'd suggest starting at Maduro, but they're all great. http://www.benkenney.com/
So i found this: Which lead to this: And that was amazing, so I bought the album. This takes a listen or two to love, but I love it: Honestly, the whole album is fan-fucking-tastic.
I don't know what style you'd call these. Country? Folk? Whatever it is, it's awesome. Kind of reminds me of Matthew Santos' solo stuff. ^Holy hell, that guy is good.
My brother's punk band just released their first music video, check it out. Share it with your friends if you like it.
Not that I don't enjoy Gotye, but I hope I'm not the only one that's reminded of this: (I couldn't find an embeddable clip of Randy Marsh bouncing on his ballsack.)
I first saw this guy busking in Melbourne years ago; I made all my friends stop and listen, and bought his CD right then and there. There's something special about a Japese expatriate in Australia playing the blues, but he's not just a novelty, he's got the talent. It seems he's teamed up with a classically trained, sexy as hell Japanese musician since then and now they're pretty much Tarantino's sonically wet dream: I know taste in music is subjective and all, there's no right or wrong, but fuck anyone who can't get into that. He seems pretty happy busking between playing festivals and other small gigs, though they did play in 'Australia's Got Talent' (a bit of a misnomer), I would have watched it if I knew they were on it. And I love that the Japanese charity gig is called "Pray the Music." They got a sense of humour...
Not gonna lie, I love this song and video. I don't normally like this kind of music but I think will.i.am is sick. What is he doing with the Black Eyed Peas? I'll admit his lyrics can be a little retarded though.
I recently reconnected with an old friend over facebook. Her band is on tour right now and they're pretty damn good.
just discovered this dude the other day, his new album is exactly the type of hip-hop i like; jazzy, but well-lyrically versed.
